cool.. by scarring do you mean swales? i cant emphasize swaling enough if one wants to keep the water from running off the land.. swales are ditches on the dead level contour of a slope (all land has slope, you simply measure it with an A-frame), so the water flows into the ditch when it rains and percolates slowly into the soil.
Thnx for sharing. I would be interested in doing more to the yard if I wasn't just renting. Some of your ideas are interesting. I put down some mulch and it made quite adifference. Some of the plants still need transplanting. At least the rabbits won't eat all my dandelions! hahaha!
Wow, so beautiful. The camp i'm working at this summer got one of the former councilors who studied agriculture at university to plan out all these gardens and got some grants to put them through. When I'm not out on trips (i'm one of the two trippers) I'm going to spend my time tending them with the kids and doing sessions on permaculture, deep ecology etc...
Sepp Holzer started way before Bill Mollison did ,and he doesnt call it permaculture but biotope.
Not that important who did what as long the result is similar. And am sure there are still people that need to be discovered.Great work and i too believe in rocks...see ya around
what's it look like now? I bet it's looking good?

Exactly, I think swales are the most constructive thing us humans can do to make a difference.
I am learning lots of variations on the theme of swales. Keep the water close brother. peace!

All that you say here is so true...and when will humans relieze that what they destroy is so needed in the circle of life...
Like you showed here with clover--the earth is cooler under this..
But man destroys....
I really have enjoyed this..
thank you
~peace~

companion planting? enlighten me.... are you a believer in slow releasing nitrogen? we should learn how to mix in our own fungus...

Do you make your own insecticide?
racinkc 2 years ago
Haven't ran into any insects I needed to kill yet, Companion planting seemed to work really well for me.

why do your plants grow so well!!! ?
Kirilltraceur 2 years ago
I think the fungal networking in the soil has a big part to play in the plants success.

"to make the assumption that you know what the plant needs is retarded" u can when u know enough
Sojaofdapepo 2 years ago
This may be true, but in all my studies I have found that few people understand how plants and ecosystems actually function.
For instance, A seed is very small yet a tree can weigh several tons. Where does the mass of the tree come from?
Then you have to look at fungal relationships and interactions, soil microbiology, plant relationships.
I have not found a human being that can really describe these complex interactions in depth, but the plants themselves seem to know all about it.

It has been tried to make an enclosed ecosystem. In attempts to put one on another planet.
However every experiment done was a failure, they don't know why.
So any attempt to help is better than none, as you said, no one knows what ecosystems need, we really just need to back of and let the big ones grow.
Obviously ones in our back yard need help to start.
Nice work man, wish I had a garden, but plan to do some indoor stuff.
