This is the antithesis of a lovesong. It's about jealousy, possession and obsession - the kind of obsession where people get hurt, even killed. The insert from "Down By The River" liked by so many is unnecessary. I think it actually detracts from the power of the song. The looney Right used to rant about the imagined satanic messages hidden in heavy metal music. This would have them foaming at the mouth. It is genuinely satanic, evil, dark and, regretably, so very true to life.

I didn't care for the studio album version of this song. Then I saw Elvis perform it live in Seattle a couple of years ago and it sent chills up my spine--especially his remarkable falsetto vocal at the end.

This is an extended version of the song where Elvis really works the performance and works the guitar like crazy. IMO, he actually goes into Kurt Cobain territory a bit here.

To me, this is the definitive performance of the song that I have heard so far.
