The instrument being used at :59 is a melodica, which is similar to an accordian, but usually a much higher pitch. The key difference is that the player blows into the melodica themself, rather than stretching out the accordian for air

the thing about this song is that you don't "know" how it's gonna end so you stay till the end of the "movie" (metaphor!! Yay!) even though, most likely, you actually do know how it's gonna end, but you still hope...
