  • Oh my god this was so beautiful!!!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!

  • Awesum job! Lateralus is the most spiritualy uplifting song ever created, I love it, and tool.

I felt the energy you all radiated in that version. Well done.

  • So you're not going to release an album... sadly...

    But what about another song?

I mean this is just outstanding!

    Really!

And many would love to hear more breathtaking covers like this!

  • @Getaro Thanks, but apart from the solo stuff I'm working on it's unlikely there will be any more ensemble Tool pieces. I have the arrangements and this is the only koto group capable of playing them, but like I said after further work I didn't feel that the project was going to reach the standard I expected. It's possible I'll do "Disposition" as a quartet or something easy like that but I wouldn't count on it.

  • @radialaxis Hmm... well okay, thank you for the reply!

I wish you the best for your other projects then.

I'll just keep enjoying this version of "Lateralus" then

    Thanks again!

  • Old meets New, this is absolutely amazing.

  • Hell YEAH!

  • .silent applauds.

  • Total fucking WIN!

  • that was so cool..........

  • This is the most beautiful thing Ive ever heard.

  • kiejoigjdngiudjgdigjdi AMAZING

  • Wicked cool, I liked it very much. Have you thought of throwing in some traditional percussion? That'd be awesome.

  • tool is prolby the BEST band EVER and how you did this is just amazing... alot of other people try to do some what the same with pianos and dont sound anything this amazing...as i listend i could hear maynards voice (the lead singer of tool) if he were to hear this i think he would like it...best if wishes and good luck!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is fucking beautiful. I mean TOOL and JAPAN!?!? I mean cmon this really made my day......

  • That's awesome!

Tool is a great band and your performance is really interesting and delicious for my ears ;-)

  • Is this album out yet? I read that you wanted to cover the whole album and release it in 2011 as a tenth anniversary tribute. If it isn't out yet, how far along is the album?

  • @ecjohnson87 Unfortunately I've had to scrap that whole project as I did not feel that it would turn out as hoped. Regrettable, but there's no point releasing something I'm not satisfied with.

  • :)

  • 3 people are deaf

  • Lateralus

  • This was pure awesomeness!

  • I think in this version, the groups is more sinked-up, they are jiving and are a single, cohesive unit. In the concert version, it's a little out of sink and doesn't have the same power. Both are beautiful, though. Thank you for this.

  • Well fucking done...wow.

  • Hi, I just wanted to say that the woman wearing the allergy mask at the back of the group is from Sendai where the earthquake and tsunami hit the strongest. Please have her and her family in your thoughts. Thank you.

  • IM SPEECHLESS :O

  • Just ... WOW

  • Holy crap are you kidding me! that was amazing

  • awesome sound.as a drummer get you some chimes stand up kind would be descrete and powerfull.would bring out the low sound.keep putting out videos

  • this is EPIC!!!!

  • this is amazing, would be an honoring experience as a guitar player and musician to have this done to their music.

  • Well done! This shows how truly transcendent Tool's music really is. These guys did a great job

  • You arranged this?! Holy dayum! It must've taken you a lifetime! This is pure awesome. :)

  • @MansonFan64 No, only six months. Thanks, though.

  • HOLY!!! this is so freakin amazing....I've always loved the sound of Kotos but Lateralus on Koto...now thats awesome

  • When I was with the band last. I showed them this vidio. They were pretty amazed. And let me tell u fans there next Album is so sick

  • A stunning aural masterpiece...very impressive :) That's the beauty of music; it's universal, and crosses all barriers that humans have created. I've just added this 2 my "favourites" ;)

  • This is just awesome.

  • This is so awesome, i find it hard to put into words.

  • this is better than the original

  • This is simply one of the most awesome and beautiful things I've ever seen or heard. Thank you from the USA!

  • how did you get this??

  • @stacey2stacey I set up my video camera on a tripod and then pressed 'record' before we started playing.

  • its incredible that tool inspires everthing, everywhem everywhere....

  • After I finished watching this I had to wipe off about three liters of drool from my shirt...

    Just wow... you know?

  • Can you do the whole album? :)

  • wow

  • Has "The Triumph Of Progress" been released yet? Are there any teasers here on You Tube? Since I've first heard this, I am drawn to listen to this as if I were a moth to a flame. Coffee, smokes, sugar, & Lateralus on the koto, now I will start my day!

