well i job is kinda like kidding napping gordon where he can live where "no one can hurt him, n he cant hurt nobody" (imo i thinkits a coma) then years past n alot of things change when gordon woke up and got teleported in train. Combine came because when you kill the boss at the end of hl1 you accidently opened up a portal for combines to get in :P
