The bulid up to the main Jeopardy melody is very creepy for a 30 minute quiz show. i guess Merv Griffin wanted to envoke the show's title in the theme. It works well.
I had hope there. Finally a theme that matches the dramatic title of the programme. Then it descends into that inappropriately happy, cheery, chirpy bollocks again. When I'm producer of this show, the signature will be Personal Jesus by Marilyn Manson.
This truly will always be the quintissential Jeopardy, I remember all the incredible contestants who walked out onto the stage to this: Chuck Forrest, Bob Verini, Dave Traini, Eugene Finerman, Marc Lowenthal, Leah Greenwald, Tom Cubbage, Rich Lerner, Eric Newhouse, Bob Blake, and Frank Spangenberg.
Cue Johnny Gilbert: THIS IS JEOPARDY! Now entering the studio are today's contestants; First a volunteer firefighter from Houston Texas, John Roberts, second, a music producer from Los Angeles California, Anne Wilson, and our returning champion, a software engineer from Salt Lake City Utah with an incredible 73 wins a grand total of $2,304,531 Ken Jennings! And here is your host of Jeopardy! Alex Trebek!
the last 30 seconds of this theme were never heard because during the closing credits, because @ 1:45, the song would revert back to 1:17 and play that part over again, and often johnny would say "jeopardy has been a production of merv griffin enterprises" part and the merv griffin pegasus logo would come on at around the 1:35 mark...

what would have been cool, is for Season 25 to have been using this theme and the classic stage setup as well, and switch them to what they are now at Season 26
This is the for Nintendo GameCube version of Jeopardy's intro sequence where all of the players and the host are cartwheeling and slipping off the window and flying down to their areas at the Jeopardy stage.
Trebeck's career was almost tragically cut short by his addiction to the drug Movebustin. His frequent outbreaks of beat and rhythm distracted and disturbed the contestants, and caused Trebeck to injure his back. Only extensive therapy and reverting to the old theme song saved his life and career.
I hear they might be starting a spin-off of Jeopardy in Russia with Vladimir Putin as the host, and using this theme. Of course, the game play is done Russian-Roulette style...so you definatly don't want to sqrew up the daily double!
Ah, very 80s porn-ish; "wer wer wer" mixed with sax. Funny how it goes from creepy Star Wars type zap noises to almost pleasant and uplifting with the sax.
This theme always remains a part of my life ebcause I remember watching Jeopardy with my family when i was a little girl and being scared when it started. Still is an awesome theme.
i used to watch jeopardy back during this era originally, then again int he late 90s when game show network aired 80s reruns of wheel and jeopardy at 11am opposite against the price is right on the local cbs affiliates...
how can u not sing or dance along to this song lol. i cnt believe they had to change it, all game shows theme songs 2day sucks. the 80s and 90s had da best themes. idk y everything 2day has to be so plaIn and boaring.
BLEH HEH HEH HEH BLECK!!!!! Jeopardy is THE best trivia game EVER, says littlemacaddict! No seriously, it is. Good musique (Français [French] for music) too.
love this time. this is old school while the 1997-2001 theme was jazzy new school. the current 2008-present mix is what i like to call the half ass, watered down, uninspring generic theme
You know, the time I finally got into Jeopardy, all the good parts of it are dead. Thankfully Youtube provides that lost knowledge gathered in the 80's for pure nostalgic purposes. In short; Jeopardy Then is better than Jeopardy Now.
@pannoni1 The lead synth was my trusty old Prophet 5, which is still employed in my studio today. The electronic bleeps on the intro were my Jupiter 8. I also used a Clavinet and a Rhodes on this theme. The drum machine sounds like my Linn 9000, which had just been released that year. Might have used my Yamah RX11 for a few sounds as well.
For some reason this sounds like one of those songs if you were high or drunk at a club you would think you would be hearing something that was awesome lol
This is Jeopardy! Now entering the studio are today's contestants! (description of each contestant). And now, here is the host of Jeopardy, Alex Trebek!
I think keeping this theme would have been a great idea because its very catchy and a clear classic. It would also be nice if they had a special edition of Jeopardy! where the entire old set is back and all the questions are about everything from 1984.
I agree -- except I think the "J" was given to one of the Executive Producers when they changed sets. What would be cool would be to replicate THIS set and use it as the traveling set when go on location -- use the original theme arrangement and 'Think!" music -- just for those weeks. Best of both worlds. (Sorry, I still have a soft spot for this version of the theme.)
The music video, shot on May 24, 1984 and May 25, 1984 and directed by Francis Delia,[2] takes place on a reproduction of the 1964-1975 Jeopardy! set; the 1980s version of the show, with a new set and Alex Trebek as host, would debut fourteen weeks after the single's release.
