umm...I don't like this. the charm of the original was the fact that the sisters weren't perfect singers/performers, but that they were innocents discovering the world of music for the first time, coupled with the fact that they were nuns: charitable individuals with a passion for people; and THAT'S what made them perfect performers, not choreographed metallic showchoir tunes! the energy is staying on stage in this performance, when it should be going out to the audience. NO.

@ilovetruffles99 Well, if you didn't see the show there's no way you can comment on how bad the concept is. This is a number in the show which takes place after they have all worked on their vocals. The nuns do begin as people who can't sing a note - but to make the show work as a West End show it had to be re-worked. You could not get away with putting a bunch of awful sounding nuns on the stage and hoping people like it. The show is far better than the film ever was!!!

See when we normaly speak the voice and face expresses the feeling equaly, but when lipsinking we over compensate by opening the mouth wider in order to add feeling to the words and in atempt make people belive you are actually sining rather than faking it.

If you saw the musical in london you will see the difference - but they were still good -i went in June last year when it had only been opened a month and i would certainly recommend it - shame in August that Whoopi is only taking over the Mother Supeiror roll for three weeks - give her a go at Patina roll for a night or two

The reason its so blatant is cause the vocals are mixed and compressed in a really unlive 'cast recording' way - definitely not suitable for miming to. They're doing the best they can with what they have... Its like miming to something that isn't you. They probably couldn't do it live cause of radio mic frequency issues in a place where there are many studios...and a generally poor acoustic in the studio. Also better vocal sound = better advert. But this just looked fake cause of the above.

If they are performing a heck of alot, litigation probably made them mime to preserve the "product" for the actual performances. Kinda lame but thats legality for you.

Actually, they approached Alan Menken to augment the existing songs from the film with some originals, and he refused. If he was going to write the score, he wanted to write the entire score. Trust me, the movie songs aren't missed at all.

The GMTV studio isn't set up for live performances. Would require sound checks etc. etc. Much much faster and easier to have all musical artists mime. End of the day, the whole point is to advertise, not to be a live performance.
