  • Does anyone have a prob sending vids from their phn?? It says it exceeds 300mb and wont let me send videos larger than that??? They are only 45 seconds in lenght????

  • @tiff21xy 45 secs is giving you 300mb on the E71? That doesn't sound right.

  • I'm considering switching to Straight Talk, I would be getting the Nokia e5.

Mind if I ask a few questions?

How difficult was it to port your number over?

How do you get apps from the ovistore if you have to buy them?

Overall, are you happy with Straight Talk?

    Thank you!

  • @KingRuss23 I've had Straight Talk for two years. The coverage great. The phone customer service sucks...typical problems with foreign call centers...they are really polite but can't really understand a damn thing you are saying. The Facebook customer service page will get the job done without making you bang your head against the wall. As long as you sign up for automatic renewal for your monthly service plan you should be happy. The value is excellent. $45 unlimited everything.

  • @fredrva667 Hey thanks man, really appreciate the info.

  • Did you buy this phone at Walmart or did you purchase it right from Straight Talk???

  • They permanently turned my nokua e71 off & I wasn't anywhere near that

  • can u get on face book with that phone

  • @blayston71 yeah you can u can download the app

you can also use it on wifi to

  • like the blackberry; when you recieve a text on this phone does a littl light in the top right hand corner flash?

  • @ksdhdcnm it does but around the navigation buttons bro

  • For everyone who wants to know how to get almost ajy apps on this phone, or on ANY phone almost, go to getjar.com on your mobil web and there ya go!!

(This might not work on really really old phones. Phones like six years old and such, but it might still work.)

  • Thanks for the effort to review this. The phone needs to be STABLE rather than wiggling it in front of the screen. Write a script at least an outline. But still i appreciate the time invested.

  • is there any way you could use skype with the phone?

  • I have this Straight Talk phone new on my webiste for $199 with tons of extras included kevinbro23.Webstore.com

  • @wildcard497 Straight Talk runs off Verizon

  • @yuurmumma no straight talk has three carriers. Sprint, AT&T and Verizon. Call straight talk every once in a while and you will learn something

  • Hi, I was wondering if you were still tethering your phone? Im going to the mountains soon, and I want to bring my laptop, and i don't think there is going to be any wifi, so I want to use Joki. I have the full version, but I don't wanna get shut off. Thanks.

  • i have a question. For some reason when i save certain numbers it doesnt save why is that? plz plz plz help

  • iis there any app or anyway u can do a check in on facebook

  • Can someone tell me the length of text messages on this phone? like when you get a message is it like 15 secs? or does it play the entire clip you assign to your text theme?

  • if you use it as a modem do you still have to keep the data under 5gig?

  • yo i wanna know will this phone work in hampton south carolina?? somebody hit me up asap..like will it work in bluffton columbia areas like that also?

  • Sweet phone. I am glad they started making these for Straight talk because I like the unlimited plan. I also like how you can put apps on this phone. Where else can you get a smartphone for $45 a month?

  • whats teathering?

  • @grizzlymannick

Tethering is when you use your phone as a hotspot and you use other devices to connect to the internet, like your ipod or your laptop. This is a process that is not part of your contract. Most data services are intended only for use of the phone, but not meant to be shared with other devices. Verizon allows tethering for an extra fee and limited data.

  • Would you recoomend this over boost mobile? I currently use a sanyo incognito and i am looking for a blackberry esque cell with good image quality.

  • how do i find fring on my nokia e71 if it dont show up where the other apps be at install part of it im really trying to get fring

  • hey

  • hey do straight talk nokia e71 use go phone att towers or the original att

  • @carloshill76

Dont which towers they use exactly, but you can call customer service. They will know for sure.

  • in response to the guy who says you cant get this phone in retail stores on straight talk anymore, you can in delaware, sussex county to b exact. im getting it in a few days in walmart......on straight talk plan. i currently have the lg900g on net 10 and its locked up tighter than a virgin on prom night!!! VERY disapointing no video....no memory even with a 4gig card. anyone want this phone, ill mail it too you im not kidding ANYWHERE in the u.s:)

  • @TheSmitty1970 who ever said that doesn't look around enough they have it at my walmart in southern california

  • I've seen some people use this instead of a Blackberry. That's quite a savings, actually. I wonder if the functionality is comparable. Can anyone here who's used it comment on that or make a comparison? Thanks.

  • @MyMarbelles

You won't miss your blackberry. This phone is very useful, almost like a mini computer. I installed Google Maps, Opera Mobile and I can access most of my bank websites without a piece of mind. My yahoo and google mails download to my phone. This phone can also play youtube videos.

