A tank that big that relies on live rock and live SAND and you have a bare bottom tank?
WTF!!! Dude reef tanks look like shit without sand! and second your plumbing looks like total shit! Fucking swing joints and 45 degree angles? God damn dude, you put all that money into that tank and you can't take any pride in your work? What a fag
this was very cool to watch, how long did it take you to build this and how is it doing now? are you going to do any more post of your tank? i like how you built a wall to hide everything, how do you clean it?
Nice build, If it were me I would have a sand bed but I know it isn't needed rely. How much was the costs of your build, i'm sure stuff like the Skimmer and a chiller would have costs more than your tank. I plan on doing a 250 gallon custom build soon
You need to get some substrate on the base of the tank, firstly it is un-natural and secondly you will find that you fish will be more at home, obviously there are other benefits. Looks good though
Dude, way overstocked with fish, but very nice setup, not so sure the foxface is reef friendly though and could use some more substrate, or maybe I just couldn't see the amount
Didn't know that about the fox face, thanks for the info, do you know anyway to re scape a reef aquarium with encrusting corals already grown on the rock?
If its well established i wouldnt reccomend it. although if neccessarry i would break apart the rocks with corals on them so none are damaged, also remove all livestock into buckets with heaters.
Ive been doing my research for a 150 gal Im planning for in the near future. Can you tell me what the pipes are for in the back?(never seen a design like that) And also did you build your refugium yourself or customize anything in it? (if you built it was it worth it and how much $ did you save)??? Hard work paid off - amazing tank.
m8 just 2 let u know i have been reserching marines 4 about 8 months as you should. i would recomend goin an looking at commercial tank this should help you
What the pipes on the back? They are his overflows and yes they do do some surface skimming. It's not usually a good idea to plumb it without overflow boxes though. The strainers clog fast, even with 4 of them.
I am looking to build my own tank i want a 5000 gal tank and want to do it myself so i can get exactly what i want do u have a direction u can point me for supplies
Wow, that is a nice aquarium. I'm guessing you have had a lot of experience with smaller aquariums before building that one. I would like to have a nice aquarium but it looks like a lot of work. That will keep the fish happy though.

1. Its not overstocked.
2. Foxface are reef safe if well fed.
3. Substrate is not necessary.
