  • i just think this the most beautiful floor routine ever

  • Robbed :( but I'm glad she finally got her two gold medals in Atlanta though :D

  • 0:14 crapped my pants

  • One of my favourite gymnast of all time.

  • i still remember this routine....watched it so many times that I knew when she changed something. Amazing

  • God, I'm nearly 30 now- I remember watching this routine non stop day after day for years. Glad to see a new generation of gymnasts appreciate this routine (and Ms. Miller) as much as I did- and still do.

  • I LIVE in Edmond, OK! :) They have shrines to her everywhere here. I'm even going to the same high school she did :)

  • I met her at the AT&T American cup she signed my leotard and this is an amazing routine u just don't get grace in gymnastics like there used to be

  • She`s so elegant and graceful--- you don`t get gymnastis like that anymore. It`s sad.

  • her floor routine were always great ! very gracious gymnast.

  • I dont really like modern American gymnastics...but she is even beter that some sovjets!!! best american routine by far :)

  • beautifu routine, but having 2 full-ins is kind of cheap. have some variety.

  • @LMA629 cheap yes but very difficult. some gymnast were doing two double pikes

  • Wow it's so rare to see gymnasts stick all of their landings today.....

Is it harder to stick your landings on a spring mat? Just wondering.....

and she reminds me of nadia comaneci!

  • @xOdreamgiRrrl what she did isn't considered a "stick" anymore. Gymnasts today are not allowed to take a step backwards

  • @LMA629 finally! now we get to see who the true tumblers are :)

  • @LMA629 And for the record that is sooo stupid and ridiculous because it takes away from the artistry of the sport and makes it more unnecessarily difficulty

  • obviously a beautiful routine, but I don't think that one should be allowed to do the same tumbling pass twice (full in); it would have been better to have at least one tumbling run show some twisting or a front tumble.

  • Comment removed

  • @PekoeDeLaRosa666 You have to remember, this was 1992. However, the rules at the time dictated that two tumbling runs could not be the same. However, specific elements could be repeated. You will notice in the first tumbling run, she did a whip through to the full-in, whereas the last one was missing the whip. So while the final elements of each run were the same, they were in fact, different tumbling runs. Additionally, front tumbling was not rewarded at that time as it is today.

  • I miss this gymnastics...before the floor essentially turned into a trampoline.

  • @PhenixJoe In what way did the floor become a trampoline?

  • @darkexcalibur87 the judges don't demand the true dance elements anymore, jumps and leaps have replaced the grace and choreography, so in a sense the floor is a trampoline-esque apparatus because all they do is jumps in between the tumbling runs.

  • It's a great routine, but I find it strange that she did a full-in for her first and third tumbling pass...

  • So graceful and artistic - I still believe she deserved the AA gold that year..

  • ugh she got robbed.

  • Tumbles so fast !!!

  • she repeated the full twisting double back twice... ??

  • Gorgeous!

  • shannon miller is awesome

  • Comment removed

  • They don't have gymnast like this anymore...

  • As much as the big twisting, rotating, flipping skills that complete these tumbling passes are exciting what I enjoy most are perfect back handsprings such as those here - legs tight, great body line and then she has the presence of mind to land in that beautifully balletic swan-like pose.

  • Shannon was ROBBED!

  • Wow, it looks like she jumped in the air and got stuck, and had the spin her way back......lol!!!

  • though im not a fan of the really classical floor music, im so glad she ditched that cutesy "when the saints go marching in" music from the 1991 worlds

  • @LMA629 though i will say i actually like this music because she performs it so beautifully

  • TOP TEN THINGS STEVE NUNNO DID FOR SHANNON MILLER AT THE 1992 BARCELONA OLYMPICS 10. Instructed her that the city is not pronounced ??Barcelonie.?? 9. Bought her?1?3 six wax kits and confiscated all her razor blades.

