  • It's a supraventricular tachycardia, why did the video shows cardioversion as a treatment? Synchronized carvioversion should be used during Ventricular Tachycardia when patient is unstable or refractory to medicine. SVT should be started with carotid massage if not contraindicated followed by adenosine, can anyone tell me why cardioverted straight away ?

  • I had an episode of Atrial Flutter which lasted 20 hours. They gave me adenosine, which is a real trip, because it causes transient asystole, which means your heart ceases to beat for a very short amount of time. For 3-5 seconds (which felt like an eternity to me) You feel like your going to die... The adenosine didn't work, and they had to do the cardioversion... Anyway I strongly urge anyone with SVT to seek an ablation, it's usually not painful, and has a very high success rate...

  • i dont know anyone in my family who has a arithimia. i hope anyone with any kind of heart condition can find a cure. eventually as the world progresses and science finds new ways around medicine and treatments, there will be a permanent cure for any heart problem. my heart goes out to the scientists and doctors around the world who are helping make lives better and cures come our way.

  • this happened to me today. my heart was racing for about 30 min and then I went to the hospital and my heart was at 197. They had to stop my heart with some medicine and let it start again. I'm 21 and actually already had heart disease but this was a first, and it was scary.

  • Hi, I'm 23 and 3 days ago, my heartbeats beat 226 bpm while during cardio. It lasted about 10 second and I nearly passed out. I though my watch was out of order but I tried today with another one. Same thing. My doctor thinks I have SV-Tachycardia. It really scares the hell out of me. If I really have this, I'll definitely get the OP.

  • but still i didn't go to doctor because it was sometimes that it was showing this symptom but now i will go

  • i have tachycardia... first time when it happen to beat to fast and loud it it was when i was 12 years old i think... and now i am 17 and still had it.. but it make sometimes some years it was stopped and now it started again at 16-17

  • Hello .. I have 16 years .. My heart goes to 240 beats per minute when I get these tachycardias usually me to bend down .. ... I've done electrocardiogram and echocardiogram ... I made up for it ... at the time of tachycardia does not give me time to get to the doctor .. is it serious this tachycardia? I have been given at least 15 times

  • I've read many of the very moving comments posted here, and for those of you who are struggling with SVT, my best wishes are with you. Please know that there are many promising treatments in the research pipeline, and that within your lifetime (maybe no so far into the future), we will have a whole range of new treatments. So please hold on and remain positive! The future may be very bright for you.

  • im 14 years old and i have PSVT i was diagnosed with it about 3 months ago after going to the ER with a heart rate if about 230 BPM; it was my 5th episode they just couldnt catch it before. They treated me with adenosine and my heart felt like it stopped. i am still awaiting my ablation catheter treatment and hope to get past this soon

  • I have SVT & I just had an episode a bit over 2 weeks ago & then another one 2 nights ago, there hopefully going to speed up my appointment with a cardiologist. I have to take these stupid pills that I hate, there saying I probably cant die from it but when its happening I"M not so sure, i hate it

  • @jameslewis82 i feel the exact same way! i have svt and just got diagnosed in feb 2010 and since then have had adrenaline studies, thyroid checked multiple time, normal eccos and chest x-rays... now im on tambocor 100 mg twice a day and bystolic b/c my BP became erratic and would shoot up dangerously high. taking so many pills every day sucks. i wish there was some easy fix.

  • @usmcwifey9609 and they also tell me that ablation is out of the question b/c its being treated fairly well with meds but i hate the fact that i might have to take it for the rest of my life. they cant really tell me for sure what the future hold, and im only 20. and they said the ablation would more than likely require a pacemaker b/c of where the electrical pathway is located that they would be ablating. :/

  • i had an ablation done. it didnt do anything for me. i cant figure out why. i had that surgery almost 3 years ago, and i still have these episodes

  • @YMBrant me 2 im 19 now and ive had 2 oblations since 08' now its worse, ihave(episode)all the time cant even have any fun..damn heart conditions.sucks for all these ppl.it really hurts:(

  • @NoodleSalad101 ablation using heat to kill the nerve is detrimental to your heart. If they froze it,then its ok.Hope yours was frozen.