  • simply amazing. Very well done.

  • wow, that is amazing... and unique. really cool indeed

  • Absolutely incredible, if someone hasn't already they should notify Tool about this. I'm sure they'd be really amazed and proud to see how much their music is appreciated by people all over the world.

  • @revolutionday1 She made a mistake dude (it says rehearsal)... you're an idiot.

  • absolutely divine

  • simply beautiful.

P.S. do you have any smaller version of this instrument? ITS HUGE!

  • This is so epic I just don't know what to say. Lateralus is my favorite song ever and this does it so much justice with a unique twist. Too awesome!! ^_^

  • A-HA! U HAVE NO WHAMMY AND THEY ARE NOT USING A PICK ;)

    just kidding, i love it.

  • The concert version of this song I believe was my personal introduction to the Japanese Koto. These eight instruments combined create a layered complexity of sound. These interpretations do Adam Jones' masterpiece absolute justice. Thank you kindly for all of your work for bringing this to our ears. Will you direct us to other "Thinking Man's Music" performed with this Japanese Koto!

  • @onedollarwill Hi, thanks, that's one of the kindest comments I've gotten. I'm not sure what else is available on Youtube, but for CDs I recommend "Koto" by the Sawai Tadao Ensemble (on Denon-the definitive large-ensemble recording), "Three Dances" by Kazue Sawai (arrangement of Cage's prep piano duet for 4 prep bass koto) and "Stone Out" by Tetsu Saitoh (not what it sounds like from the title). Soemon did a just-intonation version of Terry Riley's "In C" too which maybe I'll put up.

  • why are they doing this??

  • @skinnboy1 as opposed to what?

  • Amazing. Well done.

  • This is great stuff!

  • fucking dope!!!!!

  • badass

  • These musicians are fucking amazing! Fantastic translation of the original arrangement =)

  • wow guys. very good version of lateralus. all thumbs up i can give.

  • fucking awesome!

  • @radialaxis need to let people know when it becomes available, and where to download/get it from... this is awesomeness!!

  • awesome!!

  • what an amazing interpretation of an already brilliant song, absolutely magic, incredible musicianship too. I fucken love those instruments aswell, they have such a beautiful tone to them, and a sense of the unknown about them which fits tools music perfectly

  • 5/5/10: Combined with the performance video, the koto versio of 'Lateralus' hit 100,000 views today. Thanks.

  • WOW AMAZING!!!!!!!!

  • Oh my god that is so powerful it's ridiculous. So beautiful! So amazing!

  • @radialaxis PLZ give me a downloadlink! I don't find it :(

    I love this! *****

  • that is truely music ! very nice

  • Is there any way that I can get a professional recording of this track?

  • AWESOME! Great version !!

  • very cool!

  • This is fabulous music! What a great version of a spectacular song!

    I'd love to hear more!

  • epic

  • I wonder what the performers think of the original version.

  • Wow.

I love how they even incorporated the vocals as an instrumental performance.

    5/5

  • Awesome.

  • AWESOME!

  • Awesome. Tool must just love this.

  • EPIC!!! Thank you for that guys, you rule. Somebody show this to Tool, the HAVE to love it.

  • That is freakin awesome. Way to go guys!

  • this is probably one of the most amazing things i have seen and heard

  • i have not seen something this cool in a long time on the internet

  • Thats F'ing Epic.....Those are some acoustic Rockstars right there! How long did it take to arrange that?

  • @Furryscott About six months, but there were a few rounds of rehearsal and revision.

  • realy beautiful, so inspiring..!!

  • great!

  • Simply breathtaking. <3

  • this is easily one of the coolest things i have ever seen, thank you!

  • @huklewill420 all that need is Maynard singing along with it

  • It really shows how complicated the song is if it requires 8 people to play, without percussion, compared to the 4 tool members.

  • genial!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This really highlights just how polyrhythmic and complicated this song really is. I can't praise this enough.

  • It was alright. Great idea. But I think it might have been greater if there were less instruments. Still did a good job.

  • Amazing!!!

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That was amazing

  • This is soooo Amazing and whats even better is this video shows how Influenctial Tool is!

    TOOL todays Greatest Band!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is badass

  • awesome

  • @Teunvdv92

    Nee Teun, nee

  • nine hundred eighty-seven thumbs up.

