What vst are you using for the drums? Perfect set up!!! I use a trigger finger now but i don't think its as efficient as how you have it set up, way easier to do fills!

Why don't you try creating your own drum map for midi so it makes it easier for you to play certain things :P? like placing three kicks on three close keys to make triplets easier or placing two of the same toms on two keys beside each other :O?

@chimpspanner Yo ApeWrench, what you're doing would probably work fine with any lower-end roland, and I'm pretty sure Roland/Alesis both have a MIDI only module, which could save you some money :P
