woah... in the midst of this, you really came out with some excellent ideas... just illusrates how far we are from what would be possible with a truly free society where accountability meant anything.
The reason they won't open it for anyone to win, is that without being a 'partner' they can't tell if you can get a significant audiance/income. So this is simply a bonus to their "best 'staff' members". It's that simple. They know people watch X or Y so improve the video = more ad revenue.
It's effectively a "bonus" or a "promotion" to people who are more or less employeed / paid by youtube and can increase youtubes income. So they choose current people with trackrecords of revenue generation
@danielcomments I say the same thing about campaign ads. Our governments would be less corrupt if we just ignored the obviously deceptive propaganda they put on TV, and actually look up their parties' agendas ourselves before voting.

@danielcomments People who have to know types of info know what and where to look for. THere are not many people who don't know what Intel does, what AMD does, what NVidia produces, what CocaCola makes. We just don't have that great number of newcomers to Planet Earth... and that is for any profession, If you are Gardner - you know what you prefer to use and where to look for other things

NOW Imagine Intel made 1 000 000 CPUs and they had $1 000 000 USD budget for commercials.
THEN I go directly to Intel.com to collect the info I need and don't use the commercial because its POINTLESS !
