  • 2:19 lol, epic!

  • All these years I thought mothers were for cooking...

  • Error: Video could not load

    ...

    CONSPIRACY!!!

  • Bought his book after watching this and couple his other videos.

  • I have a LOT of trouble with the IDEA part. I've got the other 7 parts down. I wish he had expanded on how to think of a good idea.

  • LOOK LISTEN THEN DO

  • i can't do it

  • If his idea of success is Rupert Murdoch, does that mean you have to give up all ethical ideas to be a success?

  • @FreePress1000 Ethics is not a prerequisite of success, however success does not preclude ethics =) i.e. they are independent.

  • @Bl4cKeN1nG In the case of Mr Murdoch, I suspect lack of ethics was a prerequisite to his "success", (at least his definition of success). If I was him, I'd feel like a very ashamed failure. He's not someone who should be held up to be emulated, but in theory I agree with you. Having said that, I think that having no concept of ethics, must help with monetary 'success' & probably power, as this would inhibit care and conscience, which would be a great help if you wanted his kind of success! :)

  • @FreePress1000 I do not disagree that in a given case, lack of ethics may have been a stepping stone to "success". However i was just pointing out that it is not necessary (or sufficient) to have a lack of ethics to be "successful". There exists many paths since success can only be broadly defined.

  • @Bl4cKeN1nG agreed.

  • old

  • awesome!!..

  • I will tried to practice these tips.

  • .I am very sad that personal development are not taught in some college or high-school in Africa, we lack of advice to be successful. Thanks to web some ideas like that are opened free to advised people around the world. "if you do it for love money come anyway" Richard St. John.

  • thank you Mr Richard

    for everything...

  • MrJordan, passion is not somthing magical or super as it sounds,it is just a dream or a goal that can motivate u even very little,it is part of life and it should be there in ur life but u just need to pay attention to,good luck

  • I dont have any passion:(

  • @MrJordanConnolly i know how you feel

  • For a good life & meaning try Truth-savescom, also, Robert M. Price, ' The reason driven life ', also mindvendorcom & authentichappinessorg, richarddawkinsnet,

  • Oh, did he mention that for every one it uplifts- it crushes a hundred?

  • Resolve. I did it in 1 word

  • We need a tiger mom.

  • :)

  • Nothing wrong with what was said. But it should be kept in mind that none of this "success" is possible without a booming economy which itself requires abundant resources and energy sources with high energy density, like coal, petroleum & nuclear (but uranium is in somewhat short supply). And let us keep in mind that Bill Gates was a very unethical businessman - its not all rosy in the real world. and sometimes success is due to luck.

  • @rh001YT I soooo disagree based on years of study. Yes Gates is a globalist, eugenics piece of trash. But success first of all is not defined as having lots of money therefore the economy has nothing to do with it, as for the economy end the GD federal reserve and the who;le country will boom again, its called a free market. But if you make bombs right now or medicine your "economy" is booming.

  • @jrc3ky An economy can only "boom" if high density energy is used to change resources into useful products. How else? Horse power can't do very much. Industrial revolution was fueled by coal-to-steam, which ran factories & locomotives & steam shovels. In rural India there is little fuel available, thus no prosperity-the village boy must go to the city to be successful. Good ideas can only go so far without abundant energy and resources. The modern entrepreneur is an artifact of petroleum.

  • @jrc3ky Bombs do not create a booming economy, they are equivalent to burning money - wealth is not created. That same money could contribute to a boom if it was used for something like irrigation, refridgeration or roads. Any state in India can only export non-perishable produce, but in USA, Florida supplies orange juice for the entire nation. More food is more wealth. The regridgeration is supplied by coal and petroleum. There are many orange juice millionaires.

  • fantastic is my reaction

  • very good

  • Allright, cheers, work'n'focus, who would've ever guessed that. This one was rather useless.

  • My video comment youtube.com/watch?v=3zjYJ6uvePM :)

  • awesome vid

  • amazing video!

  • great vid.

  • Thank you.

  • I like this video.

  • This video is useful.

  • I like this secret of success. Thank you Richard St. John

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • Richard you are great.

  • Good tips, but he missed an important one in my opinion: luck.

  • Cool and really down to the point! Funny thing, Charles Haanel's Master Key System teaches exactly that in such detail that those finishing the course and applying its principles cannot but be successful. Fore more, see my channel.

  • very good thoughtful expression and simple explanation to the way to success...thanks...for sharing

  • Thumbs Up If You Tried Watching This In The 1911 Silent Movie Mode!

  • jajajaja that is the reason is existe the mothers XD to push us!! jajajaja

  • Now it's not always easy to push yourself, and that's why they invented mothers xD

  • They pay $4000 to be there watching the exact same thing we do, we don't need to leave our homes and don't need to pay. Who wins?

