Parents can no longer complain to kids that the songs they listen to today do not promote sex. This song came out right when HIV and AIDS could have been maintained and reduced. Dope song though. It seems like a song that's not even real.
Man they had a weird sound at this time, but it's a hip dance groove. Some say around this time that The Temps wore overshadowed by EWF and P-Funk at this time.
how stupid are people to say this is about sex without protection...wow the dumbassness of people. "Everywhere there's complication, life is real, so hold on strong, don't let it throw ya, so ride it bare back" . They are talkin about ridin life's problem's bare back......idiots.
@modernity2001 It's called a dance routine, something the tempts always do..... its common sense. u making it more complex then it is. Naivety my ass hahaha
@XCaliber40 This was written by Harold Beatty, one of the song writers with HDH at that time. I played trumpet on this track and a couple others on this album, produced by Brian Holland..
Otis Williams is the ultimate team player. Though he co-founded the group, he never led any vocals or was at the forefront like Maurice White or other singers.
I think Otis may ahve lead a couple of songs. I know he is the lead on "Don't Send Me Away", which was the B side to some song I can't remember right now.
PROVOKEDDESRINY it seems to me if anyone was a tempt they are famous, if you were a tempt you would beFAMOUS,dennis and woodson are still with us,Street, glenn, damon, louis price, BO, THEO, G.C. cameron who is great singer, there are enough ex-tempts to start another group! whichever lineup you like the tempts have had some great singers in that group, and dancers mr 1975tooto, I liked their steps, that!s they way the groups rolled in 1975, checkout the dramatics, etc.
oh I have to respond to my own question... I get it now, the line is "before the shit hits the fan" ha ha... who knew that line was in there? I hate to say it but I love this song... jeeze...
We are in total agreement here. He is my favorite singer and was horribly under-used on this album. I agree with your choice of song too. "Can We Come..." is just fantastic!
"Can We Come..." tremendous song and probably Louis Prices' greatest Temptation lead. Although "That's When You Need Love" was not bad. I still think that "In A Lifetime" from "Hear To Tempt You" was this groups best performance. "Lifetime" is lead by GCL. If someone can find it somewhere, please post it.
Hey acts I do have both albums ,but have not learned how to post yet! I will once I do and will infoform you if I do.Did you know also that Glenn sang with a group in 1973 called the True Reflection? I also have that album! I think one of the best recordings by them with Louis Price was a song that was never released.I heard it on the net by ASKING Louis Price.I do not know if it is available still. I will check and get back to you!
Ron Tyson actually worked on this album with the tempts. he has some song writing and arranging credits on it too I believe. Whats really cool, is Glenn remembers Ron in the studio with them during the recording of In a lifetime, singing Glenn's part to help him learn it. Glenn says he remarked "you know, you could sing in this group!" kind of jokingly. He thinks its funny now, not knowing that Ron would be the one to replace him. Many times Glenn has stated his respect for Ron Tyson.
esta cancion fue cuando the temptations deciden cambiar a motown por otra casa disquera, buena cancion interpretada por richard street exelente cantante
I have to give Mr. Richard Street his props on this tune. You know, I never listened to it before now, but it's a good song.
On another note--Ladies, was Glen Carl Leonard "foine", or what? Louis price was kinda sexy, too. The "Replacement" Tempts are showing their stuff on this one.
Richard Street, was probably in my opinion the most underrated Temptation member. He had no still has a good voice for his age. I think he should've got more leads on songs by himself. My favorites by him are Hey Girl (I like you style), Heavenly, Firefly, and Isn't The Night Fantastic. Y'all can agree or disagree. It's all about opinion and i can respect, value and accept y'all opinion. :)
I tottally agree with you. My favourites by him are Firefly. But his best vocal performance ever you can find on '85 ablum "touch me" song called deeper than love blastin' tune check it out. My favourite temps member is Ali-Ollie Woodson.
no one is aboved the group,50 yrs later the tempts are still strong with essentially two performing groups, bareback is a nice album that was not promoted much by Atlantic records.