  • I'm buying it in a few days.

  • okay so it has a camera facing you so can you download skype and oovoo and talk to ppl?

  • @danbearpig1 Correct! You can skype and oovoo, but having unlimited minutes I wonder if it's worth the hassle of using those services. I guess if you want it to skype to another country you will appreciate saving on your long distance bills.

  • more entertaining when hitting 1911 button every 5 seconds or so . . .

  • does this phone have a facebook chat app? im selling my blackberry cus the battery goes out to quick

  • @JUNIOR6289

Yes it comes pre installed with a facebook app

  • I recently bought this phone and paid 6 months up front of service, and so far im impressed.

  • You CANNOT get the Nokia E71 for StraightTalk in Retail Stores ANYMORE! --- You can only get them through the Business Sales Department, If you wish to have a good experience, then I advise you work directly with Holly. She can be reached in the Business Sales Department at 18888879117 at extension 8626 and ask for Holly or leave her a voicemail.

  • @globalque Yes you can, they have it on Walmart.com

  • I've been using the straight talk Nokia E71 with the unlimited talk, txt, and web and it has been great! It depends who you talk to. I advise to work with Holly, call her in the business sales department at 18888879117 at extension 8626

  • Great and informative video

  • @tmobileg I would think all Walmarts would keep that phone is stock cause it's a good seller. Walmart here in my town almost always has that phone in stock. It is a good phone it's just a little to outdated for my use. I really get into web browsing and I do a lot of online shopping. I used an iPhone for the past couple years so going to the e71 is a world of change so I went with the Lg Optimus V just because it suites me better.

  • Walmart still has the e71. I bought mine a couple days ago. I've had a couple days to play around with it. Sadly it looks like I won't be going with that phone though. I've also been playing around with the Lg Optimus from Virgin Mobile. While VM's service isn't as good as ST's, I just like the LG more because it can do everything the e71 can do and much more. Navigation on the LG is kickass and I like the web browsing on it too. Android market is freaking huge!!

  • @bkd2117 I've been trying to find it at walmart but they get very few once in a while. Why is it that you are not wanting to keep the E71? Isn't it a great phone?

  • @tmobileg

I think everybody is infatuated with the iphone, but to me this phone gives me the functionality I need for less than half of the price I was paying with Verizon.

  • @bkd2117 Im glad it works fine for you. The only problem I have with the LG is that it freezes a lot while using applications. I feel the nokia much more robust even though it lacks of the android OS

  • Hey thanks for the info!! I gotta another question for ya. I saw some info that says prepaid customers aren't allowed to hotspot their devices and if they do their service can be temporarly cut off. I know that Virgin Mobile does this too. I noticed you said you used your hotspot a couple times and your service got cut off a couple times.

  • @bkd2117, No network allows tethering. I do know that Verizon allows it, but you have to pay an extra $20 a month I think. I'm not sure about the other networks allowing it with an extra fee per month. My advice to u if you install Joiku HotSpot and use it, is to watch your data usage per month. Try and keep it down to under 5 Gigs per month, and u should stay under the radar. Anything more, may send a red flag up and they will start asking questions and possibly shut of your service or threaten

  • @bkd2117, Also, My service didn't get cut off because of the Joiku app. When I first got my phone (E71), The first week to be exact, My phones service got shut off twice. Both within the same week, Not because of ST, But because At&t was doing system repairs in my area (Towers). That was about 5 1/2 months ago. No issues since.

  • Does this phone have any app that's like Pandora?

  • @bkd2117, Yes. Its called Mundo Radio. You can install from Nokia's Ovi Store. Its free.

  • can you take videos with this phone

  • @danyc09, yes the phone has a camera. The video is taken at 15 fps and records in MP4 format by default.

  • So I was wondering about this. You said you had to pay ten bucks for Joku (the tethering app), even though there is a free version-- but when you buy these apps (or any app for that matter) while using ST, how is it billed? Is it billed through ST or Nokia's, what I assume, through their app market directly?

  • @uknowzjacob1087, You pay through Nokia's Ovi Store.

  • @uknowzjacob1087

everything is billed through the ovi store. You have to set up an account there.

  • I HEARD THAT THIS PHONE IS AWESOME JUST LIKE YOU DESCRIBE BUT I ALSO HEARD THAT YOU CAN ASSIGN RING TONES TO INDIVIDUAL CONTACTS. IS THAT TRUE?:(

  • @jhnsn1, Yes

  • @jhnsn1 What's wrong with assigning ringtones to individual contacts? That's a good thing. Unless you meant to say that it "Can't".