  • @yehoshua2123 Uhm...because after the video is over, they get to hang around and meet all these great speakers? I've been to a smaller TedX conference - they're GREAT networking opportunities. The best and brightest of your community gathered in one place talking about their ideas.

    It's an awesome environment.

  • 38 people didn't have mothers that drive heavy machinary...

  • bill gates never go to ted

  • @yikyuan actually he went... google it or search utube ;)

  • @yikyuan what are you talking about? He's gone at least twice to talk about education and 3rd world reform

  • Thanks for sharing. The presentation was super great. I hope more people see this! We all would love to be successful and it takes people like you to be willing to share Most people aren't!

  • جميل :)

  • "you gotta persist trough CRAP, meaning Criticism, Rejection, Assholes and Pressur"

    Gotta love that part xD

  • what were the eight words?

  • @b29349 Passion, work, good, focus, push, serve, ideas & persist.

  • @b29349 Word number 4...

  • The real secret to success is having a cute accent ;0)

  • this guy is a dick..

    'tedsterrrrrs'

  • they're paying $4000 to be there and we're watching the TED talks for free... sweeet

  • @Seagerash bro I think he was refering to the cost of air and travel fair, i highly doubt they would charge someone to present.

  • @Seagerash bro I think he was refering to the cost of air and travel fair, i highly doubt they would charge someone to present.

  • @Seagerash The 4000 $ are worth it because it allows you to network?the "performances" are mainly to bring similar people (that are willing to pay 4000 $ for the TED people ideas) into one room so they can meet each other and establish contacts. Also I'm suspecting there will be an open bar...

  • @Seagerash perhaps, but they're probably doing a shitload of networking as well

  • @Seagerash they are paying 4000 for the biggest, baddest, most awesome networking, marketing, and career boosting possibility there ever was or will be, for people in that industry. And if you dont get that, its only logicall you are not there ;)

  • @heephstan no ones going to employ someone just cause they showed up to a TED conference

  • Yes, Bill Gates worked his ass off to get rich, but he worked his ass off because he was genetically wired to do so. Determinism sucks but it's pretty much inescapable.

  • Thank you. Your video is great.

  • love it,... fabulous!!

  • - Having a ton of success, I realize that what he says is totally true...

    - In the beginning he says "I'm going to tell you what 'leads' to success."

  • You also need to know you are innately deserving of success.

  • loved this vid so much i watched it again and wrote everything down ha ha!

  • hjk

  • He forgets the most important one: luck. Pure, sheer, damn LUCK.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer step into reality, there's no such thing as luck

  • @Mu5clehead

"there's no such thing as luck"

Sure there is. Being born with the right genetic make-up already is a matter of luck. Or are you saying that people can choose their parents?

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer what the hell does genetics have to do with human potential, lmao

Unless you wanna be a model or a pro bodybuilder, then genetics do count.

and "luck" is simply a way of looking at it.

  • @Mu5clehead

"what the hell does genetics have to do with human potential"

A lot, if not everything. It's the baggage you get from birth.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer alright, you're being unrealistic and irrational now.

it's like saying Bill Gates got rich 'cause he was genetically wired to create wealth.

But in reality, he worked his ass off for it.

You gotta face the facts, man

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer education and proper care as childs is probably more important than genetics.

  • CRAP. Someone should simply take his 'examples" and do a historical background of "how they got there". The ethics of many would NOT be exemplary. 1st one has to define what success is in the realm of whatever the subject. I contend that most wealthy (if you use that measure) recognized an opportunity to create or obtain a choke point in a new growing industry. An old adage "Behind every great family fortune is a great crime. " I'm NOT saying all are like this, but $ buys PR, coverups, & death

  • I hope this was SUPPOSED to be a parody, because NONE of these attributes has helped me one iota. The notion that, for example, if you have passion for and simply DO what you're good at (etc.) ". . . the money [or "success"] will [automatically] come is at best a half-axiom, and in my cas is nothing but pure, 100% Bovine Stool (B.S.). Furthermore, all "paying your dues" will accomplish is "going bankrupt". This guy is nothing more than a con-artist!

  • @gurch417

is not just DO what you're good at, is STANDING OUT and be the BEST from The Rest.

it was just 3 minutes, so i would add:

    9-Stand out

    10-Become better than good

    11-Do whatever it takes

12-If you cant do what you love, then learn to LOVE what you do.

you can add more to the list. The world is not equal, some get lucky, some are born rich, some lose it all.

    but i agree with @surrrfia

"in a capitalist society If one person/country wins, it usually means a lot others lose"

  • I really loved this concept, and the way he presents it. Everyone should hear these things. If anyone wants to know more about the secrets to success, check out my channel, and you can get my new, free eBook, that is a short but informative summary of the best books on success. Wish a life of love and success to all of you :)

  • Not everyone can be successful i.e. welathy in a capitalist society... Duh, If one person wins, it usually means alot of other people lose.. Tis logical.