  • 8. Paid Lu Li $25 to stand next to Shannon so Shannon could set her stress monitor kit on Lu??s head. 7. Turned a blind eye when she and Roza Galieva threw an all-night binge on celery and Tic Tacs. 6. Told her to stop twisting her shoulders on the podium because it makes her look like Ralph Kramden, only 300 pounds smaller.

  • @PLANETIMAGE1 your a fucking liar get over yourself no one wants to hear your crap asshole

  • 5. Repeatedly fielded her question:?1?3 If the Chinese girls are too young to compete here, where am I too young to compete? 4. Kept her away from Svetlana Boginskaya when Bogi was about to take an Advil and Shannon wanted to explain that with faith in God, drugs aren??t necessary. 3. Spoke with a Spanish past-life regressionist after Shannon told him she was the reincarnation of Sylvia Plath.

  • 2. Spent ten minutes playing Mom when Shannon asked him what people used tampons?1?3 for.1. Privately told Dominique Dawes: ??If?1?3 you start crying again and make Shannon cry, I??m going to smear Crazy Glue on the horse before your next vault, and when you stick it, you??re gonna rip the motherfucker out of the ground and get a 6.2 ?C unless Elfie has anything to say about it, in which case it??ll be lower.??

  • @PLANETIMAGE1 None of those were even remotely funny.

  • beautiful.

  • Watching this routine again after many years, I'm still not seeing what was so great about it. She had easier tumbling than most of the other top gymnasts. And while she had nice polish, she seems to scream 'Little Miss Priss' with her style.

  • @luv4cookie1 I'll say it again. Miller's 'attempt' at grace and elegance screams "little miss priss".

  • @gk891 she was attempting nothing. go and watch other peoples routines from that era. she was among the most graceful. and really i'm gonna put it this way... could you do anything that would even come close to being that difficult? appreciate it. because its frikin hard.

  • @gk891 ummm.... that's called ARTISTRY. and that's what made the routine special. and really, her tumbling is just as good as the top athletes of 2010!

  • Like I said, she had good polish and line but her dance consisted of a ton of prissy arm waving. I do not call that artistry. When it came to dance & choreography, I much preferred Onodi, Yang (although her tumbling was even easier than Miller's), Lysenko, Boginskaya (although she had very weak tumbling in 1992), and Mitova. All were far more artistic than Miller in my personal opinion. But if you think Miller was graceful and artistic, go ahead. To me, she screamed Little Miss Priss.

  • name of music ???????

  • i miss this gymnastics.... so artistry, powerfull

  • This music could and should never be used by another gymnast...This is shannons Music for sure!

  • definitley underscored. tatiane scored higher and she had an even bigger step. i dont care if her routine was much more dynamic....it was less consistent and thats what matters. shannons routine was out of a 10, and she deserved the AA gold.

  • Gutsu's tumbling was far more difficult than Miller's and more powerful too . Miller's step was almost as bad as Gutsu's on the first pass, and Miller had hard landings on all passes. If Gutsu was overscored on floor Miller was even moreso. If not taking steps was all that mattered than Okino should have gotten a higher score than Miller on floor even with her simple double backs.

  • her first and last pass was landed beautifully what are you talking about

  • @heninwarrior you are so blind, if you see her first and last pass they are landed lightly, you and all the other crazed gutsu fans don't see clearly or think straigh. It doesn't matter how difficult the tumbling pass Gutsu's step foward should of been 2 tenths and they didn't even take a tenth off, and Just letting u know if you know anything about gymnastics step forwards are more costly then steps back, I mean it's okay you like gutsu better then miller but it's not polite to trash her

  • @TwisterFlipp95 Underscored!?! You are a crazy fool. Easier tumbling than virtually all the other top gymansts, gross form on her full ins with that huge cowboyed tuck, boring presentation and music, and a big step back on her middle pass. She was overscored. Nothing higher than a 9.850.

  • @beckerbombs

if this floor routine deserved a 9.850 then most of tatianas routines deserved no more then a 9.900, especially floor.

  • @TwisterFlipp95 I would be fine with Gutsu getting a 9.9 as long as Miller got nothing higher than a 9.850 with that big step back and overall weaker routine otherwise. Milo, Bontas, and Onodi had far better routines than both of them anyway. If Gutsu had hit her routine though it was 10 worthy with the difficulty and explosiveness of her tumbling. By the way for all the talk of Shannon's form, Gutsu's tumbling form is better than Shannon on floor. Shannon's tuck full ins on floor are ugh.

  • @beckerbombs

I guess I agree but I am still on Shannons side. I'm sorry but that step on Gutsus first pass, her short landing on her second, and her crappy one on the last one just didn't seem like a winning routine.

  • @TwisterFlipp95 umm are we watching the same routine (meaning Gutsu's routine). Gutsu had great landings on her 2nd and 3rd passes. Only her 1st pass was short and yes had a bad landing. Miller's 2nd pass landing was almost as bad though, and her 1st pass even had a big lunge.

  • @selesfan30

They way Gutsu lands on her second pass, stepping forward and her shoulders dropped, indicates that she landed short. On her last pass, she did not lunge back, you could see it. Form and lunge backs weren't deducted. Shannon's only big deduction was on her second pass.

  • @TwisterFlipp95 It doesnt matter if Gutsu has an extra deduction as Gutsu's overall tumbling is far better to begin with. If both hit their routines cold Gutsu would deserve a MUCH higher score and only got a bit of one so the judges did consider their mistakes. Not to mention Miller in no way deserved a higher score than Gutsu on beam just before this, that was a joke.

  • @russianskatingfan acually i hated gutu's tumbling. She did not deserve a 9.925 she was just trying to be a big show off by doing a split legged double layout, and ruining it for herself by taking the step, gutsu was overscored, she deserved a 9.9 so did miller. And beam news flash miller had 2 bobbels stuck dismount gutsu had 3 bobbels step on the landing on her dismount on beam

  • @russianskatingfan

gutsu+miller both did a great job on bars (scored there were fine)

i'm going to have to go with miller on beam, but gutsu did a good job too

floor shannon had some low landing but lunges were allowed then. gutsu overall did a better job, but the deduction for the first step alone was worth .1 therefore her routine should've been lower

vault shannon had an incredible first vault that deserved a ten no matter what you say go and try and find a deduction in it gutsu had bad form

  • @kiwigymnast16 No Miller was not better on beam. She had two glaring balance breaks which were bigger than any of Gutsu's. Gutsu had more difficulty and better amplitude too. It as a joke Miller outscored Gutsu on beam and the beam judges should be ashamed. On floor both had a mistake and Gutsu had far better tumbling so Gutsu deserved a higher score.

  • @russianskatingfan i think in all your comments you over exaggerate just a bit

  • @selesfan30 are you serious? I HATE obsessed fans, miller's first pass had power and elegance and she didn't have a big lunge it was acually small, and it was preformed perfectly

  • @beckerbombs what about gutsu falling out of her turn. did you take that into account?

  • @beckerbombs you're a crazy fool for implying that her routine sucked! it wasn't boring! it was grace and presence, something all gymnasts these days could use. and really, lots of people had the same tumbling as shannon.

  • @beckerbombs some people are really insane but no offense but just because you don't like a gymnast doesn't mean they didn't have a good routine when it was good. And please Gutsu should of got 1.5 tenths off on that step foward a 9.925 was a joke, and you have no right to call beautiful dance and elegance boring, her music is classical and pretty and idk what you where looking at if her presentation was boring. i mean open your eyes, you can state your opinion but u can't go that far

  • how old is she in this video?

  • in the gymnastics olympic trials i saw shannon miller!!! and i saw a famous gymnast like carly patterson or someone and she was singing!! i saw shawn johnson and nastia liukin too!! im lucky i got to the gymnastics olympic trials!!

  • Comment removed

  • Dammit. Shannon should have one. If it wasn't for that step.

  • I think it is right if you put in the athlete who has a better shot to medal and if the only reason they missed qualifying was by something like fluke (eg- a fall). Do you really think Galieva is even close to a better gymnast than Gustu? Of course not, they were not even in the same league. The fall cost Gutsu .5 and she still missed qualifying by only 0.03 around. Galieva was clearly better than Strug at the time but still would have been no higher than maybe 7th in the AA.

  • Comment removed

  • Roza was not better in 1992 than 1996. In 1996 she was a contender for an AA and beam medal, and one of the stars of her team along with Khorkina and Kochetkova. In 1992 she was not a contender for any individual medal. She was the 5th or 6th best Soviet who qualified for the AA by fluke with Gutsu's fall on beam and even Tschovitina's fall on bars. Bogi was never being pulled, that was dumb John Tesh invented drama. Lastly I am not even a Nastia fan so you are talking out of your ass.

  • if shannon didnt take that big step on that double back, she probably could have won. because she was less than a tenth behind Tatiana.

  • shannon shoulda won the gold

  • Such beautiful artistry from Shannon.... the most artistic top american of all time without doubt

  • @sideshowdee i dont know.....Nastia Liukin is pretty artistic too

  • @sideshowdee and nastia i would say, but close nevertheless

  • her first tumbling are AMAZING

  • so Gutsu won the All Around? who placed 2nd and 3rd?

  • Tatiana Gutusu, Shannon Miller, and Lavinia Milosovici

  • thanks :)

  • She and Dawes might be the only two the American WAG ever produced that approached greatness.

  • nastia?

shes tied with shannon with 9 world medals, and the olympic all around gold medalist.

  • Sorry but I disagree with that-Liukin, Shawn Johnson, and Patterson's achievements are nothing to sneeze at. And unlike Miller, Liukin WON her Olympics AA. And in their day U.S. gymnasts like Tracee Talavera, Kathy Johnson, Julianne McNamera and Rhonda Faehn had to battle Soviet bloc judging-but they were great in their own way as well.

  • does any one know the name of shannon's floor music?

  • "The Mail".

  • I miss this kind of gymnastics...

  • I know right? I miss 80's and 90's gymnastics!

  • her angles and body shape through the air and tumbling passes is absolutely exquisite

  • Holy crap, gorgeous.

  • I'm a gymnast from Edmond, Oklahoma too! I even go to the same gym as she used to!!! Dynamo Gymnastics!!!! :D

  • It sucks to get old!

  • I dont know all i know is shannon miller is tha fucking bomb diggaty,, i love this bitch

  • Shannon Miller was amazing in 1992.

But Tatiana Gutsu beat her fair and square (Americans have a tendency to be VERY biased when it come sto things like this).

The 1992 Olympics were of such an amazing standard.

  • Well since Gutsu shouldnt have even been in the AA we have reason to be biased!

  • Actually back then coached replaced gymnasts with other gymnasts into the AA all the time. Not just the Unified as well. Mostepanova was replaced by Shushunova at the 85 Worlds by faking injury. Bogi replaced Lysenko into the 1990 Goodwill Games faking injury. Amanar replaced Marinescu at the 96 Games faking injury. I bet if Strug had beaten out Zmeskal because of Kim's fall (I think Kim barely edged her in scores) the Americans would have faked a Strug injury too. Everyone did it then.

  • Amanar replaced Marinescu because Bela decreed it so-not because of injury, but because by 1996 it was within the rules. Marinescu would not have been allowed to compete in beam finals in 1996 (or bars finals in 1997 Worlds) had she withdrawn due to injury. Bela took her out of Worlds AA for Amanar as well-but unfortunately the rules allow it.

  • Sorry I thought the rules had changed in 97. I wouldnt think even if you pulled someone out by injury they couldnt compete in event finals though. Produnova at the 2000 Olympics was pulled out of the AA for Zamo supposably due to injury (that was the offical word whether true or not), but allowed to compete in bar and beam finals.

In anycase if it was within the rules I dont see why you get so upset about it. You are now saying the rules even allowed Bela to make this choice and he did.

  • Just because it is within the rules does not make it right. It was unethical for a Belu to pull Marinescu (a Bucharest gymnast) from TWO major AA competitions in favor of his own Deva gymnast Amanar. No U.S. head coach would dare pull that crap. The publicity alone would be crushing, and likely lawsuits would follow. Jmo.

  • If it was within the official rules that a coach was permited to do this there couldnt be lawsuits, even in the U.S.

  • You can sue for anything in the States-it doesn't mean you'll win of course. As an instructor at an officer training school told us-in the States-anyone can sue-for anything even if it seems allowed 'in the books'. And they have. Some have won. With a u.s. head coach the greater loss would be in the negative publicity-such a coach would be crucified in the press imo.

  • While Produnova WAS actually injured (fractured foot), she probally was able to compete. Zamo just gave them a better chance of medalling/winnning. Ironically because in hiindsight, Produnova could have possibly won.

  • They should have just pulled out Lobaznyuk then. Produnova and Zamo were BOTH bigger contenders than Lobaznyuk.

  • @russianskatingfan i love how u despise miller but you always end up on her commenting page!

  • I meant 'Belu' not 'Bela'. I get those two spellings confused! Sorry.

  • You really can not be an all around gymnast if you do not deserve to be in the all around. Such as in Gutsu's case she fell on beam in team opitionals therefore she is not an all around gymnast even if she did perform a little better in all around.

  • You're saying Gutsu is not an all-around gymnast because she fell once? Do you think Miller never fell? This is a ridiculous comment.

  • No thats not what I said. Gutsu is most definitely an all around gymnast, I said she did not deserve to be in the all around because she fell, its too bad she fell but thats life.

  • Therefore she is not an all-around gymnast for these Olympics. I did not mean in general. Back at these Olympics it was against the rules to sub in for the all around. So really they broke the rules.

  • I just don't understand why she didn't win. she was much cleaner than gutsu ... explain??

  • Gutsu had a much higher difficulty then Shannon. Shannon was a much better performer but then again Gutsu's moves were twice as difficult. Such as her full back on beam, three back handsprings to full twisting double back dismount and her double split layout on floor.

  • Great routine¡¡¡

  • Lovely, I miss this kind of artistry in gymnastics...

  • Yeah, we never quite see this anyone...with the possible exception of Khorkina and Liukin's floor routines. Joura also has a fun routine to watch.

  • I agree! But I also give props to Anna Pavlova. Her routines are amazing as well.

  • Shannon was robbed of a GOLD! He routine was flawless and shes soo graceful.

  • i met her today

  • Another absolutely brilliant and beautiful performance from the great Shannon Miller, world and olympic champion!!!!

  • I just spontaneously applauded at the end of that routine. It's so, so good.

  • does any one know the name of shannon's floor music?

  • Comment removed

  • This routine should get a perfect 10. It is much better then everyone else.

  • She and Tatiana both had a big step on floor. Miller had way weaker tumbling with less difficulty, less power, and weaker form. Gutsu should have outscored Miller by more then 0.025 on floor. On beam Gutsu killed Miller and should have outscored by by atleast 0.050 and the judges gave Miller the higher score which was retarded. Miller was lucky to even get 2nd over Milo and Bogi.

  • No there steps were basically the same. Miller's step back was huge also. Gutsu was deducted for hers though while Miller wasnt. Miller's two significant wobbles on beam and her big step back on floor were ignored by judges. A couple full twisting double backs is easy compared to what Gutsu, Milo, Bontas, and others were doing. Calling someone retarded is the sign of frusteration and of a weak argument.
