The bulid up to the main Jeopardy melody is very creepy for a 30 minute quiz show. i guess Merv Griffin wanted to envoke the show's title in the theme. It works well.

I had hope there. Finally a theme that matches the dramatic title of the programme. Then it descends into that inappropriately happy, cheery, chirpy bollocks again. When I'm producer of this show, the signature will be Personal Jesus by Marilyn Manson.

@pannoni1 The lead synth was my trusty old Prophet 5, which is still employed in my studio today. The electronic bleeps on the intro were my Jupiter 8. I also used a Clavinet and a Rhodes on this theme. The drum machine sounds like my Linn 9000, which had just been released that year. Might have used my Yamah RX11 for a few sounds as well.

I agree -- except I think the "J" was given to one of the Executive Producers when they changed sets. What would be cool would be to replicate THIS set and use it as the traveling set when go on location -- use the original theme arrangement and 'Think!" music -- just for those weeks. Best of both worlds. (Sorry, I still have a soft spot for this version of the theme.)