  • @tmobileg Yes Im sorry. I meant to say cant.....sorry

  • @jhnsn1 I havent figured out how to do that yet, but im only on my second week.

  • Do you have issues with your E71 resetting itself? I do when I access the browsers or apps once and a while it will freeze up and reset itself. Please let me know if this is just normal for the E71.

    Thanks

  • @rickyirivera, No I don't have any issues in regards to the phone resetting itself. My phone has getting slower over the past month or so. So I had to delete some of the stuff I had installed onto the phone itself to free up memory.

  • @CSY30076: Were you with ST prior to getting this Nokia E71? And if so did you have to "Internally" port your number over from one handset to this handset?

I've been with ST for 9 months and I have the Samsung R355C (Verizon Network) and I am considering going with your Nokia E71.

  • @tmobileg, Yes I had to port my number from my previous ST phone to my new one (E71). I was using the Samsung r355c.

  • @csy30076 Thanks for replying. I also have the R355C and wondering how long it took to port the E71? I heard it was a nightmare to accomplish this with ST's customer service department. It's so hard to find the E71. I'm afraid ST/Walmart will stop carrying it.

  • @tmobileg, It wasn't a nightmare for me. It took about a day for it to completely finalize and have access to calls and data. And it only took that long because I had the transfer done on the weekend. During the weekdays it should only take less then a couple of hours. Last I checked at my local Walmart, they stopped carrying the Nokia E71. You may have to buy one on Ebay.

  • @LiberalD2's Since your conatcts are in the clouds, it shouldn't be n issue but sometimes google is a ltttle flakey. Overall, this looks like a pretty nice phone, tho. Thanks!

  • opera mini or opera mobile?

  • I wonder why they cancelled or whatever you want to call it just in two weeks??? I have cricKet now and it sucks so if I go with this am I going to be disappointed like I am with cricKet?

  • @MultiSkittles18

I guess it depends on your market and how saturated the provider is. I would hate to tell you that my experience with their service is as good as at&t's. You may want to ask that question locally to get a better idea.

  • My hot spot stopped working I have the priemium joki and when I try to remove it it says file corupted do u have any answers what I should do

  • You don't have to use the Wifi to access the web. You can access the web through the phone just like u would with your other ST phone? It will be alot faster though, thanks to At&t's 3.5G.

  • @csy30076

Does you E71 have reception issues if you hold it a certain way? I've noticed on mine that if I hold it a certain way reception falls. Thanks

  • @rickyirivera, Never had any reception issues. I get excellent reception in my area. Which is Atlanta, GA.

  • hi i was just wondering if the phone needs the wifi to use the internet...or do it like my older straight talk flip phone just use the internet provided by trac phone...i just wanted to know if it needsthe wifi to run the internet....reply asap i reallly want to buy this phone!

  • @bnt4lyfe08

You can use either one. You can set up the phone to ask you every time is going to use internet or you can go by default to your favorite service.

  • Nice informative video. All my contacts are on my gmail account, can I sync this easily?

  • @LiberalD2, You shouldn't have any issues syncing. though I have never tried so cant really comment. Sorry

  • how is the locking mechanism on the phone i have sansung r355c i have to lock the whole phone instead of locking jus my pics&text i dont wanna buy the e71 if the lockin is the same can this phone do callback tones

  • how is the locking mechanism on the phone i have sansung r355c i have to lock the whole phone instead of locking jus my pics&text i dont wanna buy the e71 if the lockin is the same

  • OOps! I meants NOTE to people haha

  • Not to people: Straight Talk uses multiple networks for access, For instance, Any of the phones with a C in it uses Verizon and other phones like this Nokia E71 uses the at&t network. I have 2 phones from ST, my gf's phone Samsung R451C uses Verizon and my phone, Nokia E71 uses AT&T's network.

  • I'm thinking about getting this phone, do you have to pay to get any of the apps? like youtube? And does this phone have a notification thing when you have a text? like the Blackberry has a red flashing light...

  • @2013harley Yes the phone notifies you of text and pic txt messages.

  • @2013harley

no you dont pay for you tube app. Yes this phone has a notification thingy saying you have a message on your phone, whether email, voice mail or text.

  • I'm considering getting this phone. I was just wondering whether or not straight talk handicaps the web browser like they do with their other phones. I am pretty sure i will be getting this phone based on your review. I think the web browser will be the deal breaker though.

  • I bought this phone about 2 weeks ago and I LOVE it !! Even though the E71 is about 3 years old, it still KICKS THE STUFF out of a lot of newer smart phones !!! I'll never get stuck in another contract !!