The important distinction here is after almost 50 years, the tempts are still strong, and their is a strong and popular tribute group featuring Temptations Ali Woodson and Dennis Edwards. I Idolize both those gentlemen, but saying two groups of temps just adds to the confusion of people going to see the review and thinking they are seeing the temps.
the guy on the far right is louis price. he was only with the temptations for a very brief time when they were with atlantic records. Then theres Glen Leonard singing the high parts. he was one of the best.
i have never seen this performance, but i have to say that i really enjoyed it. it looks like they are having a lot of fun, and richard really shocked me here, the brother was borderline wild back then and showed a great deal of soul, which i had previously said he was too preppy. i loved him in this performance and his singing was very good too.you go temps!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your answering your own post loser. And just like 1975toto said the Temptations sales weren't the same withought Eddie or Damon. That's why no one cared when Glenn Leonard left cause Ron Tyson was also better than hi
Actually 86pimp3, Glenn Leonard was in the group for about 8 years, and Damon Harris was in for about 4. Ron Tyson in my opinion was a little better, Damon and Glenn were on the same level. Eddie topped them all.
Eddie Damon and Glenn are fiery, falsettos. Ron Tyson, however, is a diffent type of falsetto. He's the more silky smooth type, more in the vain of the Stylistics' Russell Thompkins. I think the thing that sets Eddie apart is he can be both more consistently than the others. How many of you know Ron Tyson is the 2nd longest tenured Temptation of all time?
Yes I agree as far as the Tenors go.I know Ron Tyson sang with the Ethics and the Love Commitee and even played in the MFSB band in the studio before his tenure with the Tempts.I am also aware of his longevity with them.I really like them all but I would like to say that after Damon left(not because of)that it just kinda took the wind and sails out as far as exposure and all. Then again whitfield too. Then again we are in different times.I still respect your comment also! God -bless!!
Listen to Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Superstar, Masterpiece, and Come To Me and tell me Glenn was better. Look at their record sales with Damon and with Glenn Leonard and tell me Glenn Lenoard was better. Dude sounds like Mickey Mouse not Eddie Kendricks.
really he sounds like mickey mouse? wow, you are so retarded. Glenn keeps his voice more steadier and higher than Damon, even though Damon has a good voice. you need to listen to glenn's voice again
Oh! joseph210109 Damon Harris was fired from the Tempts in 1975 because he had personal differences between Otis and Berry Gordy, so he was fired. I don't know pretty much of what happened to him after, but he is still living, and he made something that has to do with fighting cancer and he still sing.
Damon was the perfect fit with his Kendrick sound. The others had great voicesbut did not fit the sound mode that Damon did! I always felt Otismade a mistake letting him go.Things were never the same afterwards(sales Grammys, gold records!!
Know your history. The Terry Weeks/Barrington Henderson/Ron Tyson/Otis Williams/Harry Berry group won a couple of grammy's as well. And things didn't go downhill because of Damon's departure as much as Norman Whitfield's departure.
Yes my Brother acts, they did win the Grammys as you stated above.I guess I am showing a bit of frustration and favoritism towards the older singers and members.I know the personel changes got to be too much for me to keep up with so I kinda just stopped following them. All of these guys are great professionals but I guess we all as fans have our favorites(no bashing). We need our Soul catergory back so we can be more exposed to these groups and changes. Music is not the same anymore.
Dennis Edwards was shortly replaced by Louis Price when The Temptations moved to Atlantic Records in 1977. He came back in the group in 1980 when The Temptations returned to Motown.
Melvin Franklin, The Bass singer, and Otis Williams, 1st tenor 2nd tenor and Baritone, are both originals (group founders actually) and are both present. Al, Eddie and Paul left the group years earlier, in fact sadly Paul was deceased at this point.
