I love Katherine. She's been through so much, anyone would be messed up. She had to give up her child right away, her own family banished her, she fell for Klaus who tried to sacrifice her, so she became selfish for survival & distrusting. She killed herself for safety, and she came home from running to her DEAD family. Then, years later she sees she's been replaced by Elena to Stefan, one of the few people she actually began to care for. Yes, she's a bitch, but who wouldn't be after all that?
How someone remains sweet, kind and selfless after going through shit like this? No one can be who they used to be after having their baby taken away and having their entire family slaughtered brutally. Heartwrenching, seeing how losing people you love changes you so much.
If you had so many painful experiences you'd probably be like her. She's been through so much pain- she lost her child and found all her family murdered... It's not weird that she's become so empty inside so soulless. Everything has a cause.

She can't be so perfect all the time, the writers need to have her make huge mistakes, like Stefan and Damon do. it's the same as in Twilight. 2 guys fighting over a girl who just sits and does pretty much nothing. Although TVD is ten times more awesome than Twilight.