  • can you get a twitter app on this phone?

  • @omqitscinderella

    Yes, you can get twitter

  • Can you download SKYPE app and use it in this telephone? Thank you!

  • thanks very informative, I was considerin the nokia 6790 from ST or the Samsung R355C but I am definitley going with the Nokia E71 ST , I've been with AT&T for years and cant beat this deal!!!

  • I currently have a BlackBerry Curve & loved it at 1st. Now I hate it. Turns out it wasn't the phone I loved as much as just the convenience of smart phone tech (this is the 1st I've ever owned). My bill runs roughly $100 a month. When I heard about ST, I knew I wanted to switch! Just couldn't decide on a phone. After watching your reviews however, I'm stuck on this 1!

  • how does this compare to the blackberry curve on verizon? i have a curve and mainly use the phone for email facebook youtube and taking video and pics and sending them to facebook would this be a good choice for me?

  • @jaxsmomma13

Yes, you can do all that with the nokia e71

  • Thanks for the Joiku info that was really helpful.

  • do u get a bill in the mail or do u get the 45 cards in stores that work ? theaks reply as soon as posable thanks

  • @mac3788, ST is pre-paid, So u pay first. Then use the service. Thats called "Pre-Paid"

  • @mac3788 You can have an automatic with drawl from your bank account. Or buy the cards they now make longer service periods. That go all the way to one straight year of service. You can find them at walmart or straight talk .com

  • @mac3788 my daughter has straight talk service and i love the service. if they had the iphone i would be all over it. as to your question. You buy the phone along with a plan. At the end of the month you can either purchase another card at walmart or just or do what i do, pay it online. its easy and cheap. Coverage is excellent. if you research it you will see the service is better that boost mobile.

  • Does it run JAVA Apps? It would be a plus if it could so one could download JAVA Apps if they can't find an version that runs on the E71.

I got a CD with a bunch of JAVA Games ans Apps with my $4.00 Bluetooth Dongle and they ran on my LG600g I used to have well I stll have the 600g but it's not active and is just used to run the JAVA Apps I installed on it and also used as a backup for my contacts. It has Bluetooth so I could transfer my contact via Bluetooth if needed.

  • @dallase1, The phone runs Java Light. Not the full Java software. A bummer I know, but still Java Light is fully capable of running most Java required apps. And come to find out not many phones sport full Java. Even alot of Smart Phones.

  • Why did they deactivate your service twice and how did you call them if your phone was deactivated?

  • @dallase1, They didn't say why my service was turned off, but I suspect there was an issue with the service in my area (At&t), not with ST. ST will not say if there is a service issue in the area most of the time cause the provider (At&t) fails to notify them 95% of the time. But when I called about the issue they fixed it under 2 mins, Both times. That issue hasn't happened since and that was almost 2 months ago. I used my wife's phone to call them.

  • the Nokia E71 is way better then any Curve.

  • I hav a blackbrry curve, I'm thinking of going back to straight talk bcaus their srvic tours ar better, and they don't mess with customers, but thank you :)

  • i was gonna ask you, are there any charges$ on this phone, for ex: using gps, or any other app. i would apreciate your answer. thanks :)

  • @Rekic1, No. You pay $45 a month for unlimited voice, text, data (3.5G), voice guided Ovi Navigator and Free At&t 411. There are alot of free apps for this phone via Ovi Store or GetJar.com, but some do cost money. Just like any Android, Blackberry or iPhone would. The only app I have payed for is my tether app Joiku HotSpot. Which is the premium version of the app. The light is free. Please check out my other review videos of this phone. Just go to my channel and watch them.

  • @csy30076 I have 2 questions ! How do I download apps for this phone from GetJar.com & 2 Can this phone access 3rd party "tube" sites on the data plan?

  • @djmars1983 you need to use your pc and a usb cable to install applications outside the ovi store. Just make sure th applications are written for symbian OS

  • @Rekic1

you can install google maps for free or install ovi maps or install both. The OVI maps has the advantage that the maps are already preloaded to the phone, so in case you are in a place where the internet is not available you can still navigate through it. The disadvantage is that maps may be outdated. Google Maps is a better choice for doing all this but it requires internet to work correctly. I guess you can install both and use the OVI Maps when Google is not functional

  • You need to install the Fring app. It allows for video calling, the app is just like Skype but better. Please visit my YouTube channel and watch they other 4 review videos. They answer most of all questions

  • Yes, there is an app that allows you to tether this phone. Its called Joiku HotSpot. Please visit my Youtube channel and watch my other 4 videos on this phone. This video is just 1 of 5

  • I called and straight talk said they don't have video calling? And if you can do it is it over wifi or 3G

  • Oh. Didnt u say there is an app for tethering? I just want to know if i can use this fone for an internet commection on my laptop

  • So, u can watch videos on the phone? Like on youtube and other sites like it. And also, i heard straight talk doesnt allow tethering. How would straight talk find out if u tethhr?