chibulls7fan, his name is Glenn Leonard, he was with the Temts 1975-1982 I believe. When he left he started a group called Glenn Leonard & The Temptations experience. You can see his interview on the Valley Gold Show
Ditto -- Glenn was amazing. Otis said he and the other Tempts were "knocked out" by his voice on his audition tape. The best showcase of his vocal talent was the 1980 Christmas album. Most r&b stations have had his rendition of "Silent Night" in regular rotation every holiday season for 27 years. That says alot....
I think Otis fired Louis because he wanted Dennis back in, doesn't it seem accurate because he said Louis was fading out fot the picture and it never came down to him telling him he was out the group and at the same time Dennis was calling..
But if you think about this, when Louis joined in 1977, they accepted him and Otis said his voice was innonative and he was a smooth baritone and a good singer, why would all of a sudden he would just say Louis doesn't fit, I can understand about Glenn, and about Richard.
The only thing i wonder is if you read any biography or Otis's book, which I read, Otis never state or explain why Richard Street left the group, or why he fired Louis Price or Glenn Leonard, I wonder if Otis just didn't like them
I think that Otis was pretty clear about Louis at least. He said that both he, Louis and the other tempts agreed that his voice was a very different sound than what they wanted. He said they really liked him but his sound didn't fit. Although a lot of fans disagree with that. But he said they are still on good terms with Louis, it was an amicable split.
On the subject of Glenn Leonard, He says something to the effect of "Glenn started falling out on us during the reunion tour". I took this to mean he went through the same thing that David and other tempts went through of going crazy with partying and stuff. You are right though, nothing was explained about Richard. However, Otis has good things to say about every temp, even ones that were asked to leave.
You are right about Louis and Glenn. in terms of Glenn, he was threatened by Eddie's talent during the Reunion tour. He thought that if Eddie was to join back into the group, Glenn would be fired. Also, there was a wild runor that Richard was responsible for Paul Willaims' death
As I've read Richard had went into emergency surgery the night of one of their shows to remove three kidney stones only to get reprimanded by Otis, and feeling no sympathy from the leader of the group and a long time friend Richard left the group.
The Temptations at this time was Otis, Richard, Glenn, Melvin, and Louis Price. Louis was in the group for 2 years, Glenn for 8 years, Richard for 22 years, Otis forever, and Melvin 34 years. They were on Alantic Records at this time.
However said glenn is the best fasetto slap urself and then slap ur mom and daivid ruffin being the best dancer he sang lead all the dam time so u can't really say i know paul could dance his ass off!!!!
It would be something to see Eddie Kendricks, Damon Harris, Glenn Leonard, and Ron Tyson to have a battle singing Get Ready, it would probably be either Eddie, or Glenn
I think Eddie had an unmatched voice, however, Glenn Leonard was just as good but with a different tone of falsetto. I would've loved to see them a capella face to face
David Ruffin Ain't the only one can dance, Look At Richard. Sorry Youtube users, but Glenn Leonard is the best High Tenor of The Temptations, better than Al Bryant, Eddie Kendricks, Damon Harris, and Ron Tyson.
David Ruffin is not the best dancer in anyway shape or form. Check out the Tempts and the Supremes singing "I'm Losing you" live on Ed Sullivan, I'll let the video speak for its self.
Paul Williams and Melvin Franklin are probably the best dances in the history of the Temps
Thank u. I like Eddie, David n Dennis becuz they can express their songs very well with feelings. Superb trio. Comparatively, Leonard, Damon Harris n Ali-Ollie have outstanding voices too.
Somehow David Street's voice isn't good enough. Think that Motown replaced him with better singers. Anyway,I wonder who that 2nd lead singer is . His voice is clear like Eddie's falsetto but none can ever, I mean, ever replace Eddie Kendricks.
His name is Richard Street, and he was with the Tempts for about 22 years. The falsetto is Glenn Carl Leonard, one of the best ever. Unfortunately we only get to hear his voice around the holidays -- he is singing lead on their version of "Silent Night."
Never heard this Tempts song. Not really surprised. Not one of their best from that era. Richard is amazing though.

