I absolutely hated the format the NCAA put forward for the CWS in 1988 just to get it on National TV. Totally unjust system. I can certainly sympathize with Sun Devil fans as UT went undefeated in the bracket in 1989 only to lose to Wichita State in the final game. Complete nonsense. Thank goodness for the present system. While not better than the original double elimination format, it's better than the crappy system that existed from 1988-2002.
Because of the 21-14 final score in the title game... they finally moved the fences back in Omaha. Thank goodness! What a joke the distance to hit a home run was. It was like a little league field. Now, college baseball needs to get rid of aluminum bats. They are also a joke.
Not to take anything away from USC, but this was before the best of 3 Final series. In 1998, the CWS only played one game in the Finals for the title. As seen in the video, USC lost its first game and then won every other game to advance to the finals against ASU. However, Arizona State was undefeated through its bracket before reaching the finals against USC. It was obviously a bad system when a team with one loss beats a team that was undefeated and was awarded the title based on one game.

@simplygu i agree, but SC still has 12 championships, how come everyone else has less than 6? USC still dominated the baseball world
