I am Tekken player but i used to play DOA 1 and i really like it. Anyway i have a question about DOA ,i ve been reading coments about how DOA was easier... Can you tell me is DOA easy to play ? I guess its not like tekken spending many hours to learn juggles or decent moves? I hope i get answer from person who played both games and has experience with them.
sooo many people say this game sucks, most of them are tekken or soulcalibur fans yet the cant care to explain why it sucks, doa is meaan! i ruv it! <3
you aren't very good at this game, I noticed alot of missed opportunities. Did you know that that sparkly flower pettle air jump roll thing u do all the time can actually be linked into a kick back flip on their face :3
And for me. sorry to say, i really can't find those three in DOA if you'll ask me. Maybe a lil' bit of fun factor watching those boobs jumping and the beautiful scenic of the bikinis of girls (well if you're not naughty) duhh .
SO HOW'S THE DIFFERENCE OF TEKKEN AND DOA GAMEPLAY ?
well, i think it's very obvious to say that Tekken is not just a button smashing, genetically gorgeous in graphics but also concentrates in any angles of elements that game really needs. Gameplay, storyline and the fun factor.
Well, over all. DOA is easy to play dude. As a tekken gamer, I can clearly see the difference of the combo system in DOA and Tekken. I was not able to play DOA 4 but DOA 3 is fun physically not the game-play itself.
Also, the controls really do feel "sluggish" when compared to Tekken 5: DR or VF4: Evo... both of which I prefer to DOA any day
Idealistically and practically, gameplay in DOA is easy. You can't say Tekken is unfair in their combo system like the juggles and the 10 hit combo. These two really maintained the capacity of Tekken as a meaningful, enjoyable, helpful coping resources that a fighting game needs from avoiding nuisance gameplay like button smashing.
Years and generations will pass,Tekken will still be and ever will be as one of the most intensifying and enjoyable fighting game in history. DOA is all about design.
@HardMode88 Hey, I agree with you. Tekken will always be considered one of the best fighting games ever in years to come. The game has a strong fan base. But that doesn't mean I'll like it. As far as me saying tekken's combo system is unfair, I don't see why I can't say it. I've played it before. And I'm just simply giving my reasons why I think Tekken isn't that great. Just like you're giving your reasons why you think Tekken is the better game.
@cridict well, you're not a tekken fanatic. I can also say you're not an expert player of tekken. It clearly states in your words though so it's ok i understand .
@TheDoubleBarrell That's because most people are playing games like tekken 6 and street fighter 4. It is a shame really, because doa4 is clearly one of the best fighters out there.
Alright, but .. button mashing is something complete noobies do. And the chance of accidently taunting while doing a combo and getting your ass kicked by the opponent is great while button mashing.
Then again this says a girl who hasn't played DoA for .. 6 months? (Although I did dream DoA 4 gameplay .. man I hate Hayabusa ..)
@SuperHomieDog Duh, it really shows that DOA players are button smashers. I still salute Tekken for being so brilliant and idealistic towards how the game plays itself esp. the juggles. Just being real here.
In all due respect, some tekken players are button mashers too. Play against an eddy gordo or christie player, and they can beat you with just tapping the kick buttons. Also, tekken's juggles are half way unrealistic. Most of your fast combos don't juggle well. And then you can hit people back in the air after they fall on the floor.
@cridict at least, playing christie and eddy include variety and standardized moves. It has a specific line of combos when executing it as you button smash them. But in DOA, one or two moves of tapping the buttons, it really does complicated when fighting them because DOA moves were kinda unpredictable and vague. Juggles in Tekken were ok for me. Sometimes being unrealistic in a game is needed so as to have creativity and fun factor. That's why DOA is kinda boring and dull.
@HardMode88 I can agree with the need to be unrealistic in a game. As far as being boring, that's just an opinion. Personally, I think DOA is one of the best fighting games I've played. And honestly, I liked it better than I did tekken. Now I will agree that tekken's move list is bigger than DOA's. However, I think the combos connect better in DOA overall. And for me, the juggles work better too.
@cridict well can't debate with that .we have our own different ideas in both games. But let me just clarify you on how you personally like DOA as one of the best fighting games. I have these facts why people really into DOA. There are just 2 things to consider, the graphics and the design of the game over all and honestly,DOA's game play really has no depth to be consider as one of the best fighters. Beyond that, DOA lacks element in story due to the less-detailed personality of the characters.
@HardMode88 DOA's gameplay has no depth? I've heard that before. I'll admit, the story could be better. As far as no depth, there are enough moves in the game to string together combos per character, as well as throws, counter attacks, and the environment, which Namco tried to implement with Tekken 6. As far as I'm concerned, the gameplay isn't lacking in depth. The reason why you're probably saying that is because it's easier to pick up and play.