  • i had this hapen to me my heart was racing 230 perminut my hnds got num and it felt like i was shuting down i got verry week i had the convershion th medication t times they gave me an iv and heart drugs but the had to stop my heart 2 times

  • ok.. so I almost went into an Arrhythmia just watching that!!! Brings back bad memories.

  • Oh good God Almighty they did that to me?! My rate was nearly 300, it wasn't even beating so much as vibrating. I've been watching other vids today, too, of real patients getting defibbed (not TV shows). Kind of wish I hadn't, but thank you Lord for EMTs, doctors, and technology used the right way!

  • Nice Video!

Just a question please, how do you shock the patient (unless it's a demo of the unit) whit the paddels still in their place in the Lifepak 10?

  • When i was sleeping or getting ready to sleep face down, i would awake in the middle of the night and my heart would be beating very fast and it seemed as though the breath had been knocked right out of me. Other times i would be playing soccer or exercising and my heart would be beating out of my chest and I would feel faint. I would also be at the club and due to the loud music, my heart would start racing and I would feel the same symptoms. Would ablation cure this?

  • Correction from last post. I TAKE ATENOLOL TO KEEP MY HEART "FROM" GOING SO DAMN FAST.

  • My heart takes off from time to time and I have been told it's due to undue stress. I take small doses of Xanax...0.5mg sometimes up to 1.0mg per day and Atenolol to keep my heart going so damn fast. I had no idea that fear can release adrenaline while you're sitting there watching Jay Leno on tv and your heart goes super fast. These are called panic attacks for me. I was looking up fast heartbeats and I found this video. I hope I don't have this shit. I've been tested b4 and they said I am ok.

  • I had a Catheter Albation to treat this in 2005. Get it. It was painless and I'm cured.

  • I've had the Catheter Ablation 3 times and the Cryoablation once and I still suffer from it, i have to take verapamil hydrochloride once daily it still sucks ass tho

  • i had this, i treated it with an ablation and now i'm cured. It's an easy process i didn't feel a thing. i was just sore in the groin area a day afterward, and all was well. i suggest the ablation, it saved me years of treating this with medicine.

    God bless..

  • @DaBeastinAzn i have been experiencing this for two and a half years now and it scares the shit of of me . what does a ablation involve ? and how long did it take ?

  • @allangee1873 I am having clusters of the premature beating that triggers the SVT. I understand that ablation is like a catheter and they burn the area involved with the electrical impulses. I still have to have tests to see what it is exactly. I would prefer meds over the ablation in some ways. However, abaltion is supposed to be an effective way. Hope all works out well for us both! It is a terrible feeling.

  • im scared now cuz i get these at least 10 times a day regularly

  • Hi guys i was reading your comments and i am an EMT-B student and was just wondering what is all the burning and medications and this procedure i guess thats what its called adenosine i never even heard of it in my protocols i have to defibulate this pateint and ventalate this patient as well let know thanks

  • im 12 and am going to get the ablation in january. when i get an episode of svt my hr goes to 250+.

  • I was told I was having panic attacks for two years. I wonder how many people go through thinking they are having panic attacks when they really have svt.

  • I was told that aas well. People thought that I am hysterical and that nothing happens to me and after a very big, long attack I was diagnosed SVT. I understand you, it is sometimes difficult to persuade people that you are not feeling good, especially wneh you are young...

  • I was told the same thing too and started to believe that I had serious mental health problems.

When I got to the hospital for the first time the doctor was sure that I was on cocaine lol. It took several trips to the emergency room before someone realized I had SVT. I Had the ablation done 6 months ago :)

  • Thanks, its nice to know I'm not the only one who thought they lost their mind. Know its hard for me to believe I'm not crazy lol.

