K H Schwerin puts the population at 80 million for Latin America alone.

Talking about what happened in 1795 has no bearing on today- I am British and live in one of our former colonies Australia and I have no pride when I hear of some of the inhumane things the colonial government did to the Aboriginies in the past.

Technologically advanced cultures have exerted their influence over less advanced cultures through history.
The issue with Islam is that it is a prescription for morality that is considered timeless by those who engage in it. It uniquely refuses to negotiate away from stone age ethics and practices in favor of evolved ethics, understandings or cumulative social wisdom.
The UK on the other hand has done so. You will also notice that former British colonies are civilized and usually democratic.
