The guy keeping the game clock went off the ref's motion, but the Wisconsin offense is forced to rely on when the ref blows his whistle because the referee is behind him. The ref was not consistent with the time that he started his arm motion with when he blew his whistle and Wisconsin should have had 1 second left on the clock.

clock starts on the referees signal after a first down, not when the ball is snapped. this was a bad mistake on russell wilson's part. a player with his level of experience should know better than to try to attempt to spike the ball in this situation, there's just not enough time. everyone on wisconsin's offense should've been told prior to the previous play that they needed to get to the line for a hail mary on the next play.

The clock started once the ref started moving his arm. However, he doesn't blow his whistle until his arm points toward the ground, resulting in a 1 second delay. The guy keeping the game clock went off the ref's motion, but the Wisconsin offense is forced to rely on when the ref blows his whistle because the referee is behind him. The ref was not consistent with the time that he started his arm motion with when he blew his whistle and Wisconsin should have had 1 second left on the clock.

The clock showed 2 seconds, but probably closer to 1 second as the 2 represents any time from 1.01 to 2.00. So it might have been only 1.2 seconds, etc.
