  • a great scene in a series that averaged about two per show.

  • Main difference between Law and Order and NYPD Blue is that the latter gets far, far more involved in fictitious personal lives of the main characters (sometimes too involved--at times); while L&O skirts far around on the edge, and in effect, leaves you wanting always to know more (point of fact: Jack McCoy has never, ever, been seen with a girlfriend, or potential gal-pal on the show, in general NO cast member is ever shown out of pro-context, it's rare). But....Both shows are very excellent!

  • I miss this show!

  • very emotional stuff! one of the best cop shows ever! better than the wire dare i say!

  • Was that Gosellaar?

  • anyone know if they released a cd soundtrack for this serious? This music is great

  • Where can you catch NYPD Blue online?

  • I just started watching NYPD blue, love this show.

  • Am I the only grown man who has tears in his eyes, quivering lips, and chills down his spine whilst watching this?

  • Law and Order was superficial, predictable, faux Hollywood garbage. You always knew that it was a TV show. NYPD Blue put you -- front and center -- at the crime scenes, police station, streets, and everywhere else it artistically weaved its intricate web of believability. The line between reality and fiction was so artfully blurred that it confused our subconsciouses into believing the unreal. That was the brilliance of NYPD Blue. The directing/writing/acting mesmerized and legitimized.

  • The Law & Order franchise which is still running since 1990, is definitely the best police procedural.

However I think we can all agree that NYPD Blue beats this CSI crap - any day of the week.

  • Found all including season 5-12 on amazon prime "insta watch".

  • worst cop show ever, police brutality, lack of proper procedure, and the most booooring, lifeless cast members.there again, from what we see constantly in the news from the USA,it is probably accurate.

  • @heathirving Worst show ever? Are you serious? NYPD Blue was a classic show, lots of serioous stuff and then something funny. Go watch X -Factor.

  • @heathirving Uk cops are the worst in the world !! The joke is that dominos pizza gets to your house faster than uk cops . A fireman I worked with said that they tell people if you require police assitance , call the fire service as they would turn up and police . The uk cops failed to handle a bunch of chavs in the summer , and I see them just watching crimes taking place and talking to the perps on their level , socially !!

  • @heathirving haters gonna hate.....u mad bro?

  • I wish someone would post a video of the Bobby Simone death scene. My mom died the same week that episode aired and watching it just tore me up.

  • Great clip! Thanks for posting it. I agree, this was one of the best television series ever made. There isn't much else that can compare.

  • Andy Sipowicz; one of the five greatest television characters of all time.

  • One of my favorite series' ever.

  • So many ghosts for him . It kinda stays with you the past all those who come and gone over the years . I admire his enduring and strength

  • I love this show. There have been so many moving scenes in the entire series that it's hard to put a finger on any specific one. This one definitely ranks up there.

Andy Sipowicz was one of the characters that made this show what it was. He was very abrupt and to the point but he had a heart of gold. Look at the relationships he had with his co-workers.

  • one show police show i hold very dearly to my heart was Third Watch, great show, another victim of reality tv, ran for 6 years

  • The best DAM T V show ever!

  • The music here was beyond good. I wish I could get a copy without the dialogue.

  • @airdriver proud of you

  • Living in Brooklyn most of my life most of my friends i grew up with in became cops i could never make it due to health problems and other things going on in my life but they are truly New York's bravest. This show has to be the best police show ever in my book i am sure my wife patty and i have seen them all. The show became part of my life and even the cast became family. Some times i still shed a tear and the music is just great. I miss them all.

  • I still remeber when i stayed wake up till late and i was so thrilled even just to see the main theme,gosh..this serie is THE SERIE!

  • I could watch NYPD BLUE 7 nights a week!!!

  • God cop shows like Law & Order and NYPD Blue were the best. Now every TV writer are writing carbon copies of these shows

  • NYPD Blue is the better cop show than Blue Blood, Memphis Beat, the Canadian cop drama Rookie Blue or even the TLC reality series Police Women of Dallas, Broward County and Memphis, cause those shows can't match the drama of this show, period!!!!!!!!!

  • ok to be honest i have never really watched this show but i just watched this scene and even though i didnt get the true depth of it, it really touched me, and im sure if i watch everything leading up to it it will touch me even more

  • I have to admit, I wanted the final scene to be Sipowicz in a bar with a drink, just like how the first episode began. They could have faded to black and left it unsaid whether or not he broke his sobriety. That would have been cool, especially since this was before all the "Inception"/"Sopranos" type endings became so popular.

  • i hated sipowicz's character. and to hook him up with that smokin hot blonde was a joke...