  • WOW!

  • Nice. A very interesting performance. :)

  • I think Tool needs to incorporate some kotos into their next album.

  • they need to get in the studio with bottrill -- i mean, he IS a world music producer.

  • OMG!! This is amazing!! O_O

  • Simply beautiful... :D

  • I'm going out to get a ninja suit so i can start training for NINJA WARRIOR, this will be on my ipod.

  • I am a huge Tool fan. The first time I saw this video, I was moved to tears. Very powerful and emotional. Beautiful job.

  • pure magic out of numerous strings! : ) thank you!

  • This is Tool song - Lateralus from Lateralus album. Nice, really nice. Original song is not instrumental.

  • i wanna learn the koto =)

  • i love it. welll done.

  • Very very nice. Much respect. Way to bridge cultural gaps with this.

With a video screen and some minor theatrics added, this would make an amazing hour long show.

    Kudos to the crew.

  • that was god damned amazing!

  • Wish i could get this version to my computer also. This one is fucking amazing and sounds so beautiful. two thumbs up for these guys!

  • wow...I just got heavy

  • wow!

  • yes!!

  • this is fucking amazing. Such inspirational stuff man... this proves that music truly is a universal language.

  • i just came....and im at work!!!

  • absolutly astonishing. i bet these guys are psyced that the dudes from tool have seen this since its on their web site

  • wow! Thanks!

  • This is incredible.

  • what is the name of the instrument they are all playing?

  • @dreesdan1 Koto. 6 people are playing the standard 13-string koto and 2 are playing 17-string bass kotos.

  • @radialaxis What makes a koto different from a guzheng?

  • @perfectoblong @perfectoblong Apart from the national origins of the two instruments, the string length, gauge and material, wood, build, picks, technique etc. are all quite different. I'm not an expert on the guzheng but from what I know it's also relatively modernized compared to its historical ancestors while the koto has undergone little substantial change.

  • This is pure awesomeness!

  • I like this version better than the actual performance

  • this is AMAZING!

you guys are really talented :)

  • I reeeaaalllllllly neeeded this, thank you.

    Soli Deo gloria!

  • awesome!

  • thank you so much for this...my body is still tingling and it even brought tears to my eyes...i will share this with many people THANK YOU THANK YOU

  • This sounds fantastic. It's amazing, the use of mostly pentatonic based melodies along with these instruments make this sound like an old Japanese folk song or something... I love it

  • Interesting.

  • すげ~

  • OMG! LOL!!! epic!!!!!

  • WIN!

  • fucking epic.

  • @FaaipDeOaidx462 Sweet name, by the way.

  • great!

  • OMG, awesome!

  • this is so great. i totally appreciate the whole blurp about the fibonacci sequence, i already know about it but i think everyone should know that :)

  • its so damn sappy but this brought a few tears to my eyes thats how much this song moves me, thus is the power of tools music.

  • @darthshitious you guys are awsome!

  • that was sick

  • Music is a divine channel to reach us. It's not about the band; it's about the feeling of all your hairs standing on end and the electrical surge in your spine.

  • I love this song, have all of you listened to the piano cover? That one is amazing as well :D

  • one word..................incredible!!!!

  • they didnt steal from the chinese dumbass.. thier rehearing lateralus

  • WFT!!!! So that's where TOOL gets all the cool jams.... stealing them from nice japanese people... not cool tool... not cool.

  • no dumbass... they are rehearsing tools song...

  • so you're the dumbass that doesn't understand sarcasm?

  • Beautiful!

  • awesome!!

  • What... that was so intense.

  • lol thats pretty crazy

  • nice to see their music recognized around the world and put into what others see in it.

  • I wonder how this came about? why they did it, who chose it were they inspired by it? etc very cool though

  • @cheaptrades Thanks. I chose it. Intuition told me it would work, so when we were picking pieces for that concert I suggested doing this.

  • @radialaxis much respect

  • Very, very badass. haven't listened to Tool in a while, but...this is impressive

  • WOW!!!

  • 1st time ive ever seen the tool website link to a cover of one of their songs

  • @drhbettathanu

Adam Jones has a link to IronGoddess cover of Right in Two on his MySpace, I think it has been linked on the website as well sometime, but I'm not sure!

  • Very good and very special... Thanks for the rather particular version of this masterpeace..
