  • "front seat stained with love

a back seat full of bibles, purloined from the drawers of lost motels"

That part always sends a chill up my spine.

  • so stoked they are coming to my home state for two nights:) now to go to night one or night 2? anyone ever been to a live performance? i am going for sure, ugh just cant make up my mind whether to go night one, tow or both;) also probably the best songwriter since song existed on earth;)

  • Its so hard to give the creepy credence with a voice and music like that

  • love it magnetic fields is the best.

  • Excelenteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • Ho... i love this song! But... i am french, so there are parts i don't understand.

in fact, all the last part!

    "Down Route 66

You pilfered love and green stamps

W.C. Fields with Mae West in your eyes"

    and

"But you've got a vice to rest your head in"

I understand the words, but what does it mean? O.o

  • @BlumeShullman Route 66 is a famous road here in America. It existed before we had the interstate systems that made travel faster, but took away the character of traveling, all the little towns, sights, etc. My take on the next line is this....she took and disposed of love just as she put a tab of acid on her tongue and let it dissolve...but I could be wrong.

  • @BlumeShullman W.C Fields and Mae West were rogues in our history, wiki them? A vice to rest your head in......a vice (which I'm sure you know) being a torture device, meaning, i think, she has the ability to destroy herself.

  • @PureAmbition33 thank you for the time you took to explain it to me.

  • @BlumeShullman Resting your head in a vice is ironic - resting your head in a clamp or a squeezing device... also vice has a double meaning for "a sin"

Green Stamps were a common item in the 50s to the 70s in the USA. They were stamps you git at some stores with your purchase. Collect enough and you could cash them in for cheap junk in a green stamp store - The line equates love with a coupon redeemable for something cheap and useless.

  • one of my favorite songs by them
