It's from the episode "Naked Time" and a sort of virus thing that is transmitted through sweat infects a lot of the crew making them act strangely. Spock gets really sad when he is infected and is crying because he never really told his mother he loved her. They eventually all snap out of it at the end.

I live in Texas and I can tell you that it will take a very long time for this country to accept interacial relationships. I hope we have come a long way since the 1960's, but it sure seems like in some ways we have stayed the same. Some melting pot indeed.
