A fascinating and extremely well put together documentary which complements the earlier 1997 TV doc 'The Beach Boys & Satan'. The simple fact is you cannot tell the story of Manson without including Dennis Wilson or Terry Melcher in it. The degree & strength of the connection between these people depends on who is telling the story. From one perspective these two guys are in many ways the oblique triggers for the slayings & from another, simply unfortunate "extras" in a real-life horror fiick..
Totally agree w/ your perspective on their character. I also believe both of them reinforce their own doom. They want something but put barriers up for themselves that results in failure. They're their own worst enemies.
@jackamo23 In many ways i feel that a person is being naive when they say that there's no Satanism or spiritualism in a music form specially Rock n roll...I mean im a Rock n roll lover and always will be but i dont deny the fact of that kind of magic around it i mean you can clearily listen and pay atention to that in even todays music and lyrics i even give you a very good example (not recent but still i pretty good one) how come in the Sgt.Pepper's album there's a picture of Aleister Crowley?
Excellent archival footage, but much of the Beach Boys material is taken wayyyy out of context. For example, some of the inferences that are made regarding either Charles Manson or Dennis Wilson were actually quotes about Brian Wilson and his eccentric behavior.
That's a sign that this filmmaker apparently doesn't let the facts get in the way of the story he wants to tell. Which is a shame because the real story is more fascinating than the fiction this film is trying to peddle.
@collette327 I agree with you. I'm from this era. The archival footage of this entire endeavor is worth a watch as long as the watcher isn't fooled by the "facts" regarding the Wilson brothers. Most of the issues, like not being able to get out of bed, and heavy heavy drug use was Brian not Dennis. But Brian was very troubled and a psychologist Brian was seeing screwed him up even further. That aside, getting involved w/Manson & Crew had to give them all the heebie geebies.
@collette327 Having spoken to many involved, they approved of these very re-appropriations saying that, "he did say that about his brother..." "he would say that about Manson."
Hey! Thanks for watching and discussing the film. I understand that a few interviews have been taken out of context, but this is for the sake of telling a story that has very little visual and audio material supporting it. This is due to the fact that these materials were either destroyed after the fact along w/ many parties involved being afraid or too ashamed to speak about these very events
I/we hear and read (especially on Y/Tube) all these people saying..."If it had been anybody other than a movie actress, we would'nt be talking about Manson today..." Well, if these "songs" were written by anybody besides Charles Manson, musicians famous, as well as struggling would not be falling over each other to cover them! Call me whatever you want, but anyone who covers a Manson song is basicilly approving of the murders of ? number of people.
Looking at the Cielo Drive area in 1969 and now one can see how over-developed LA has become. The quality if life there is so bad many of the movie people don't want to live there anymore.
@Mozart1220 no manson had nothing to do with pacific ocean blue he was in prison already I know a guy that was a director on the tom snyder show that went there to interview him he didnt like it
@spacepatrolman The song Cease to Exist IS Manson, I have a CD of his demo made in Brian Wilson's studio. The song "Cease to Exist" was changed to "Never Learn Not to Love" on the 20/20 album. Manson was furious his song was altered. He even gets a writer's credit. The video even says Cease to exist is "written and performed by Caharles Manson".
@spacepatrolman i used to know a guy that was a director on the tom snyder show they went to interview manson in prison he didnt like it when they went to james cagneys farm later carl wilson was on the tom snyder show

Dennis was the most genuine of the group. And the other BB do not belong in this documentary.

This entertwines the Beach Boys too much into Manson. It was Dennis - and Dennis only - who made that error.
