Killer whales may be dangerous, but they're really smart and I love the sound they make. They are still wild mammals no matter what, but this movie gives people dreams... Don't you wish for a moment you could be Jesse too? Hehe.

this story is practically true after year's of captivity people started to wonder if that whale was free now then when he was finally released back into the sea he died because he had lost year capicity because he lived in captivity for so long :/

@Epurope not entirely true. What he lost was the capacity to bond with other whales (dolphins actually, but you get the point right?). So instead of joining a pod he traveled alone for a long time, following ships and visitng harbours, always looking for human company. He lost a lot of weight from both the open ocean swiming and the absense of a pod to help him hunt .But as for survival he was rather succesful. Th reason for his beaching is unclear, but he was a good hunter.

Trailers back then were awful, I mean if this trailer were released now, most people wouldn't want to watch the movie. Thankfully the standards of trailers have improved, if not the movies themselves.

@tamithomas The orca in this film was named Keiko. Ruffles may or may not be dead, as of now, he is just declared "missing". You can see him in the main and ending titles, just look for the male orca with the wavy dorsal ;P Judging from the wild orca footage and the setting of this movie, it did take place in Northwest Washington, right where the J-Pod is. I can spot all my favorite orcas in the main titles: Polaris, Shachi, and Ruffles :D

This is a special movie, the best of the whole series - the first and the one. The moment when Willy finds himself capable to jump over the high rock dam, helped by Jesse's love and friendship and also by the indian incantation of both Jesse and Ray - this is the most impressive moment of the entire movie. It's the apogee of the story. You laugh and cry of happiness. It's my favorite part. I have to say that the soundtrack sustaining this particular moment was the best, underlining it. Gorgeous!
