I use a couple of satellite receivers to feed my standards converters, set to 4:3 aspect ratio and receiving BBC-1 and ITV via FreeSat (Astra 2D, 28°E). This avoids the horrible (and pointless) black bars which you get with the cropped 14:9 pictures they insist on transmitting via analogue, which (are you listening, BBC/ITV?) fit NO existing TV screens without even more cropping.
The same can be done with DTT with the box set to 4:3 :-)
Very dinky.
