haven't checked it with you for awhile but I heard you saying gear driven or bearing driven, have you thought about a belt driven system yet? motor in base under the ramp, the bottom of the gate rides on bearings, belt could be arched over the gate so the base would be open where the bearing are, if sturdy enough the torque shouldn't be a problem, just a thought' hope it helps
Awesome project man. I have been thinking of building something similar to this but alot more simpler. The main gimick I was thinking of having was putting a iris diaphragm onto it (or in it some how) to have the whole "Close the iris!" effect.