@cridict you just said so that DOA is easy to play. Gameplay-wise, I really don't consider DOA an in-depth fighter if you're talking about executing moves by just tapping the buttons freely and it only takes easier to perform combos by just doing that. I know DOA's combo isn't that bad but it has just no depth, sorry. Unlike Tekken, the gameplay is very strategic and the combo system including the juggles are very idealistic too just for instance the 10 hit combo. That's what I call DEPTH.
@HardMode88 Oh, you're talking about that 10 hit combo system all the characters have? That's what I call CLUTTER. That combo system for me was not worth learning. Let's say you were able learn a 10 hit combo, which takes a while to memorize. Try to execute that same combo during gameplay. For the most part, the combo will only work against new comers or some intermediate players. Against expert players, they'll know how to block it almost everytime.
Also, in most cases, you'll never really get all 10 hits to connect like you would in practice or against the computer, because you're opponent will be blocking. Somewhere in the combo is a breakage point which allows players to somewhat block the rest of it, unless it was someone like Kazuya, who's combo is unblockable at the end of the attack. For me, this somewhat defeats the purpose of calling the attack a 10 hit combo.
Another thing. I said DOA was easier to pick up and play. I never said easy. There are attacks in DOA that are hard to pull off at first. It took me about a year to figure out Hayabusa's izuna drop throw.
@cridict Easier to pick up and play is the same by saying DOA is just easier to play. Come on, noob can enjoy DOA but not Tekken. They say Tekken is for players who really into a focus concept of fighting. And besides these issues will still fall into same reasons. As for your comments, it clearly shows that Tekken's gameplay is very immense. I never even heard about DOA's getting fantastic comments regarding the gameplay. But the grabbing in DOA really easy to escape and it sucks REALLY.
@HardMode88 Well, to be honest with you, tekken isn't that difficult to play either. I've played about maybe half the players in tekken and found most of their attacks simple enough to pull off. Also, you can't button mash with every character in DOA. Try your luck with Gen fu, Bass, or Leon, and see how many combos you can do by mashing. Now if this was DOA 3, I would agree that the grabs were easy to escape. In DOA4, the escape is much harder and has to be timed.
@cridict Well it really depends to the player even if you think that your opponent is a skilled one, it'll have an opposite reactions to other players. They might be easy to defeat or by chance. Yes, you may win a lot of times with the opponent you face with. The very valid reason is you observe your opponent's move thus making you easy to defeat them. Well, i think they're noob that's why you can say that tekken is not difficult.
@cridict The overall gameplay engine can be fun if you learn the ropes, but the countering system is still not quite right... counters, done in the same manner by all characters, are still very easy to pull off and don't require much skill besides timing with your opponents kick or punch. This time at least there are variations of counters that you can pull off, most of which are visually impressive at least.
@cridict Well, if you are not into the tekken system, most probably you'll quit playing it. The issue here is about being depth in any angles of the gameplay. Kazuya's 10 hit combo can be block. Like i said, you will need an extra timing to block each punch and kick of an opponent executing a 10 hit combo. Essentially speaking, the practice mode has variety of options. The computer can put to blocking mode or even in standing mode then automatically stands or rolls so as to continue hitting it.
@cridict You're totally misleading your ideas about the combo system in Tekken. Players who are average or newbie to tekken really has it's difficulty getting the 10 hit combo. When the player masters it, it will be easier for him to execute. Yes, the 10 hit combo can be block by some experts but it wouldn't be easy for them to block the hit (including parrying) if you can have just a proper timing. Calling it a clutter is very biased.
@HardMode88 If my comments sound misleading or biased, I do apologize. But there is some truth to what I said. In most cases, the 10 hit combos work better against newer players. Most expert players will know what to do when they see it coming. Especially if you're playing a fighter they're familiar with. Now you talk about the combo getting easier to use when mastered. This leads me to a second reason why I hated it. Against a player who knows the combo, now you almost have a one sided fight.
@cridict The player can constantly beat you over and over with the 10 hit move, unless you know how to defend it. And not to mention, most of the 10 hit combos take off almost your whole health. So you have 2 issues. One is having to learn a 10 hitter and it doesn't work well. But when you do learn it, it can work too well. But to be honest, I've never seen all 10 hits actually connect during gameplay. This leads me to question why the combo was put there.
@cridict Well that really depends. You can still defeat an expert player through 10 hits. Yes, they will know some of the moves in 10 hits thus it'll stop you from doing that. Like parrying or hitting low/high moves esp. when crouching. I bet this what you mean. But, like I said it really doesn't matter if you're expert or noob. Players can still make precise timing to execute a devastating 10 hit combo which causes their life bar decrease unintentionally.
@cridict Just for instance, waiting for your opponent to finish his moves is a great timing to start a 10 hit. I can say this is fair. Like in some cases, if your opponent is banged against a wall, you will have a great timing to execute 10 hits while your opponent is still on the ground. Thus, 90% of a chance that you can defeat your opponent. Lol,i am a tekken expert but until now it is so hard for me to defend against a player executing 10 hits when I am being slammed in the wall.
