@ThatNutGuy L1 is for the more powerful shot (keep in mind: It's just the particular assignment of the keys for free kicks). In this case of free kicks the curve comes from moving the left stick into the respective direction. Without moving the left stick you will fail, without L1 you might have not enough power for the curve. Apart from free kicks you're right, R1 is for cut balls

@bulamatadi01 Well, when I press L1 the shot never takes off, it sticks to the ground. True it seems more powerful but it rolls on the ground, but maybe I'm doing something wrong even though I stick to the instructions.

@ThatNutGuy It works, but only with the right players with about or even more than 80 CRV and with the right timing and duration of pressing L1 and B or circle button. When the power bar is filled up sufficiently, just release both of'em but still hold the left stick till the end of the shot. Sometimes you will score, sometimes you will just miss the goal. But it looks astonishing when it will have worked the very first time :-) Keep on practising!

@bulamatadi01 Yea I do, thank you for the instructions, so if I get it right, I need to press L1 and O in the same time until I fill the power bar sufficiently then release L1 right after I released O, but I keep the analog in the curve direction. And of course need high curve effect player. I'll practice this out and with of course a bit of luck might score. Thank you very much.

@ThatNutGuy Almost, but release L1 and O simultaneously. And yes keep the stick in the direction, where you want the ball to go. You will score, because I scored too, and I am really not what one would call a skilled FIFA gamer :-P