  • Hello, my name is Andrew and I am currently in university going for a Criminology degree in order to re-apply with the City of Winnipeg Police Service to become a constable. I am 41.

  • Absolutely fantastic!!

  • This choked me up. Thanks for posting.

  • @lionelraoul Same for me......I tear up EVERY TIME this clip airs! Best cops shows, 1) Hill Street Blues 1a) NYPD Blue!!!

  • Wow! Just WOW!

  • @CorruptPhillyCops ---You are so right! I cannot understand why so many shows are about sex all the time--constant jokes and inuendos about it....we GET IT!!! SEX IS WONDERFUL !!! But is it really THAT HUMOROUS?!?!? I guess it must be because practically every show talks about it, jokes about it, ect. You made a great comment!

  • this shows needs to be back on TV shows awesome hell if it was up to me it'd have it's own channel

  • WOW :o

  • I recorded this for my dad and I took it up to PHX when he still lived there and he and I watched it just like we did when it first premiered. Watching NYPD BLUE was one of the most memorable father daughter moments my dad and I had together

  • Law and Order don't have shit on NYPD Blue

  • @LifeIsNotorious child please...in the heat of the night >>Both

  • @fatpatlives1998 I loved in the heat of the night too, and new york undercover

  • @LifeIsNotorious Other way around.

    L&O - 20 seasons; (1990-2010); 456 eps.; 4 spin-offs

    NYPD Blue - 12 Seasons; (1993-2005); 261 eps.; 0 spin-offs

  • @calmURfarm ok. Does that mean its a better show? We have 3 different "CSI's" as well, hell "Friends" sun off "Joey". Doesnt exactly mean one is better than the other. NYPD Blue was one of a kind and I'm glad that they didnt ruin it with horrible spin offs that would kill the series. L&O is a fine show, not my cup of tea though, NYPD Blue was legendary. Please dont throw out simple math of episodes and spin offs that does not make a great show, it just means they milked it for everything it had.

  • @REAMER2323

LMAO. Please, it's a known fact, that Law & Order franchise is more successful than NYPD Blue ~ not an opinion. Guiness World Records, even ranks "L&O as the "world's most successful police procedural".

So if you don't like the facts, then take that at your own discretion. But, the truth must hurt :)

  • @calmURfarm oh my god, the Guiness world record people say so!? I wonder what they say is the my successful Reality show is? Jersey shore? if they say its good that means i'll like that too. As i said before, its a fine show just not my cup of tea, dont get all butt hurt because I like NYPD Blue better. I actually do like facts and the truth, but the only thing i see here is that i am talking to a complete jackass that is mad about how popular TV shows are. But hey you still have guiness :)

  • @REAMER2323 HAHAHA the only jackass here, would be you, hun x

And you clearly don't like the facts, as you still 'think' NYPD Blue is better, than whats already claimed to be the worlds most successful police procedural. Yet, I know the truth. ;)

On the Jersey Shore topic, we see eye to eye - but on Law & Order, someone needs to get their facts straight, and that someone, is you. ;)

  • @calmURfarm ok again, look at what you typed for Gods sake, I do think NYPD Blue is better,i could care less what anyone else thinks. You prefer L&O along with millions of others. I prefer NYPD Blue along with millions of others! Who cares?!? again the most popular and sucessful football team is the Dallas Cowboys, does that make them the greatest? No, it makes them the most marketable. Remember at one point people were buying "Pet rocks" and it was the most popular, greatest toy ever? no.

  • @calmURfarm could you take your BS to some L&O clips and comment there next time instead of trolling NYPD Blue videos? Its a free country and all but i was just hoping :) Thanks, have a blessed day

  • @REAMER2323

Sorry, but there is nothing really bad to say about the worlds most successful police procedural, L&O.

That's assuming I live in your country?

Having a blast! Hope you have a wonderful day too!

  • @calmURfarm lets just agree to disagree. I enjoy Blue, you enjoy L&O. Honestly you cant go wrong with either show

  • Wish I could meet Mr Franz and let him know how deep is my respect for his job in NYPD Blue. And I think Mr Mike Post did a great job at this serie.

  • The music in this scene is THE BEST that Mike post has ever done. I wish there was a way to get a copy of it.

  • All these years since I've seen this character and in under a minute, I choke up. Sipowicz - my most beloved fictional character ever. I miss Dennis Franz.

  • I have seen all kinds of "cop shows" from around the world and as it was put by so many commenting on this scene, AMERICA DOES IT THE BEST and this was THE BEST OF OUR BEST!...The music is magnificent and knows how to tug at every corner from one's soul...I miss the hard hitting dialog and POV of the camera...What has happened to our soul?...I guess it has been "souled" out.