  • @surrrfia

I don't associate wealth with success myself, though I don't think I represent the status quo :S

  • @surrrfia then you are not serving, are you? The point of serve is to provide something people WANT. You do it, they want it they get it you both win.

  • this is awesome! very insightful!

  • Thank you, Richard St. John. That is all.

  • This is great and should be played for all our children, who sometimes forget ( well more than sometimes) that things don't just drop in your lap! You need to do all these things and then some to be successful!

  • What a great short video. I would love to see the long version. So simple and I love how even the visuals are simple. Thank you so much for sharing this short and powerful video! I will remember to use these 8 steps to success to empower me to go forward with what I love... this is helping people become healthy with super foods!

  • GOOD vid inspired me

  • drivel

  • Hahaha "Push push push"

That's from the Twilight zone episode ^_^

  • guys with full hands of criticism , they are not paying attention for values of 7 research.

  • So I have to work and enjoy it? Holy Sh*t this guy is a genius! lol give me a break. They have a board at my job where they do employee profiles and 99% of the time the advice is either passion or love what you do. In those exact same words. This is not advice, these are cliches. This would be like a furniture instruction manual just saying "Build it".

  • @robotpanda77 Your post is dripping with cynicism. I would wager that with your attitude, you are not going to be one of those successful people. Richard has it exactly right. Success is not easy but it IS simple and those 8 words are indeed the keys to success.

Perhaps you should consider what all these successful people are saying before you discount it as cliche.

  • If you really think you will ever succeed with the power of a useless cliche, then by all means waste your life. You don't teach someone how to swim by telling them to love it or work at it, that advice forces them to learn everything on their own, and is thus, not true advice. I dsilike this type of thing for one simple reason, it provides false hope and guidance to those that need it most. Snake oil disguised as medicine.

  • @robotpanda77

I'm not hearing the same advice that you are. You're hearing "Love what you're doing now" while I'm hearing "Do what you love." You're right in that the former is an over-used cliche, the weapon of an unimaginative manager, but it's not what this guy is saying.

  • @robotpanda77

I think you misunderstood. And, believe me, I worked in an office were they spent thousands on "Fish Philosophy" have-fun-at-work bullshit just so they could use it as a club to further beat the employees ("See? It's your fault you're not having fun!"). You don't have to love what you do, you've got to do what you love. Sometimes that means putting up with a shitty job to pay for the things you want to do.

  • I still don't think it really qualifies as a "secret to success" though do you? I mean telling someone to do what they like is kind of "duh" isn't it? That would be like the waiter telling me to order what I like. It makes sense, but it doesn't really advance my potential for success.

  • @robotpanda77

Is it a secret to success? Absolutely not. The claim is that it's a common factor amongst successful people. That's logical. If you want to "Succeed" at something you either love it, or you find a way to invest hours of time and tons of effort into something you don't like... which eventually you will despise with all your heart.

  • Quick and concise, excellent message. Short enough to capture a teenager's attention. All you Moms out there, share this with your kids. I'm posting it on my kids' Facebooks!

  • CRAP, thats awesome.

  • i want more and i wanna listen to his 3 hours one.

  • Good, but I believe he missed one key element: You have to have the audacity to believe you just might succeed. You have to have at least a hint of the idea that you have whatever it takes, which I believe everyone does; but YOU have to have the faith that YOU have it.

  • Presentation on acid ftw.

  • good but not enough to success

    it's all ads

    thanx

  • Excellent video.. awesome 8 tips to success

  • I don't think it is as simple as that. If your environment tells you that you can't succeed in life. Then nine times out of ten you won't.

  • @Kiwichico Smart man...No matter what you say, however, most people will give you a thumbs down for such a comment. Truth is something that we seem to run from for some reason...

  • @vortexx76 Thanks for your comment. Well if someone gave me a thumbs down please explain. If you go to a factory in India all of these points would have been met. As for the example of Bill Gates according to Malcom Gladwell, the author of Blink. Gates happen to come across the idea at the right time at the right place with the right contacts. Its your environment that makes a difference. I guess my comment removed hope. But there is hope move to a different environment.

  • @Kiwichico Sorry not Blink the book is called Outliers.

  • What an AWESOME 3 minutes. Thank you so much for publishing this! The man was funny and dead on....

  • I thought this was self-evident, but hey.

YOU NEED HARD WORK, PERSISTENCE AND SO ON TO SUCCEED. CALL THE PRESSES, WE NEED TO GET THIS OUT TO THE WORLD.

