As a Freddie King fan, I can say he did ab amazingly poor job of playing this beautiful song.
In 50 years, Clapton NEVER has come close to playing this Freddie King song as well as Peter Greene did. Peter Greene was as melodic as George Harrison at his best. Here is his version recorded around around 1965 with John Mayall:
