There is a lot of things that are glamorized on tv that shouldn't be and this is one of them. I believe parents should be talking to their children about the difference between tv and real life. However with all the single parent households i think a lot of teens are looking for that parent they never had in their teachers and its up to the teachers to know right from wrong.
@chair4ever1 look im 16 years old and i think you are really underestimating teenagers. seriously how stupid do you think we are that we cant see the differences between real life and tv come on. its called entertainment. watching student teacher relationships on tv is entertaining as hell but im not stupid 2 the point that i cant tell its wrong in real life just the thought of it in real life makes me sick. we dont have 2 b sheltered from everything bad in fear we might do it
Excellent video! Parents need to discuss with their teens that student-teacher relationships are not at all what they appear on television, but it is in fact sexual abuse.
these are really great points about the media especially since if its illegal and so damaging to students then it definitely shouldn't be advertised on tv and constantly putting those circumstances on shows meant for teens is making matters worse
I would suspect that it's the dynamic of power and authority that makes the student/teacher relationship a common fantasy: You're supposed to look out for me but you can also tell me what to do. In real life this is obviously dangerous and the abuse of power used by teachers to "seduce" students who have to obey their authority is the real issue. It is rarely, if ever, about romance even if you can get the student thinking that it is.
It seems to me that in the glamorized version of relationships like this, the issue is primarily the age difference. Our love is so hot and forbidden even though you're only 6 years older than me so it isn't really that creepy. On television it looks like two adults of similar and consenting age, usually with the man valiantly attempting to resist the girl's efforts. In real life, 16 year old girls look like girls and not grown women and their teachers look like your 40 year old math teacher.
i watch Degrassi all the time. it's probably my favorite show ever! but i know younger audiences watch this kind of stuff and expect that it's ok since someone else did it. and they also want to be in love and get involved in mature things that younger people shouldn't get involved in. but we can't always blame the shows for this, the parents are a huge factor. they shouldn't let their 10 year old watch shows with sex and drugs in it, it gives them a wrong impression. Well anyway, nice video =)
I watch life unexpected and i personally was rooting for Mr. Daniels and Lux's relationship to work out. However, I did want her to tell her parents about the secret relationship so her parents knew what was going on in her life, but at the same time i can understand why she didn't tell them. I realized that what they were doing was illegal and if you think about it.. kinda gross. A teacher is supposed to be there to help students not have a personal relationship with them or date them.

I'm glad someone finally pointed out how disgusting student-teacher relationships are!!! This video should be shown in every high school classroom.