Melvin Franklin, The Bass singer, and Otis Williams, 1st tenor 2nd tenor and Baritone, are both originals (group founders actually) and are both present. Al, Eddie and Paul left the group years earlier, in fact sadly Paul was deceased at this point.

So was Al. He died in 1975.

I know and that's very sad. It would be cool if he was still around doing music, he was a great singer from what I've heard.

the lyrics and the dancing to this song are a little vulgar for the tempts, but i LUV it!

DaRottweiler84 4 years ago
he is an incredible singer...
chibulls7fan 4 years ago
chibulls7fan, his name is Glenn Leonard, he was with the Temts 1975-1982 I believe.

Amen!!! And he's good looking too!

Very good looking! One of most attractive of the 22.

I think at this point its 25, believe it or not.

I think Otis fired Louis because he wanted Dennis back in, doesn't it seem accurate because he said Louis was fading out fot the picture and it never came down to him telling him he was out the group and at the same time Dennis was calling..
JSuperiors 4 years ago
But if you think about this, when Louis joined in 1977, they accepted him and Otis said his voice was innonative and he was a smooth baritone and a good singer, why would all of a sudden he would just say Louis doesn't fit, I can understand about Glenn, and about Richard.
JSuperiors 4 years ago
The only thing i wonder is if you read any biography or Otis's book, which I read, Otis never state or explain why Richard Street left the group, or why he fired Louis Price or Glenn Leonard, I wonder if Otis just didn't like them
JSuperiors 4 years ago
I think that Otis was pretty clear about Louis at least. He said that both he, Louis and the other tempts agreed that his voice was a very different sound than what they wanted. He said they really liked him but his sound didn't fit. Although a lot of fans disagree with that. But he said they are still on good terms with Louis, it was an amicable split.

continuation of first comment.
JakeJax 4 years ago
You are right about Louis and Glenn. in terms of Glenn, he was threatened by Eddie's talent during the Reunion tour. He thought that if Eddie was to join back into the group, Glenn would be fired. Also, there was a wild runor that Richard was responsible for Paul Willaims' death
nirrad0791 4 years ago
As I've read Richard had went into emergency surgery the night of one of their shows to remove three kidney stones only to get reprimanded by Otis, and feeling no sympathy from the leader of the group and a long time friend Richard left the group.
jaybob324 4 years ago
The Temptations at this time was Otis, Richard, Glenn, Melvin, and Louis Price. Louis was in the group for 2 years, Glenn for 8 years, Richard for 22 years, Otis forever, and Melvin 34 years. They were on Alantic Records at this time.

However said glenn is the best fasetto slap urself and then slap ur mom and daivid ruffin being the best dancer he sang lead all the dam time so u can't really say i know paul could dance his ass off!!!!
Dymes10 4 years ago
It would be something to see Eddie Kendricks, Damon Harris, Glenn Leonard, and Ron Tyson to have a battle singing Get Ready, it would probably be either Eddie, or Glenn
JSuperiors 4 years ago
I think Eddie had an unmatched voice, however, Glenn Leonard was just as good but with a different tone of falsetto. I would've loved to see them a capella face to face

eddie was the best faselto in the world

David Ruffin Ain't the only one can dance, Look At Richard. Sorry Youtube users, but Glenn Leonard is the best High Tenor of The Temptations, better than Al Bryant, Eddie Kendricks, Damon Harris, and Ron Tyson.
PlayaJ360 4 years ago
David Ruffin is not the best dancer in anyway shape or form. Check out the Tempts and the Supremes singing "I'm Losing you" live on Ed Sullivan, I'll let the video speak for its self.
Paul Williams and Melvin Franklin are probably the best dances in the history of the Temps
fordsucks2 4 years ago
I agree with you:Glenn Leonard is the best first tenor of the Temptations!!!!
whatiship73 4 years ago 2
Cool Glenn Leonard is the best, he was a good replacement for Damon Harris who replaced Eddie Kendricks.
JSuperiors 4 years ago
Thank u. I like Eddie, David n Dennis becuz they can express their songs very well with feelings. Superb trio. Comparatively, Leonard, Damon Harris n Ali-Ollie have outstanding voices too.
berriwine 4 years ago
Somehow David Street's voice isn't good enough. Think that Motown replaced him with better singers. Anyway,I wonder who that 2nd lead singer is . His voice is clear like Eddie's falsetto but none can ever, I mean, ever replace Eddie Kendricks.
berriwine 4 years ago
His name is Richard Street, and he was with the Tempts for about 22 years. The falsetto is Glenn Carl Leonard, one of the best ever. Unfortunately we only get to hear his voice around the holidays -- he is singing lead on their version of "Silent Night."
