@multiplemugs When you see a rich man next to a poor man your only thought is that the rich man could only get rich by abusing the poor man. The rich man has no weapons or tools to control the poor man, but in your view he clearly couldn't be rich on his own merit. You think life is a zero sum game where someone must lose something for someone else to gain something. Truth be told your wrong. People trading with people produces more value than existed before. Societies become rich through work.
@multiplemugs Your philosophy is one of closed mindedness which mandates that people live in a fantasy world where everyone is abused and thinking/success are the most evil things people can do. I advocate that people live in the real world and use their brain to think and to realize exactly what is wrong with the world. In your view the US got rich at the hands of others which is unlikely, in my view the US got rich by innovative means and a culture that celebrates individuals.
@multiplemugs If people in the US strive for eliminating corruption and find more efficient ways to produce goods and make money which results in them becoming wealthy by the standards of the world I do not see the evil. Perhaps what you consider evil is anyone including countries being successful or more successful than others. Is the man that works for a living and earns everything he got somehow evil because another man choose to ignore reality and sit on the curb all day?
@multiplemugs I'm from Texas and I find life quite fine. I'd agree that with every stride the US takes to move away from Capitalism indeed conditions grow worse. The world has never scene the kind of move from impoverished to middle class and yet you sit there claiming we are all going to hell in a hand basket. If you can't look at the standard of living in the 1970's and compare it objectively to today then there is not much I can do for you.
@multiplemugs If only you could open your eyes and look at the world around you for one second and then take it all in. Maybe then you would notice your standard of living improving, the world moving towards peace, people becoming happier and happier everyday all because of their love of life. Her philosophy is only incoherent to those who refuse to open their mind and live in another world, the real world.
I like how these defenders of liberty applaud at the notion of a rich guy demanding a professor be fired because he disagrees with his elitist philosophy.
@Atombombmother If only you'd have read Atlas Shrugged you would understand just how ignorant your comment is. Would you listen to him if he was a poor man? What if you were richer than he was? Is it not true that at the bottom of your philosophy you look up to poor people? That you want and yearn for poverty? Please do tell me just what exactly is wrong with this "rich guy" giving a speech.
@thebestsumoeva how many questions are you going to ask me? My point is this: this room applauds the idea that a rich person has a right to ask for the resignation of a professor despite the fact that this man has NOT educated himself enough to warrant making such decisions, despite the fact that academia is only as free as it is from the censorhip of wealthy patrons such as Ed Snider, and that he ONLY wants his resignation because he disagrees with the professors philosophy.
@Atombombmother He was being direct and calling him out for his bad philosophy. The philosopher was not making objective claims into the philosophy of Ayn Rand and was indeed providing unfounded criticism which anyone who has read Ayn Rand's ideas can easily refute. As a professor he should at least understand the topic he is criticizing but like many today he criticizes what he doesn't understand. The room was applauding for a man stating a fact which so many over look these days.
Is there an update to the making of a movie? This video is nearly 3 years old and I haven't heard of any movie based on the book, but would love to see it done if it hasn't been.
@elements201 Ed Snider's retort to this professor is an example of what needs to be said to liberals - "in your face " comments like Mr. Snider's that pull no punches or follow the Republican Party rhetoric of wishy-washy compromise with socialism-communism.
I had a dream-- I went to the Federal reserve and was escorted to a top floor office, where Alan Greenspan, Nathanial Branden and Ayn Rand were playing Texas Hold'em with George Bush, Sr and Hillary, as Henry Kissinger and Hank Greenberg smoked Cubans in the corner.
Geraldo was having sex with Jacob Javitz wife, as he laid dying.
It was a strange party, and Ayn Rand didn't car who came.
I am curious to know what exactly it is that you think Objectivists don't "get"? Have you read any of Ayn Rand's books? With which specific tenets of her philosophy do you disagree?
hshahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahhahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahhaahahahahahahahoh my god i almost thought i was in the book what a perfect example of the society in the book and our society

There goes the "fascism" argument he was offering that Rand wasn't one. He shot himself in the foot.

@multiplemugs I agree - she was hateful, nasty, and disgusting.
Now: tell us what capitalism really is.

Well said. AR lived in an extreme Russia, came to America and adopted a counter Utopian extreme.
The film has been written as a love story, the producer's knowing full well, a philosophical film would have low appeal.
