  • Bill Monroe is my Great Great Uncle!!! Love hearing more about him!!!

  • My previous mandolin instructor Inoue Tarou sat on Bill Monroe's lap when he toured Japan. I saw a photo of it.

  • You know ?

  • @91kevinl you are obtuse to music,,nd a total fag....

  • and you can't spell, inbred.

  • @drdaveturbo fuck off inbred.

  • @91kevinl you dont even have a picture of yourself on here, how am i inbred??you just got mad because you dont what obtuse means something is quite wrong with you, your probally just slow.

  • @drdaveturbo AND YOU'RE PROBABLY AN ASSHOLE.

  • Get over it.

  • Great story, y'know.

  • The neighbors in the hood. lol

  • you know...you know....you know.....now I understand....you don't play...you talk !

  • You're not a nice person. to say that

  • I remember the first (only) time I played with Ricky Skaggs. It was just the two of us in his dressing room. I'm not much of a player but he was very gracious. We swapped mandolins for a tune and played Soldier's Joy together.

  • How did you talk him into letting you touch his mandolin

  • @musicianforjesus i have been at both ricky and bills house because my papa played on the grand ole opry with them

  • Well I guess its because he knew you then. Thats cool

  • @station6761 . . . might be a great story, please tell me more. I played with Bill Monroe, Kenny Baker, Josh Graves in Europe. Please check my video's .

  • hey murray, since you're such a pessimist.... check out Ricky Skaggs at age 7 'PLAYING' Ruby with Earl Scruggs !! You still gonna call Ricky a liar?? Shame on you

  • What a wonderful story.

  • this is the mandolin player in the Raconteurs' bluegrass verison of "Old Enough" right???

  • The most talented and amazing human being who blew everybody away when he was just 7 years old!

  • "Ricky Skaggs." man who will go down in histroy!

  • Similar:I was a kid when Jerry Lee Lewis came to Paducah, KY to perform at the JC Civic Center (1962). Local kids liked my band. I walked into the JC Civic Center that night, teenagers began screaming my name. When Jerry Lee delayed calling me up, everone booed until he said, "Hold It, Hold It, Stop the band! Come on up here son!" After one song Jerry Lee ran over to me and said, "Damn you're real good. Keep picking and singing. Ole Jerry lee's your piano player tonight."

  • Keep at Ricky. You make all of us from Louisa, KY proud.

  • six years old.

  • great story. and that monroe would set the kid down without any comment, and go into mule skinner blues is an amazing compliment to skaggs (at five years old).

  • same thing happend to me except bill brought

me on their tour bus i was six playing blue moon of Ky on guitar. My grand father was bills cousin he was from New Haven Ky.

  • amazing story

  • great, but ricky should just tell a little less "you know?" ! ;-)

  • Ricky needs too lay off them sandwiches too

hey, I'm from New Haven too! Howardstown actually.

  • great stuff. im from ky my daddy was from hindman ky in knott county

  • great music and we need more people playing!

  • Back about the time Daniel Boone was coming into Kentucky for the hunting and exploring ,there were two brothers named Skaggs who were long hunters that came into Kentucky too.I believe that was the Skaggs family Ricky is related to.Just a little story I heard here in Kentucky. What a treasure he is to our state.

  • pbr by god

  • Don't be so quick to judge regarding arrogance. This was not the MTV/American Idol generation, where everybody was pampered and hugged when things weren't going right. This was about bread & butter survival. It was also about actual musical talent!!

  • BILL MONROE AND SKAGGS still playing at the wwb - online internet radio - this stuff is hot and never 'goes' away!

    :)

  • i love ricky skaggs music, but as reference to the # of "you know" i counted 19. LOL

  • Bill Monroe, giant of music, gentleman, where did guys like him go??

  • this is too neat. my mother was at that show and has told this story several times. she says that ricky was great then to

  • has anyone counted how many times he manages to say " you know" in this short clip

  • oh hell Bill Monroe was anything but arrogant.........least he wasnt when I met him........

  • Love this interview!

  • Ricky's kinda massive in this one ;-]

    Good video though

  • Great interview, great story! Thanks for posting.

  • You're talking about somebody you know nothing about. You're probably an acid-head who's jealous of Rick.

You've never even met him, have you?

If you think there's something wrong with him, back it up with some evidence or shut up, loser.

  • YOU suck.

  • he does suck and he wont give KENTUCKY FOLKS THE TIME OF DAY

    WHEN HE'S DOWN HERE!

  • @mand0play both of these men have been at my papas house and r really nice my papa was on the grand ole opry with them also

  • Ricky Skaggs interviewed in Prague: tinyurl(dt)com/yqmp5m

  • I think Bill was justing making sure Ricky knew how high the bar could be, I am sure it challenged him to his greatness!!!

  • right - i think ricky was just making a comparison point, i don't think he was dissing bill monroe - i love hearing stories about bill monroe (and bob wills too)

  • Monroe was extremely gifted, but I have read where he was also somewhat arrogant in later years, and could be rude to fans.

  • I didn't see that in him. I spent the week of his last (84th) birthday in 1995 with him on the farm, and he was very nice. Maybe he was puttin' on airs, but I doubt it. He took us to Mallard's for lunch every day and to the Cracker Barrell the Cracker Barrel between Opry shows (Sept. 13, 1995). He was very nice to everybody he came into contact with. He carried a pocketfull of quarters and gave them to very kid he saw.

  • He would probably get tired of people "pushing" at him to "Bill, play this" "Bill play that." Probably a disgruntled reporter said that about Bill.He IS the man of Bluegrass!!!

  • I've always heard Monroe could be very arrogant, and Ricky Skaggs can definetly be arrogant. Love both of their music. Great musicians, singers, and songwriters. But they were also great Band leaders. From what I have heard, they are both very hard to work for.

  • And Ricky is supposed to be a staunch Christian man, too.(!)

  • I met Ricky and he signed one of my mandolins at the Cherokee Festival. He has always been nice to me when I have been around him.He had to run and get out in a hurry at Cherokee because the crowd was rushing to mob him..I can understand why celebraties have to stay to themselves. What has he done that would suggest that he wouldn't be christian?

  • Just going by what a poster said, that he can be "arrogant" and very hard to work for.I would think that he would have kinder qualities.I don't know,it's just hearsay.

  • A Christian is never perfect, just realizes the imperfection and developes a personal relationship with the Lord to discuss the problems. Try it and you will like it. It gives a person a true friend for 'Eternity'.

  • BLogengezer,I have tried it,since the age of 8 so I know about it for myself.I just think that someone in the public eye as Ricky Scaggs is has great opportunities to live out his Christian faith in the face of so many people he is coming in contact with that aren't Christians,is all I'm saying.

  • i wasn't expecting the ending that had.... i don't think he meant to do that. bill Monroe is not like that

  • cool

  • AWESOME!!!

  • You watch yer mouth...

  • Ricky Skaggs is a very talented individual, so was Bill Monore for that matter.

  • Love hearing about Bill Monroe!