  • After watching the entire series now 3 times, Andy Sipowicz is my hero. This gruff, opinionated, bigoted, guy endured so many things in 12 years it is amazing how he managed to deal with so many ups and downs in the 15th. He came full circle in that show and he is definitely someone I would want on my side bar none. Deep down Andy was so compassionate about things that mattered even when dealing with his own demons. The best cop show ever.

  • I share the same opinions about this great TV show and I doubt there will ever be another one like it. Is ironic I only saw a few episodes back in the day but now I have the entire series, I am now on my 3rd go-around and I keep finding so many things I missed previously. The manner in which Bochco and Milch dealt with characters leaving and writing in new characters was nothing short of genius

  • Granted, I 'm not old enough to remember Hill Street Blues, but I heard it was a good one. The best cop shows of my generation (I'm 30) are: NYPD Blue, The Shield, and The Wire. Detroit 187 is alright, and while The Chicago Code is good, I think it sometimes tries too hard. Hey, I think Jennifer Beals looks pretty sexy.

  • This small scene packs such a HUGE emotional punch each time I see it. Now if all they could get the seasons out on DVD faster I would be so content. This remains to me one of the BEST shows that have ever graced a television set in my 46 years of life. Awesome scene, awesome series!!!

  • To Steven Bochco and ALL the staff from "NYPD BLUE"! THANK YOU so, so much for giving us 'the BEST damn show' on this earth! I am sad that it ended, but I wish you all the very best in ALL you do! You have touched us all beyond words! Again, thank you all!!!

  • Anyone know the song?????

  • WOW WOW WOW I now remember crying at this scene for its power and strength in the character of Andy Sipowicz. Thanks for posting this.

  • NYPD Blue is a great cop show reality or scripted than Police Women of Cincinnati, Rookie Blue and Blue Bloods no other reality or scripted cop shows can replaced the talent and greatness that NYPD Blue was.

  • @virginiabeach2 Totally.com . The talent , writing , music and emotion is stella to downplay its greatness !!

  • NYPD BLUE

    DETROIT 1-8-7

    SOUTHLAND

    CHICAGO CODE

  • Best cop show ever .. hated to see it end. But Detroit 1-8-7 is a very good show and I urge all to check it out. It has the feel of this show!

  • @ChrisPawelski You are right on. Detroit 187 is a great show and it uses the same style camera work that NYPD used. An excellent show. I hope it doesn't get cancelled.

  • @ChrisPawelski ... I have got to agree with you on in the Detroit 1-8-7 is a very good show but, though I hope that is not the case, it may not return next season due to the low ratings.

  • @bxbomb69 That would be depressing. It is such a well written show. So totally reminds me of NYPD Blue in style and in the writing. It's my favorite show now. It would be a shame if it isn't renewed. I caught some of the new version of Hawaii 5-0 and it is total crap. How can that continue?

  • @ChrisPawelski I was extremely disappointed when they canceled 1-8-7.

  • god bless nypd blue!!!

  • Andy is such a battler through adversity , loss being lost and uninlightened to a place of actualisation and peace in 12 years . He awesome mentors who met him half way who too he lost . He is an inspiring character and the show is somert i will always remember while i am breathing!!!

  • Great show...

  • Unfortunately for NYPD Blue it's being slowly replaced by shows like The Bachelor, Dancing With The Stars and the Canadian cop drama Rookie Blue. this is absolute unfortunate and no ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX or cable shows like Army Wives reality or scripted can't match the unforgettable and terrific show NYPD Blue was.

  • @virginiabeach2 but shows like law & order svu are quality and canadian is pretty good too. Well from my point of view anyways .

  • @virginiabeach2 but shows like law & order svu are quality and canadian is pretty good too. Well from my point of view anyways .Thats flashpoint , the canadian cop show , i meant

  • Incredibly emotional scene. This was a terrific show, acting and writing top-notch. Hadn't seen this since it originally aired Feb. of '05 and teared up all over again. Up there with Bobby's death-bed scene. i also feel Kelly's last episode was excellent and Blue was by far David Caruso's best work. Caruso may be on cruise-control with CSI Miami but he hit a homer virtually every time on Blue.

  • @bwh177 yes kelly`s departure and bobby`ys death memorable . Coming back in the vision thing was great as it sorta put closure on bobby`s tragic death that probably haunted Andy for years and propelled him towards more peace and actualisation

  • I watched this series from the start and it never let me down. Especially the earlier season's when Steven Bochco will still producer.

