@RavenousSky Trying to completely rename the file names similar to Windows, where you type "Picture" and they are all named "Picture" with a different number after.
Thank you! I'm pretty novice but this is just what I need to batch rename pictures that came off the camera with the same file names as the last ones off the camera.
You used to be able to simply do this with a right click. Using automator you could make a workflow, then when you selected a group of flies and right clicked, there was an automater submenu on the bottom, which would then allow you to run a workflow on the selected items and rename them. This way is pretty simple, but it was much more intuitive the old way. Anyone know how to do it with a right click?
Helpful up to a point. It is really confusing when you don't actually do all of the steps... saying "well, if I were going to do (this), I would do (this), but I have already done it so I won't do it now" kind of stuff. that's where you keep losing me.
You don't need to include anything in the service to choose files. Just have the Rename Finder Items action set to show when run and the service set to receive files and folders in Finder. Save as Rename.
Now you can select whatever files in Finder, right-click, choose Rename and the action pops up to act on the files you have highlighted.
Much quicker and much more powerful when you consider this can be used in conjunction with Finder search features
So this can't rename the files... only add text before or after the current file names?

@Adel1163 There's nothing to download. Just open Automator on your Mac. It's in the applications folder.

There are shorter and quicker ways to rename multiple files in Automator. This has to many steps.

Thank you for this tip! It worked like a charm. In the past I always had to change them one by one and I dreaded it. You saved me a headache.
