I've heard the Anti-Absinthe press was largely generated by pissed-off vintners. And I gotta tell you---i suspect most Absinthe victims were victims of alcoholism, not the chemical in absinthe.

I distill professional grade absinthe using a self-modification of the original recipe, and even though I double up on Anise, Star Anise, Wormwood and often add Kava Kava or Eucalyptus as well as mint, i've had many different absinthes, as well as many... many bottles of my own. It is absolutely not dangerous... More pure alcohol than most, it leaves hangovers to the lower quality vodka's and other 'liquor store" brand alcohols... Yes, it makes you slightly euphoric... Halloucinations? No.

Absolutely the best show ever. I've probably averaged watching 2 shows a week over the last year and I've never seen this episode!!!!!! What the hell?

On a side note, I can't wait to get my hands on some quality absinthe! No doubt it will be enjoyable!

Anthony is a genuinely amusing guy that I like, the only thing he got wrong is that absinthe is 100% legal in America (and was at the time this video was shot). The "hallucination" bits were of course meant to be humourous so don't anyone get thew wrong idea, now. :)

One other thing: Modern, US-available absinthe is indeed the "real deal". Exactly the same effect as EU absinthe, exactly the same effect from absinthe from a century ago. This is coming from someone who's drank absinthe from 1800s

Im glad to hear that. in a short time Ive become pretty fond of US absinthe Vieux Carre.

Are there any better brands I can get in the US? Im looking forward to trying more.

Vieux carre is good, but I'd certainly say there are better brands. Absinth is actually quite a nice drink compared to other spirits. gives you real bastard behind the eyes the next morning though!

@omeega Not necessarily, absinthe is different than normal alcohol. REAL absinthe contains thujone, which is a GABA antagonist and 5HT3 agonist, giving it its unique effects.