  • i am 23 and had the ablation 3 times this year. and now i still need to take meds cause it didn't work at all. i cried during operation cause they didn't let me sleep to get all tachycardia and it hurt so bad. they burned about 15 times.first time was 4hours (6burns), second time 5hours(also 6burns) and this time (4days ago) almonst 6 hours. when they told me that i have to take the meds my whole life i was so shocked that i started crying again. i tried it for 3 times and its still coming back

  • I had an ablation to cure my SVT about 2 years ago. The doctors said that my SVT was cured, but in about 18 months after de ablation the episodes of tachycardia went back. Now Im under a lot of new exams, and possibly will need another ablation =/ (sorry for my horrible english =P)

  • its SVT ... not STV

  • Oh God. I hate STV. Especially when the emergency room nurses tell me I won't be seen any faster if I keep coughing and blowing on my thumb! The idiots don't know I'm trying to stop it! Also, I had a digital bp cuff, showed them hr was 180, they said I would have to wait a while to get my vitals checked! 45 min later they check and hr is 180. Idiots are gonna kill me one day.

  • Wow man they are crazy! I must have been rushed about 10 times to the emergency in the past two years with a heart rate around 200. Every single time the staff treated my case very seriously and a doctor showed up in the first 5 minutes each time. I know it's the worst feeling in the world. It might not be that dangerous but god it is scary!!! It's been 3 months now since I've had the ablation and I'm in great shape :D Just do it man, it will change your life for the best!!

    Marty

  • et dire qu'avant mon coeur battait comme ça tout le temps en pleine journée ... depuis je suis suivie

  • I just got through having episodes about once a week for 3 or 4o months D:

I also have another heart problem o.o

They havent been really bad since the 6th grade though :)

  • I also had an ablation 5 days ago after another episode where my heart rate stayed at 200 over 3 hours...it was so stressfull. I can live a normal life again I'm sooooooooooooo happpy :D

  • wow 3 hours really !

usually for me after a while my body will stop it by making me throw up but i think it does it in less then three hours

    you're strong!! :D

  • This happened to me a week ago--my heart suddenly started racing and I felt dizzy, tired and weak. I thought I was having a heart attack. My heart rate was 240 bpm. They gave me adenosine 6. After a few seconds my heart felt very strange and I told them I was going to pass out. Then after a few more seconds my heart started again at 120 bpm, and I started feeling much better almost immediately. This was the first time it had happened. I'm 55, and it just happened out of the blue.

  • Adenosine feels sooo gross. It's like going down 20 floors in an elevator in 1 second. I received adenosine twice but it never worked...even with triple dozes. That medication scared me more than SVT itself lol

  • @melykin I've had the adenosine too. The first few doses didn't work, and finally the higher dose did. It was crazy intense! It felt like I was having the wind knocked out of me, I couldn't breathe at all for about 5-10 seconds. And then POOF! My heart rate dropped dramatically into the normal range and out of the SVT. Adenosine is a crazy/amazing drug! Quite a rush to say the least.

  • @jeffn411 yeah it is!but i love that stuff!only cuz it makes me feel sooo much better:)

  • @melykin hey i have had the same thing, im 20 y/o. i had to get an ecg and get pumped with adenosine 2 times. my heartrate was 200 bpm. im going in for a day procedure called ablation. scary stuff eh! terrible feeling

  • I have SVT and my heart rate got up to 218 beats per minute.

  • My record was 235 at the Gym. It happened just after finishing a heavy set of leg presses...needless to say I was scared to death, just like the owner of the gym haha

  • i was deadlifting 135 and it happened to me, my doctor said i could go back to weightlifting but im not sure because im afraid this will happen to me again. think i should chance it?

  • I feel you man. Personally, SVT attacks could strike at any given moment..it didn't matter what I was doing. I've had attacks when answering my emails, picking up something on the floor or physical activities. But I remember when I was working out sometimes my heart rate would go up around 180 when doing bicep curls which I tought was ridiculous. It was not an attack but my heart was pumping way to fast for the effort required. So I stopped going to the gym b/c I couldn't complete a full workout.

  • @Parizeau21

I feel the very same way, when I bend over to pick something up or to catch my breathe from a game of ball it happens. It happens at any given moment for me as well no matter what I am doing. Ive done bicep curls and my heart was pumping really hard and fast but it wasnt an attack like you said...It sucks ive been living like this for 5 years and im only 18...

