  • "I had gone to no such place but to the smoke of cafes and nights when the room whirled and you needed to look at the wall to make it stop, nights in bed, drunk, when you knew that that was all there was, and the strange excitement of waking and not knowing who it was with you, and the world so unreal in the dark and so exciting that you must resume again unknowing and not caring in the night, sure that this was all and all and all and not caring." -E.H., 1929 A Farewell To Arms

  • Ernest Hemingway IS dos equis, world's most interesting man!

  • @JustKushty homosexuals, with their recent rise to power, have practically tried to turn every historical figure into a closet homosexual. Their freudian theories of Hemingway's homosexuality are downright ridiculous. he wrote beautiful books, what have you done in your profession that matches his success ?

  • @PcA444 and all the rest of you shallow critics- Really....? Your all philistine's. The man dedicated his life to writing. What have you dedicated yours tool?

  • Nobody talks about the hemmingway that murdered many unarmed POW's in WW2 - by his own account. He was a druken, whoring, psychopath with a knack for writing.

  • @blumenthol And I love him.

  • Thank you for the composer's name, Modaent. I was just asking myself that question because the music is awesome. Romantic and international, like Hemingway. I thought maybe it came from "Lawrence of Arabia."

  • Hemingway was the man. What a life. Sad ending but what a ride. I love his works.

  • Hemingway

    was not a NICE person

he treated his wives like blank

    was full of himself

    drank too much

sure Papa Hemingway was a SOB

    but

Hemingway was one hell of a artist

  • @racedinghy describes 99.9% of people. the only difference is that 99.9% never changed the face of modern literature.

  • @racedinghy yawn

  • Strangely enough,, Have you ever noticed the best writers have great last names.... Hemingway,, Steinbeck? Not sure if it matters, but looks better on a book cover and I've always thought it brings attention to your work.

If i ever decide to writed a book i will certainly research an astounding pen name!

  • what about

    "Gorky"?

  • Yeah, and I think Oppenheimer is the perfect last name. Sounds serious.

Sounds scary. Can you imagine the atomic bomb being created by a guy named, Tony Jones?

  • ajjajaj!!!!

  • No interview but amazing photos i never seen! Such a handsome man....

  • Misleading video title.

  • lovely writer!

  • Everyone of his pieces have made my heart race in anticipation, my eyes water with laughter and my mouth dry in sadness.

He was a beautiful intelligent writer.

  • To the critics below, one must separate the artist from the work of art. Carravaggio was a monster, Edgar Allan Poe was not of flawless character, and neither was a Melville--but so what! Go worship your Hollywood stars or your Trumps, whose contempt for society is so total! I think we can all agree that every goddamned individual has their own vices, though he at least doesn't flaunt them in the face of every American. And at least he tried to bring something beautiful into this world.

  • @pca4444 Right. Actually, the greatest geniuses lives were mostly tragic: drugs, violence, alcohol, absent or abusive father, lost childhood, poverty, etc.

  • The music is from the film score "For whom the Bell Tolls" written by Victor Young

  • who composed the music of the video?

  • to have and have not is great! the movie together with Bogey is a must see

  • Where did get this music from?

  • Perhaps, but it got nothing to do with literature.

  • His masterpiece is"The old man and the sea".

    No doubt about it.

  • Hemingway did a lot of great writing. Many of his short stories were masterpieces. "Indian Camp" is one of them - a few pages where a wonderful and deadly story is told and social injustices addressed. The last sentence is a breath of fresh air and a punch in the guts at the same time.

Hemingway felt, so he drank, so he felt, so he drank.

Of course he was an alcoholic and a bigot and more than a bit psychotic and unpleasant - and along with all that he had greatness in his soul.

  • A bigot......which planet are you from??ive never heard or read anything so false in all my life.

  • Do some research. The Hemingway resource centre for starters and work your way out from there. When you've educated yourself you don't have to admit you are wrong, but you will know you were and that's a start.

  • hemingway was a bigot...and a misogynist...and abusive to his wives and childrens. these things in now way diminish his genius, but to deny them is silly.

  • I just read "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and I think it's fantastic - and as relevant and as moving set in the context of contemporary society as it must have been was when it was first written.

  • In my Opinion "The Sun Also Rises" is his masterpiece

    I highly reccommend it

  • he may be this he may have been that but he did alot what've you done I mean really. Its ok to "hero worship" we've all done it and just because you've gone through that part of growing up it doesnt mean other people arent still at that point in their life
