Eydie Gorme's real name is Edith Gormenzano & is from Spanish parents. Raised in New york, After her parents came from Spain. She is also a Sephardic Jew. She speaks spanish very well, & has done, back in the day, with some very big name Hispanic artists. I am not sure if Eydie was born in Spain, or she was born in the U.S but yes, she is pretty much a Latina Jew. I love Eydie, though. I was so upset her & Steve were not in Vegas when I was vacationing there about a year ago...
My cousin had a version in German when we were kids (early 60's). Don't know who sang it. All I know is I love that version and the lady who sang it was beautiful.
esta cancion esta tatuada en mi memoria mis padres la ponian una y otra vez. ahora k vivo lejos de ellos, es para mi una forma de estar conectado con ellos!!!!!!!
What an interesting glimpse of a fascinating woman these comments allow us. Like her slightly smoky voice and like the song, both in English and in Spanish. Remember it vaguely from when I was a kid but it must have been the German version I heard on the radio at the time. We didn't have a record player!
With her perfect Spanish and English, she was a language translator at the United Nations before becoming a singing star. She and Steve have been married more than 50 years.
I think even more interesting regarding Edie Gorme's first job, is that she was a High School student when she was first hired as a Spanish translator by the U.N. Wow!
I am from Mexico and I have to say we absolutely love her there. And she sings amazingly in Spanish. She only has a hint of an accent, her Spanish it's almost perfect.
I'm glad you commented on Edie's ability to sing in Spanish. I was wondering about that. I think she sounds harshr and loud in this version, almost more down to earth than the english version.
Thanks for posting this wonderful song in Spanish. This song is a personal favourite of mine and has helped me to shed 75 pounds in nine months. I will never grow tired of Eydie's incredible voice nor this incredible song.
At the very end, it's funny to hear the original back-up singers suddenly reappear with the line, "Now was it the moon?" in English.

@hebneh....Back up singer were The Cookies. I don't think they knew how to sing in Spanish.

@MrDRUID27 Her name was Manuela, and she had LOTS of German hits. Sadly, she died in 2001 of, of all things, mouth cancer...
