Great performance. I love Warren Haynes, he's absolutely my favourite vocalist.
However his voice is powerful in the first place, and this take is kind of missing the haunted touch that the original had.
More or less the same goes for the guitar... I love Warren's style, but it's different than Robin Trower's, and in my ears it doesn't suit the style of the song entirely.

@fiveohforlife what's jerry got to do with NYE? sugaree was absolutely played to death in '08 must have saw it at 7 random shows...every show I went to there was that stupid song...doesn't even make any sense...a total waste of 15 min imho....very disappointed this was voted as a favorite cover. No place for Dead covers in my ultimate Mule set....sorry
@mulefool1 Youll have repeats at shows. at least in our scene you wont get the exact set over and over at different shows. and we wouldnt have the scene at all if it wasnt for jerry, and being that warren was friends with jerry, and also played with the dead, a dead tune seems appropriate in a setlist with a bunch of covers. Plus Id be willing to bed a large percentage of the NE dead heads who couldnt afford to fly to san fran for furthur(90% me included) were at mule or phish.
@mulefool1 Say it again brother!!! I must have heard Warren and Jackie Green do Sugaree atleast 5 times last year alone. Should have replaces Shakedown and Sugaree with some Stevie Ray
@Danycam did not get those...sorry. 1st set I was in row Q. Took some vid from there but don't have a good zoom so they are nothing like my others. Found a friend inbetween sets and I used his ticket to get to the front for the rest. Plenty from DD on the 30th I still have to upload...stay tuned

I love most of their covers, but I think the Mule are at their best when performing their own songs or totally re-interpreting existing ones.
