@jackanusjackanus lol i think ur just mad cause he wants dj equipment n he cant afford it...lol, dnt worry bout it bro, ur set up is good, u give wat the bride and groom wants lil lighting, and you did exactly that. dnt mind the idiots like this.
Good log, but if you need mixing software use serato. There is no better control vinyl then that. Virtual DJ sucks seriously haha. I use serato myself.
ok dont mean to be rude but.....I hate when people put up gig logs and only the last 2mins of the video is music and dancing!!! I could care less about all the rambling in the videos! We need djs to post gig logs with scenes of nothing but music and lights....EVERYONE TALKS WAY TOO MUCH!!!!
Get a program called Virtual DJ, there are many others Serato, Traktor, but VDJ is pretty intuitive and a great way to break into this kind of work flow. Obviously you'll want to rip your cd's to MP3. You can do this with windows media player, but ensure that it makes MP3's and the bit rate is +328K. The cool thing about the new VDJ, is that if you have it legit, you can connect to a service that has pretty much every song ever, and it shows you the key of tracks so that you can harmonically mix
ok i am a new the the game DJ . i think it would be more effective if you used a mirrior ball at weddings. and for your request for comments of switching off of cd's . i use Windows Media Player. its really easy . and very simple to make playlists. its just click and drag .
@DJNIKKO9c1 Windows media player? Really? I don't think you have to have a $10K audio setup but you should have some equipment. I mean if you are using free software, what's keeping you from using pirated music? Don't embarrass the dj community or yourself. Get some proper kit. The rule is, the best you can afford.
@K1LLGANNON Ok he asked for a lil info an switching from just using his cd's. i mentioned WMP because he would be able to have all of his cd's in one place. i only use it because i cant afford and true software, like Virtual DJ. I myself am new to the game. and have just no got every thing i need to get my service up on its feet. and i dont pirate music. God forbid i have access to a collection of vinyl that ranges from the 60's to the mid 80's.
@DJNIKKO9c1 Yes he did ask that. The way you presented your information it made it seem like you were advocating using WMP as dj software.
Now, as far as you mouthing off to an experienced dj, kindly eat my ass. You bring up vinyl that you have "access" to? I've worn out more vinyl records then you will ever own. Are you really "new to the game" or have you even started playing? The last thing you need to worry about is gear or software. Get some proper training then talk shit.
@K1LLGANNON I never claimed to be the greatest DJ out there. I DJ school dances, weddings and and parties. not clubs. nothing up scale. And you, you should not be rippin me up one side and down the other. A true DJ would invite me into the world of DJ'ing and give me helpfull starter tips. Not repremanding me for giving my input to someone who asked. Oh and if you mean you have worn through so much vinyl, im guessing by scratching. i wasnt saying i use my archive to scratch i use it to play.
@DJNIKKO9c1 You have never played a record enough to wear it out? Now I know you're a noob. I have a stack of records as high as my waist that have been played to the point of no return. Not one time did I scratch. You need to take that into account before you go wearing out your dad's records. They wear out. Welcome to the world of DJ'ing. DJ's don't like posers running around making the pros look like hacks. You are going to get that around every turn. Get real or get used to it.
@DJNIKKO9c1 I mean honestly, where do you get off giving someone else advice on how to dj? You should really go watch brian s. redd's video on hacks. Do you think buying equipment will make you a dj? Let's say you drop 50 large on a mobile system tomorrow, do you think you have the knowledge to effectively dj a professional event? You need to get an internship or part time gig with an established mobile entertainment company and learn programming before you risk bombing someones event.
good laptop/mac book pro /vestax vci-300 comes with itch software, (tip) ur home pc get a duplex sound card(records and play at the same time) a good recording software like sony sound forge has an mp3 converter!!!! and listen to all the full PLAYING TRACKS ON THE NET AND I DON'T HAVE TO TELL YOU WHAT TO DO NEXT CAUSE IS ILLEGAL...LOL
for getting into digital djing, first get the music you want most on your laptop, start building a library and when you think you have enough. start with virtual dj and get a small mixer for it too, and you will find it much easier and faster to do, it actually makes you a better DJ
Re digital djing, Serato of course; however I'v been quite happy with Traktor Pro and Denon S1200 Denon X120 and a mac Book Pro. Good luck burning your entire cd collection though!
by the way, thanks for all your vids, I've learnt a lot from them.
can you use virtual dj as it is supposed to work? (i kinda hate it because my version (6.0) has very much latency with a controller it crackles constantly and certain songs (that are just ok) it just won't play (any help please?:P)
LED is the way to go for any mobile DJ of stage performance simply because low heat, low power consumption, AND longevity not to mention they are many many many! times brighter and more versatile halogen and ARC is a thing of the past its crude and some times... flat out dangerous! fire hazard, burns ect...
i agree with you.... LED shit is dumb. i work as a lighting designer/operator/programmer for a band and we stick with the hardcore halogen and arc lamps :)
your lighting sucks bro! stick with LED lighing, use a complet trust lighting standing to spreadout yuor light. look into min spots, color banks, washes, color tubes all sound activated. you need inprovement on your light show
I personally don't bring out any type of 10 or 15 ft trussing for less than $1000 for 4 hours. Its overkill if you did that for every gig you did. Thats why you DJ at clubs and get paid $300 or less. Your lucky to get $150 for the clubs here. I only do 2. You don't have to mix for weddings, some people don't want you to mix at all. Unless you do wedding receptions, I advise you to lay off. Mobile gigs are a completely different. I mix, you don't have to mix every show.
your a disc jockey so i dont expect you to know how to do a mix mash up mix tape (go to the club once in a while) get some teqhnics turntables or some pioneer cdj. you can start leaning how to beat match with m-audio, sctach live, or trackor scratch. you can use midi control on any of those try a mv-8000. buy djing for dummies.
