( lol ) Back when comedy wasn't emasculated by political correctness. Love how a man puts a woman in her place - you'll barely see that nowadays, it's usually the other way around, and not funny.
Heh, Curtin is so much a woman. For all her PC she looked in tears and seemed to like the verbal mouthing-off she got.
I got the itch to watch something of this vintage after watching tonight's rerun, hosted by Miley Cyrus, especially the "Weekend Update" segment with Seth Myers (featuring special guest, The Devil), and it makes me want to observe: This show debuted in the fall of 1975; The fact that it has been on continuously since then, with all of its ups and downs, is nothing short of miraculous in broadcasting history.
Ha ha, that's magnificent! And Dan did all of that in one go!
Remember that Blazing Saddles came out in 1974. Back then, you could get away with being edgy in comedy. It's tougher to be edgy today, but the crew does a fine job on The Daily Show.
I remember, as a kid, having to start adjusting the rabbit-ears on our television around 11:15, because our local NBC affiliate didn't carry SNL at first. It appeared live on a UHF station while the local NBC affiliate showed "McMillan & Wife" reruns or some such shit.
OMG that is so funny. for some reason i said this today and then i was like where is that from?? omg SNL.. then i looked it up seems like others thought of it as well. that is WILD and CRAZY!
I saw this one when it originally aired, and I laughed so hard at the time I was literally doubled over trying to catch my breath when he mentioned the part about Jane "sitting in your now darkened apartment, staring forlornly at your now useless vibrator."
I will confess, was against nuclear power at the time of this shows airing.........now after furthur review....it seems the most pragmatic approach for our energy needs with the least amount of enviromental damage and world upheaval. Still enjoy this SNL skit, real talent.
The good ol' days for me. This was the comedy team during my tweens/early teens. I am so happy I got to see the origional cast! Belushi, Radner, Curtain, Akroyd, etc.
Why (this is a serious question) does Jane Curtin have an EXTREMELY nasal, Chicago-style accent, when she grew up in New England? I like her in any case, but really, a Chicaaaaago aaaaackcent isn't so much funny as vaguely annoying. (I suppose in Toronto they have a similar accent, and that's why they say 'they're from Traaaaana".)
@StarWarsMoments - I watched the first season when it was aired, and it was hilarious. Sure some skits flopped, but that's the nature of live performance. On average they were the second funniest thing ever on TV (Python being first).
Wow, this was BOLD for TV in 1979...the "swine ass", "ignorant slut", and references to birth control pills and vibrators must have garnered a few FCC complaints at the time!
We've evolved since then. You need to either say "fuck" or show a boob for at least half a sec to get complaints!

In the thirty years since these guy were on SNL has gone steadily down hill. They started atop the Everest of comedy and now they are at the bottom of the Marianas trench with a shovel trying to get lower.
@sempercog Ok so I've been watching SNL for years now, and I see your point... I literally cried the last time I saw SNL know that this was the epitome of comedy, and remembering the 80's when I pissed my pants every Saturday first from the fact that it created new boundaries every episode, while simultaneously making witty and intelligible jokes.... its not the same....
OMG Lionel and I were just telling the boys about this Sat night episode and how we'd never seen anything like this on a TV show before.....we were hooked on Saturday night live for years!
LMAO!!! OMG, my dad used to love whenever this point-counterpoint came on. Jane you magnificently ignorant slut!! SNL back in the day was pure genius.

Love Jane Curtain!!! a real character!! I wish I could see her in more roles!!! She is so Real!! Love her in 3rd rock from the sun!!! and love her when she did a comedy in ...the 80s? I am becoming Alzeheminirkic...she was with a woman name Susan....who worked with ...Hudson.... please someone name it... I am old...
You're thinking of the show "Kate & Allie," with Jane Curtin and Susan Saint James (who previously starred in McMillan and Wife for several years). IIRC, it aired on CBS.
I HATED 3rd Rock From the Sun but have always liked everything else Jane has done. That 1970s SNL cast was a once-in-a-lifetime collection of talent & chemistry, and Jane was great. Do you remember those skits where she would interview Irwin Mainway (Dan Aykroyd), seller of dangerous toys for kids? *laugh*
