He has not gone to college. On top of that there was a time where his family lost it all and they had to live in a trailer. He and his family pulled through and are doing ok now. If you think that people believe in god because their lives are shitty then you dont really know much about us atheist.
I've seen that the police didn't care when I reported that I was shot at. And again. Extending the reach of the police my ass. Nevertheless, I can't speak for TheAmazingAtheist. I don't know what sort of setting he grew up in. But you shouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions based on nothing. Sorry for the triple post, by the way.
My brother had quite a temper and would hurt me pretty often for no good reason. My mother also had a tendency to get upset easily and throw things at both of us. I've been shot at a few times. I have quite a few scars. Yet I still share many of the views TheAmazingAtheist holds, and I held them even before I had even heard of him. Growing up at the bottom of the country really gives you a different perspective.
I daresay it seems you pulled this argument out of nowhere.. Sure, it's all possible, but that doesn't mean it's true.. Now I can't speak for TheAmazingAtheist, since I don't know anything about his upbrnging either, but I can say that I share most of his views on things. And I definitely share the sentiments presented in American Obedience. Yet I wasn't raised in a wealthy setting. I grew up in a trailer in the woods with my mom and my older brother, on about $500 a month.