  • @christinerenee33, yes you can watch YouTube videos from this phone and tethering is NOT allowed at ANY carrier. ST could find out if one month your data usage is say 1GB and the next it shoots up to say 5+GB. Then that could send up a red flag.

  • I'm posting this from the phone right now bc I'm cool

  • How much are the Apps? Someone please reply.

  • @Entobment, Which app? there are tons. Most are free, some cost

  • Will skype and pandora work on this phone?

  • Skype will work but not Pandora. They are about to support the Symbian platform though soon

  • Will Skype and Pandora work on this phone?

  • Yes, this phone runs on the At&t network. So if you have bad At&t reception then you will obvisouly have bad service will this phone. The phone is an unlocked version of the phone. Meaning there is no bloatwere.

  • so if this has some of the AT&T features, does it run on AT&T service? As in... if AT&T reception is bad in my area is this phone worth getting?

  • Can you get on the internet with that one with being near a wi-fi like the other straight talk phones?

  • Yes, the phone has Wifi

  • @FloydRoseDiscovery Sweet thanks I am going to buy this phone. I have the slider phone right now I have had it about a year it will be a year on the 24th. But I was thinking about buying this phone and after watching the review I am going to get it.

  • could you please tell me where you got the tether program. prue_42069@yahoo.com. i live out in the sticks and can not get the net out were i live it would be very helpful ty.

  • To get the Joiku Hotspot tether app just go to Nokia's Ovi Store and enter Joiku Hotspot in the search toolbar and Wallah. Install and your on your way. I am thinking about making another video on how and where to install apps for this phone. Cause I am getting alot of questions regarding this issue.

  • I am a huge nokia fan. To this day I still miss my Nokia 6255i That I used up until a year ago...worked perfect for 4 years then fell into the lake one night while I was bass fishing. I am fed up with Verizon, I used alltel since their inception and was forced to use them. I miss Nokia..I miss Alltel....This phone might make me happy again...

  • @G0H0GZ Oh and good review btw.

  • so there isnt a store for apps on the phone itself?

  • You can install Nokia's Ovi Store directly to the phone I believe, if you want.

  • so straight talk sells the unlocked version? im not really sure what the unlocked version is but im just assuming its better. can you explain for me?

  • Really good phone. Really good service. Watch the Straighttalk people who transfer your phone account to the new phone. I had a reserve from before the transfer. When they transferred the phone account to the smartphone (and thus AT&T from Verizon) they hadn't transferred my reserve. Then when they did, I lost 2 weeks of service. It took hours to get this mess fixed by a supervisor.

  • Got cut short but thank you in advance for your time and answers.

  • I have a few questions for you. I've been a hard core blackberry guy for the last 5 years. Some phones are "cooler" droids and iphones but I prefer function over fashion. With that being said here are my questions.

    1. True Push Email, does it have it? Meaning send yourself and email and see how long it take it to get to the handset.

    2. Call log, I hate how droids and other smartphones will not autodelete missed calls once you've dialed the caller back. I take 40 calls a day so this matters.

  • $45 a month a $200 upfront to buy and no contract. Very sweet for full-featured smart phone. Oh yeah!

  • And the Real Player app is kind of ho-hum as a player. Core Player is far better but costs, unless you can get a copy of it with a key gen.

  • some tips: Holding down the * key will enable/disable bluetooth. Holding down the # key will toggle between silent mode and the current profile you have it set to.

If you have more than one app open, holding down the Home Icon key will produce a screen list on the left of the screen where you can select any of the running apps from the list. saves from going through the menus if you leave a running app.

  • There's an internet radio app too, it's just hidden within the menus.

  • The battery life on this phone is excellent. Better then most Smart Phones out there. Also if you install the tether app from Nokia's Ovi store. After installing you should have the option to click the Buy Now icon and pay for it via PayPal or credit card. You should have the option to have a credit card on file with your Nokia Ovi account. This phone is the BEST I have ever had, its worth every penny.

  • also on the teathering app...how do upay for it? credit card? or ur bill?

  • hows the phone any complaints? hows the battery? do u still have it? im thinkin of geting it

  • Can you upload apps from your computer to the E71 phone?
