I was a kid when MTV first came on, and I loved it. The station truly defined the decade in so many ways. It's sad to see what it was degrade into what it's become. What it symbolized belongs to us, those of us who remember it in its glory days, and it's something the last few generations of bad musicians and vulgar stereotypes cannot, and should not, have. Perhaps it's a good thing that MTV will never recapture the identity it once had. It wouldn't be the same.

Liked reading the well-meant comments on here. I miss the old format constantly.

Unfortunately, if you backed whoever's in charge against the wall, they'd make some weaselly excuse such as "Kids don't want THAT anymore/things are different now" or "Reality shows are more cost effective!" or "There's so many other places to get music!"

They'll definitely try to convince you that kids don't care for music at all - it's all about video games.

I am 18 going to be 19 and I WANT TO see more music videos on MTV however, I enjoy SOME shows they show but i do not see the necessity of playing the same show the next hour or day...instead they should show some music videos

#1 MTV will show music videos

#2 MTV 2 will show the shows that are on MTV today and

#3 There will be a new channel called "MTV classic" showing classic music videos fron 80's MTV.

@SamWaterstonFanatic Hey If I were the CEO of Viacom, I would have had all the reality tv show to another channel and have non music related program to a dedicated channel Reality Television. I would also restore the original logo too. This year they mutilated the logo to reflect its new programming.

@nextstep333 YES- half the M is gone now...guess it's them basically saying, "Yes- we admit that we're now only half the station we used to be..." What they NEED to do is to have a separate channel called, "MTV Classic"-- one that plays nothing but all of the vids and shows from MTV's inception up until things went downhill back about early to mid '90s...it'd have everything- the same VJ's as back then, same classic idents, same EVERYTHING we loved about MTV... damn straight I'd subscribe.

I do like VH1 Classic very much. It does get a bit repetitive, but, I'll take it over any of this other trash. I don't even mind that they sometimes play Movies That Rock, although, I can tire of the repetitiveness of that, too. I'll stop watching if they start with any of the "reality" programs, though, sorry. But, yes, VH1 Classic is great!

Yeah I just keep tabs on it. Check the guide every now and then. It seems to have monthly cycles. The first week or so they show new stuff then after that it's repeated for about 3 weeks. Sometimes I'm surprised by something new. It's the only music channel I watch. You know it was MTV that started the reality crap in the first place. Real World and Road Rules. If we only new. Well I haven't a Tardis so I can't do anything about it. Maybe the exects will get it together. Yeah as if.