@DJOmega80 it shouldn't matter if you wanna stick to regular mixing your fine you don't have to go to Pc djing and for most of these gigs they don't want mixing "club style" they just want you to link songs to gether with a gentle fade but try to match the beats up for a cleaner transition
@jackanusjackanus " how to beat match with m-audio, sctach live, or trackor scratch. you can use midi control on any of those try a mv-8000. buy djing for dummies."
hahah you have to be the worst dj if you have to use a shitty program just to beatmatch. it takes all the skill out of it. the only reason people such as myself use it is to not do what this bloke does and carry around like 6 cases of cd's.
also your sound system sucks too you really do need some bass and put it on the floor not the stage, when the speakers are in front or just not directly faceing you your gonna need some both monitors, sometime you can do without if your a pro (not you).
Your main speakers should always be off the ground and above the crowd to maintain clear sound over the entire dancefloor. Subs can easily be hidden under the table for a clean setup. You don't need "booth" monitors, that is what headphones are for.
@DJOmega80 That jackanus guy is a straight up asshole. Have you seen this guy's channel? Not one dj related upload. There are some people who just don't have a parade of their own so they choose to rain on someone elses. Honestly, you're doing a good job. Fuck that guy. Practice n' enjoy.
@jackanusjackanus lol i think ur just mad cause he wants dj equipment n he cant afford it...lol, dnt worry bout it bro, ur set up is good, u give wat the bride and groom wants lil lighting, and you did exactly that. dnt mind the idiots like this.
@ JackanusJackanus you seem like a real...well Jack Anus... You should keep speakers ABOVE crowd aspecially if your horns face in the DOWNWARD position... Maybe if you were a DJ you would understand.
Never refer to anyone using *white* or *black*. It makes me sick that people treat others like this. Back to vid though, perhaps loud volumes wasnt an requirement.... Afterall its a wedding, not a rave.
Nice log. Good tips and nice shooting. Advice: There will always be announcements to be made throughout the reception. Especially during dinner. Recommend your clients that announcements and background music are essential and should not be omitted from the event.
DynamiteDJsRichmond??? Never put speakers on the floor. Subs, sure, but not speakers. Other option is to put the speakers on top of the bass bins with a speaker pole. Also, i know you said this 2 months ago, but i thought i'd reply :D
if your looking into software.. i think virtual dj would be the best bet for you just by going off your song selection you had in this video i use RANE SERATO SCRATCH LIVE i love it. its so advanced. great for mixxing
I remember when I played with a jazz combo and they told us to bring a PA so I could make announcements (I'm the DJ/Drummer, lol) but wasn't aware they would want to use the mic, so I ended up carying the mix and mixer with me to each person who wanted to talk. Lesson learned, my wireless mics are always in my bag :-) I'll be doing a wedding where the couple doesn't want any group dance or traditional songs - that'll be a trick for me to pull off
For an early 20's wedding, they expect to hear some hip hop. Of course, I only started playing it near the end of the evening. As most DJs would say, read the crowd and play what they want to hear.
The white moonflowers only have sound active mode.
If you are interested in Digital DJing I suggest either virtual dj if you want more control of the mixes or Mixmeister Fusion is completely fool proof. I use both with my rig.
Hi mate, im 16...and would recommend Virtual DJ...ive played around with pcdj alot but find virtual dj alot easier and friendly.. an external control pannel..usb ofcourse can be brought for about £130 wich i would guess around $260 maybe? This allows you to match bpms of songs and mix/cut out bass treble etc..add effects for a smooth transition easy talkover wiht a mixer tha allows that...aswell as being able to plug it in to a mixer and use 2 channels for both left and right cd players..Tom
They were plenty loud. I didn't even have them turned up past half. I actually got a bunch of compliments after about how good the sound was. I do plan to add a sub or two soon.
Price will vary based on what the client wants. Your best bet would be to check with local DJs in your area to see what they charge. After you get some of their prices, then you need to decide where you fit in based on what they offer and what you can offer. Do not just think that "this is what they charge, so this will be what I charge." Good luck.
ok use fist get all you cds and load the new windos Media Player thin set it to mp3 and the best qwoltey may that more room on your hd be dont loss sound power but it doing that all to mp3\ compter you need to buy a ppl or you get done for use it ppl ar around £250 in the uk im help u just pm me
Funny. I have been asked "not" to bring a fogger, don't bring a bubble maker or Strobe Lights... but I have never been told not to bring a big light show. But I guess there is always a first. good luck with your gigs.
Just search for "Ultimate Telelock" and you should find everything you need. The telelock system is part of the speaker stands. If you have any other questions about it, feel free to ask.
yeah heres a tip for digital mobile work get 2 external harddrives at high gbs so u have a back up and you can fit all your songs on then get the right software for mobile dj-ing work i recomend OTS software its really good. then rip all your cds enjoy :)
I would go for a pc rather Than A Laptop (Due to its easyer to upgrade n more powerfull but get around them specs & i can ensure it wont cause a problem (Freeze's,ect)
I have already minimized the number of cds that I bring. In order to meet everyone's requests for songs, I need to bring cds for disco, country, classic rock, oldies, hip hop, and top40. For instance at this gig, I got a request for "Sex on the Beach" because it was the bride's favorite song at college. That song would not have been with me if I only brought a case or two. I'm hoping hard drives with mp3s will fix this problem for me.
Hmm think it's good to fulfill peoples request but there's no need to fulfill everyones imo. Basically the bar-djs here are mobile djs meaning ok equipment is in the bar but they need to carry their music around and usually they go around with case or two. Everyone as they see fit, 4 cases of cds is lot to carry.
If I were you I would use OTSAV DJ the best ever I use it

