I remember the first (only) time I played with Ricky Skaggs. It was just the two of us in his dressing room. I'm not much of a player but he was very gracious. We swapped mandolins for a tune and played Soldier's Joy together.

Back about the time Daniel Boone was coming into Kentucky for the hunting and exploring ,there were two brothers named Skaggs who were long hunters that came into Kentucky too.I believe that was the Skaggs family Ricky is related to.Just a little story I heard here in Kentucky.What a treasure he is to our state.

Monroe was extremely gifted,but I have read where he was also somewhat arrogant in later years,and could be rude to fans.

I didn't see that in him. I spent the week of his last (84th) birthday in 1995 with him on the farm, and he was very nice. Maybe he was puttin' on airs, but I doubt it. He took us to Mallard's for lunch every day and to the Cracker Barrell the Cracker Barrel between Opry shows (Sept. 13, 1995). He was very nice to everybody he came into contact with. He carried a pocketfull of quarters and gave them to very kid he saw.

I've always heard Monroe could be very arrogant, and Ricky Skaggs can definetly be arrogant. Love both of their music. Great musicians, singers, and songwriters. But they were also great Band leaders. From what I have heard, they are both very hard to work for.

I met Ricky and he signed one of my mandolins at the Cherokee Festival. He has always been nice to me when I have been around him.He had to run and get out in a hurry at Cherokee because the crowd was rushing to mob him..I can understand why celebraties have to stay to themselves.What has he done that would suggest that he wouldn't be christian?