  • @UnaFatsaUnaRasta22 you know this tachycardia is not all fun when it happens

  • It's been 6 months since I've had the ablation and I'm doing great working out 4-5 times/week. When I do back or leg exercises my heart rate still go up to 180 after a couple sets but it drops down quickly.

    Hope that helped

  • Your condition is not life threatening, that's what you have to understand. At least that's what my cardiologist told me. But I saw no point in going to gym and being scared all the time. Maybe you are stronger than I was :)

  • good job on the cardioversion... i have SVT...my heart has gone up to 200 one time.....its really scary when it happens

  • i have gone to the hospital 3 times for this but they used meds in a IV that did the same thing after two time like in the video my heart reset to normal..(highest beat around 220)...I now take toporol every day to prevent it from happening again. But I still have small Arrhythmias all the time.

  • I get this, once my heart beats 247 times per minute. but now, if i have this ,it beats 180, like on this video!

  • I have This, i got diagnosed with it at aged 2, with WPW on the side..

my heart rate goes up to 250 bpm, makes you feel terrible! :|

    xxxx

  • I just had an ablation four days ago for my tachycardia.

Wish I hadn't waited as long as I did, the procedure was a piece of cake!

  • do they induce SVT before the ablation to map the source of the problem in the heart? How does this feel?

  • yes, they have to induce it, and all you feel is your heart racing. It's not at all bothersome and it's very fleeting.

  • In my case I was so stoned that I barely felt anything in my chest when they burned. The burned in two spots and the operation took 3 hours but it felt like 30 minutes. I remember waking up saying ''That's it doc?'' and he said 'Yep'

One of the happiest days of my life.

  • SVT is NOT fun i've had it since i was 6. when you get the fast heart rate it feels like your heart is going to explode and it cant be painful

and yes if they do surgery on the problem they induce the fast heart rate then move catheders around in the heart to try to find the extra pathway which they need to scar by heating it or freezing it

i had the surgery last year and it was unsuccessful :(

  • XoNicolemoX, sorry to hear. I am 48 yo, SVT started Jan2008 - 1.5y ago. Episodes were regular - once a month which amazing in itself. Could be stopped with Valsalva maneuvers but later on became resistant and frequent. Started metoprolol which controlled it for 6 mths then broke through despite increased dose. I am scheduled for heart mapping Oct2009 - in Canada there is a wait .I am curious what to expect. Believe success rate of ablation is95%. Yours was ineffective or became worse?Good luck.

  • im 15 now so ive had for 8 years and i got put on a drug after a whbile to stop it. they took me off of them when i was 13 and i had another e2 episode one a week then they got me back pills

and yeah i had a 4 month wait and yes there is a 95% chance it will work but mine wanst sucessful because they couldnt keep me in the teychardia. all the problems ive had since is a skipping heart they said the cathieders probably `scared it away` don;t worry it should work :)

  • the death chance is less then 1 % so you dont have to worry about that aha

iwas under surgery for six hours because they couldnt keep me in the teychardia

but ive gone almost two years without an episode so its all good :)

just watch for skippiong heart beats

trust me youll know what it is caz it feels like your gonna have an episode

if your experience this contact your cardioligist

    good luck !

  • Really, I hear it was about a 97% success rate from my cardiologist today?

  • mine was about 95% due to the technology

but unfortunately i was the 3 to 5 percent that didnt get it done

i have a telephone monitor being put on it about a month for side effects

  • i was diagnosed with this condition but the highest rate my heart has reached was like 160 or something but if i run or exercise it can easily go to 190-195

  • Dont ever let it get that high ever.

  • Watching this never gets old, its always creepy seeing someone go into asystole for a few seconds!

  • i have been treated for this lol its scary

  • is that little beep supposed to be the heart?

  • That's right. if you look at the number on the top left of the monitor, that's the patient's heart rate, notice how it's at 182 beats per minute, and a normal normal rate is supposed to be around 60-80 beats per minute. This isn't an uncommon rate for an SVT though, as I understand it. He eventually gets it back down to 66 with the second cardioversion, right where it should be.

  • Good Video

  • Thank you.