@DJOmega80 That jackanus guy is a straight up asshole. Have you seen this guy's channel? Not one dj related upload. There are some people who just don't have a parade of their own so they choose to rain on someone elses. Honestly, you're doing a good job. Fuck that guy. Practice n' enjoy.
K1LLGANNON 1 year ago
@jackanusjackanus lol i think ur just mad cause he wants dj equipment n he cant afford it...lol, dnt worry bout it bro, ur set up is good, u give wat the bride and groom wants lil lighting, and you did exactly that. dnt mind the idiots like this.
Djtexnikal 1 year ago
@jackanusjackanus So wait, I take it by your infinite wisdom and knowledge on the subject that your a master DJ yourself? 0_o
JDCoolMan21 1 year ago
@ JackanusJackanus you seem like a real...well Jack Anus... You should keep speakers ABOVE crowd aspecially if your horns face in the DOWNWARD position... Maybe if you were a DJ you would understand.
CGAUDIODJSERVICES 1 year ago
dude i think yu need more speakers to do a big party im latino and latin ppl need alot of speakers i kmean big ones at least 12 and subs too..
so idk how white people party with twoo lil speakers..i be like wow
exit9finezt1 2 years ago
Never refer to anyone using *white* or *black*. It makes me sick that people treat others like this. Back to vid though, perhaps loud volumes wasnt an requirement.... Afterall its a wedding, not a rave.
DjFroztbyte 2 years ago
also (exit9), its quality not quantity.
DjFroztbyte 2 years ago
Not really...a pair of EV PX2152's with a pair of subs like the EV PX2181's could handle pretty much any party a DJ might have to play.
fivestarentny 2 years ago
I recommemd to use a subwoofer for such a big place.