Nah, I kid, it's good advice. Just... obvious advise.

  • frolic means to have fun. So a worka-frolic is has fun doing there work.

  • great talk!

i didn't get the "workathrolics" joke though. Can somone explain it to me ?

  • Haha indeed a great talk! He said Work-a-frolics btw ;)

  • Work-a-frolics means people that have tons of fun that are working. It's not a real word. It's just a joke.

  • Thanks draaco

  • Good start, but to be truly successful, you have to adapt to this changing world we live in. This also applies to business of course where adapting or setting the trends is what keeps you on top.

  • "Reasonable people adapt themselves to the world. Unreasonable people attempt to adapt the world to themselves. All progress, therefore, depends on unreasonable people." -Thomas Barnett

    I'll just leave this here.

  • Exactly, be ahead of the curve and create the trends. Same way in Real Estate that you set the market and not chase it. Good quote.

  • "The art and science of asking questions is the source of all knowledge."

I think that getting what you want is success. And, wanting what you get is happiness.

  • I think this is an interesting formula but is in some ways short sighted. One of the major problems facing those who have achieved the level of mastery that would be defined as success is that completely mastering only one thing will eventually lead to some level of failure. Idea's move the world. You need to experience more then just what you perceive as being essential to your goal. This is how great innovations are made.

  • Very refreshing!

Especially the CRAP definition, I will remember that next time I have to "persist"!

  • Comment removed

  • This is what all kids need to hear.

  • No, this is what everybody needs to hear, especially adults, starting with myself.

  • Bah, and again bah.

Success comes to every one in thousand or one in ten-thousand. Some DO work for it sure (although others have it thrown in their lap, or inherit it.) But there is no formula for success.

In fact most people can be happy if they push by comfortably. But lots and lots can work their ass off, do all the right things, and then get laid off and get in trouble in their old age.

True success is just something you get or you don't. No matter what self-help people say.

  • your definition of success is not the same as other peoples. what you define as success sounds like fame and fortune. thats not my idea of success and i think every single person on this planet can be a success. like you say there is no formula and this is because SUCCESS means a different thing to every person and the individual path their life takes.

  • @crafeckinsickofthis I dont think he clearly defines success, rather what leads to it. The fact that he quoted so many people who had fame and fortune might have led to to think that way. Even to be the most successful janitor in a company, he would incorporate most of the things that he just stated. Success simply means getting what you want. I do agree with you that success is different to every person.

  • Comment removed

  • Shavarnarak, i don't totally agree, sure it happens the way u say , but in that case u can't say u never tried it, and that nalone is aa success in a way don't u think?

  • Dude, NOBODY wants to hear that, even if there's more than a grain of truth to it.

At issue isn't a formula for success, it's a formula for maximizing your chances of success. Crossing your fingers and hoping that you're lucky isn't much of a strategy, and most people aren't going to be born into rich families. So, they only have one alternative left open (the work-hard bit) and the advice here will help them to maximize their chances, even if you believe they're still pretty low.

  • We make certain assumptions about how we define success. Most seem to be talking about the success of the bourgeois mindset: money making, prestige, status, etc. Success is possible outside this 'Babbitt' model.

As one example, Bohemian types may be 'successful' and yet have none of those criteria. Alan de Botton talks about this in his book 'Status Anxiety', and there are many others.

  • im ganna be successfull enough to pay 4000$ to watch this vid in real life

  • lol

  • What he forgot to mention is that all successful business men are ruthless in business and sometime they extend their

ruthlessness to other areas of their lives.

Poor professionals with good skills are made to work like animals to fatten these ruthless breed of assholes.

  • What you forget is you don't have the faintest idea what you're talking about. Ruthless assholes come from every sector of civilization - not all businessmen are anything, other than businessmen.

  • You obviously have not read the Millionaire Mind. The premise of that book (a polling among the wealthiest millionaires) is that integrity is seen as the #1 character trait among this group. So stop watching Dallas and JR and buying into the idea that being ruthless is the only way.

  • i think ill be the asshole,

    rather than the poor bastard.

  • perfect steps

    thx 4 sharin

  • Richard Branson and Bill Gates not only had the resources but have great parents. So its best to surround yourself with great mentors and good resources. If you are surrounded by trash you are going to think trash. If you are surrounded by success you are more likely going to succeed.

  • I just watched Anthony Robbins. I agree one needs to take advantage of the resources around them. In hard circumstances some people can rely on their intiative but a lot of people need to be shown how to be resourceful. The reason why people are still poor is because they can't see a way out, no one has shown it to them, not because they are lazy. We can be heavily influenced by great teachers and good parenting. So its best to surround yourself with great mentors and good resources.
