@asteel94 You're looking at it the wrong way... Videos like this ARE education... I've been playing guitar for 7 years and have started writing my first few songs and stuff like this is so ridiculously inspiring... Knowing as much as i do about John Mayer is nice when it comes to songwriting... This and his clinics at berklee and his austin city limits videos are all very good windows into the creative process he goes through....
@aphotosyntheticworld I meant that as joke, as I always end up watching him play instead of doing my maths/chemistry/physics :-) In terms of musical education though, I absolutely agree with you.
I knew it was an EH POG in the beginning, I bought one forever ago and have had it in my loop for the past few weeks, its great to see someone else using this little monster, it does a crazy gritty breakup too, so its not just a clean organ sound.
hey!! where is that part when John writes the "maybe when things turn green again...etc" part and he says to Steve "YOU GONNA LOVE THIS LAST VERSE BLA BLA!!"....damn I love that part =(
sometimes we are channels, and things are sent Thru us... this tune was one of those. I am blessed to have it happen a few times so far this life. great video, thx!
We're always either on the way down or the way up, you never really enjoy the moment when its all put together, because it probably never really is" - JM
@zoot616 Im not quite sure what your point was but John Mayer is probably one of the most talented artists out there at the moment. And that's a fact. Everything in the charts is all synthesised by a sound engineer and then just sung over the top by the artist, who gets all the credit and is said to be "talented". This right here is talent at its purist form.
That guy is good but really.. everyone here wants him to be a legend. He's not (yet) and probably never will. Just a very good musician of his generation. No more legends since Clapton, Vaughan, Knopfler and Hendrix sorry guys... I can't see what is fantastic in his playing. Very good for sure but nothing fantastic really..
@dumbletone Probably never will be a legend? Have to disagree. In all honesty, I haven't been into JM for a while, and definitely not a fanboy. However....25-35 years from now, he'll be referred to as a legend. No doubt about it.
@quicksilvr Yeah, but you know, the problem is that Madona is a lengend too, so... To me, playing known licks (well played i agree) on pop music is not something awesome. Sincerely, if Mayer was playing in small clubs like John scofield, Larry Carlton or Robben Ford (who are true legends) would you say that he is a legend..?
It's amazing how much John inspires me, I'm only 17 and all these other kids are playing super loud and fast with no style! Then I play a slow blues/jazzy feel solo that blows everyone away. Thanks John you're one of my biggest musical influences!
Brilliant. I wish I could afford studio time for a song I never wrote yet :). Lol. But anyways, I really love this type of video. John should really do more of these.
This video is SO rich...watching the creation of In Repair in the studio with JM's commentary is priceless. "Making friends with a song he'd never heard of 6 hours earlier." Watching & listening to JM jamming with his guitar...also priceless.

So so guitar player that surrounds himself with great musicians. Seems the other 2 guys had more to do with composing this song than he did.

So great to come hear the song into existence. You hear parts of it in the beginning of the video, and it's all there at the end. Great!