Nice log. Good tips and nice shooting. Advice: There will always be announcements to be made throughout the reception. Especially during dinner. Recommend your clients that announcements and background music are essential and should not be omitted from the event.

The ultimate stands are nice. I use the light stand. I hate speakers on a stand..... UUu uGGGlllyyyy.
DynamiteDJsRichmond 2 years ago
Where else would you put the speakers
DynamiteDJsRichmond??? Never put speakers on the floor. Subs, sure, but not speakers. Other option is to put the speakers on top of the bass bins with a speaker pole. Also, i know you said this 2 months ago, but i thought i'd reply :D
DjFroztbyte 2 years ago
well, you were on an elevated stage. You could have or I would have put them on the stage floor. Of course not on the floorbelow the stage.

I remember when I played with a jazz combo and they told us to bring a PA so I could make announcements (I'm the DJ/Drummer, lol) but wasn't aware they would want to use the mic, so I ended up carying the mix and mixer with me to each person who wanted to talk. Lesson learned, my wireless mics are always in my bag :-) I'll be doing a wedding where the couple doesn't want any group dance or traditional songs - that'll be a trick for me to pull off
djstoltz2000 3 years ago
It is always amazing that wedding couples feel they are the expert in creating the party atmosphere. Good luck. I hope it turns out well for you.

what are the lights your using?
joelescobedo918 3 years ago
Hi
At 6.45 in the vid what is the name of the lights that are liks a mushroom effect ?????
djthreshhold 3 years ago
It is the American DJ Vertigo.
DJOmega80 3 years ago
Ummm...Dude, what are you doing by playing Get Low at a wedding? Are you kidding me?
Otherwise...looks great. Those white moonflowers might serve you better in straight rotate mode than sound active.
Always have a wireless microphone whether they specify it or not. It will get used.
Soundofthetimes 3 years ago
For an early 20's wedding, they expect to hear some hip hop. Of course, I only started playing it near the end of the evening. As most DJs would say, read the crowd and play what they want to hear.
The white moonflowers only have sound active mode.
DJOmega80 3 years ago
Everything you say has merit, but that song is just plain offensive. Playing that song is a big risk in my opinion.
Soundofthetimes 3 years ago
I see your point also. The unedited version is risky, but the clean version clears most of that up.
DJOmega80 3 years ago
ALWAYS bring a wireless mic, regardless of what they say. It needs to be something you bring to every party, no exceptions.

Looks like a bunch of hippies in a field, LOL.