  • No Doubt great scene... This show maybe one of the best shows in my lifetime. Screw all the reality BS.

  • @RayD2430 It sad how the networks give up great shows like NYPD Blue for reality TV bullshit. And they wonder why cable TV is beating them in the ratings. *sight* It not all there fault. I blame the PTC and FFC morons. The last time i check this is America. and if you do not like it then don't watch. Don't your views on everyone else because that what Nazis's do. lol

  • Who designed the costumes for the show? NYPD Sergeants wear blue shirts not white. Only Lieutenants and Captains wear white shirts.

  • Finally, something good happening to him, that will last.

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Excellent!!!!!!!!!

  • I just finished watching the whole series again for the third time and i'm about to start over again. This show will never get old.

  • All I have to say is thank you for posting. Enough said.

  • @Oreckboy1 i copied and pasted your comment along with this video to my FB page. you are so right....

  • Agreed ! That is UNarguably the best scene of NYPD Blue's entire run.

  • Very Cool, and a great show every week! NYPD Blue was as good as it gets, CSI is good, but NYPD Blue had something special? I miss it, most of all the early ones!

  • Go Sipowicz!

  • I remember this episode like it was on yesterday. A sign of respect for Andy and must have been some feeling in the pit of his stomach. i miss the show and why isn't it on syndication any where???

  • This to me was the BEST show on tv. I wish tv would bring more shows like this back.

  • @ftloperry Check out "Detroit 187" on ABC tuesday nights at 10:00 pm. it's awesome, and it's made for those of us who miss NYPD Blue!

  • Great scene...love the look Andy gives himself in the mirror at 0:43.

  • The minuted David Caruso walked off the set, I never watched another episode. Looks like I might have missed out.

  • @flipwiggins

caruso is the same bloody guy in every show

  • @flipwiggins You missed out. Andy was the character that actually evolved.

  • Thank you so much for posting this...Sadly, to think that great shows like NYPD Blue are slowly being replaced by "The Bachelorette" and alike. This kind of televison is dying. We are losing it slowly...but we are losing it...

  • @OreckBoy1

    Couldn't agree more.

  • @OreckBoy1 Well said!!! I agree with you 100%.

  • @OreckBoy1 Check out the new series on ABC at 10:00 pm. It's called "Detroit 187" and it is tailor made for those of us who truly miss NYPD Blue! check it out, let me know what you think!

    Terri

  • @OreckBoy1 I agree. The Batchlorette and others like it are a piece of shit. I don't have cable anymore and relive the past here on YouTube. I'm not saying all TV today is bad but we had more shows worth watching years ago.

  • @OreckBoy1 Damn straight, they recently cancelled Law and Order, that show is an institution! what the hell is going on. Homicide Life on the street, NYPD Blue, Law and Order, where are the writers creating this stuff going?? We do have CSI, but thats all showy glittery crap, when compared to the other court/law dramas I mentioned.

  • @SopeV0point1 try Law and Order SVU

  • @TheTRAVISJUNIOR Am a fan already! I love all of Law and Order franchise, good to see there are people with taste left in the world ^_^

  • @OreckBoy1 Blue Bloods is starting the right way. As is Southland. Two very good shows.

  • @OreckBoy1 Cant you see other shows at this level , like law & order , smallville , the unit ? I mean uk tv sucks , but apart from doctor who and HP does reflect uk culture and life e.g eastenders , coronation st , hollyoaks whatever . Despite the lead actress , I dont like weeds

  • @OreckBoy1 I just want the freaking DVD Set from season 5 on

  • @SilentGuardian75 You and I both my friend. Hopefully, the powers that be will come to their senses one day and give this amazing series the respect it deserves.

  • Americans do the BEST cop shows ever...and this show is truly the Best of The Best..stunning scripts, fine actors of both genders and packed with emotion and true to life, believeable drama. Thank you Mr.Bochco and friends for NYPD Blue!

  • Man I miss NYPD Blue.

  • Awesome scene. Thanks. Was my favorite show all those years. Now I don't even own a tv/screen.

  • It was a beautiful scene. What a great way to end the show

  • I just wish whe Jerry Orbach left Law & Order he got the send off he/Lenny Briscoe desevered just like Andy got here.

  • Amazing scene from one of the best shows ever

  • just reminds us what we're missing.

  • amazing episode

  • By far the best scene from the best cop drama ever to grace our tv screens........Thanks for posting.

  • Cry like a baby every time I see this...

  • Cry like a baby every time I see this...

  • this scene always makes me cry :)
