The bar is not cheating, it is there to assist with balance, but, if you have someone like me who lacks good balance, then I could use the bar and look like a pro, even though I am really not. Of those that I've sparred in the past year, no one has foot movement quite so fast, and I attribute this directly to Dance Dance Revolution. Real dancing is fine as an art, but unless you're doing hip hop, breaking, or some avant garde thing, the focus isn't on how fast you can do it.
You people may think that playing this game is "gay," but at least you can lose weight from playing it, considering its cardio-oriented. I've seen some pretty fat people hop up on this thing and go at it like crazy. And they've lost weight too! I think the majority of American's need to get their heavy asses on a DDR machine. To all the people who diss players who don't use the bar, go back and play 3rd mix and tell me you need a bar for any of it, and you'll be laughed at. If you started on 3rd mix and worked your way up to max, you'd be able to do everything without the bar. I used to play Demon Road when max2 first came out and usually would combo up to maxx unlimited or the freeze in unlimited WITHOUT USING THE BAR AT ALL! Back in the day you would get laughed at for using the bar, nowadays its backwards.

First thing. If using the bar is what makes the game better or more fun for you then that's great. But you can't call someone "the best in the world" if they use the bar. Because it makes the game easier. You can't deny that.
I use the bar mid-song if I'm about to throw up from being winded. I'm not exactly in shape and I like playing more fatiguing songs since they're the best songs.
Using the bar like using the C-Stick in smash bros. It's meant to make gameplay easier. It's as simple as that. AAA'ing a song without the bar is more difficult, some people enjoy a harder challenge, some people want as high a score as possible. Saying whoever is better is comparing apples and oranges, and shouldn't be done. No need for arguing.