If you are interested in Digital DJing I suggest either virtual dj if you want more control of the mixes or Mixmeister Fusion is completely fool proof. I use both with my rig.
zbunn82 3 years ago
I've been looking at using Mixmeister. For mobile gigs, do you just use the non-beatmix mode allowing each song to just fade into the next?
DJOmega80 3 years ago
sexy back from justin is cool to play, billie jean the best, madonna well depends of the ambient of the party.
M2N4E6 3 years ago
WHITE TAPE?! Better use black! Nice party though!
:)
DjLarsAngeles 3 years ago
yeah tape is always good but yellow tape is a must. its brighter so it stands out so no one would trip.

oh come on no Bille Jean... OR MADONA!!
ddrmaniac5 3 years ago
Hi mate, im 16...and would recommend Virtual DJ...ive played around with pcdj alot but find virtual dj alot easier and friendly.. an external control pannel..usb ofcourse can be brought for about £130 wich i would guess around $260 maybe? This allows you to match bpms of songs and mix/cut out bass treble etc..add effects for a smooth transition easy talkover wiht a mixer tha allows that...aswell as being able to plug it in to a mixer and use 2 channels for both left and right cd players..Tom
whittydosomething 3 years ago
i suggest you get the american audio sdj1, i use iit and i love it because u dont need cds which makes ma life much easier...

im going to start djing and i dont know what to charge.
whats your hourly charge or package.
thank you.
wedo31 4 years ago
Price will vary based on what the client wants. Your best bet would be to check with local DJs in your area to see what they charge. After you get some of their prices, then you need to decide where you fit in based on what they offer and what you can offer. Do not just think that "this is what they charge, so this will be what I charge." Good luck.

ok thanks a lot man.

djfreebey 4 years ago
Tips for Digital DJing:
1. Use a lossless format
- Most DJs run on Apple equipment and that's not hard for them, several pro djs even admit they use AIFF. MP3s are not good for huge soundsystems!
2. Grab yourself a mobile external hard drive!
- Those lossless files get huuuuge! This'll help you with your space issue once you begin importing.
3. If you are stuck with MP3, don't play anything lower than 320KB/s especially not iTunes Music Store Songs!

hey there, nice video! ... just wondering what "WATT" your speakers are?
hass294 4 years ago
They are the Mackie SRM450's. 400 watts per speaker
DJOmega80 4 years ago
Funny. I have been asked "not" to bring a fogger, don't bring a bubble maker or Strobe Lights... but I have never been told not to bring a big light show. But I guess there is always a first. good luck with your gigs.

hey man where can a get those clampls/clips that are on the speaker stands? is it one whole unit?
djrebel 4 years ago
Just search for "Ultimate Telelock" and you should find everything you need. The telelock system is part of the speaker stands. If you have any other questions about it, feel free to ask.

When Buying a Dj Pc Look For One
Pref
Over A 1GB Of Ram
2,5 ghz or over Prosessor

Hard Drive Size vary on amount of music
pref sata as they are More Relible

radioviper 4 years ago
Thanks, this is very helpful. Gives me a starting point for what to look for.
DJOmega80 4 years ago
That's few cds... doubt that you need to carry that much with you case or two should be enough to bring along to pull through the gig.
syntse 4 years ago
I have already minimized the number of cds that I bring. In order to meet everyone's requests for songs, I need to bring cds for disco, country, classic rock, oldies, hip hop, and top40. For instance at this gig, I got a request for "Sex on the Beach" because it was the bride's favorite song at college. That song would not have been with me if I only brought a case or two. I'm hoping hard drives with mp3s will fix this problem for me.
DJOmega80 4 years ago
Hmm think it's good to fulfill peoples request but there's no need to fulfill everyones imo. Basically the bar-djs here are mobile djs meaning ok equipment is in the bar but they need to carry their music around and usually they go around with case or two. Everyone as they see fit, 4 cases of cds is lot to carry.
syntse 4 years ago
good video..was that a remix to cha cha i heard towards d end
