@Veggie814 they won´t. Murthag betrayed Eragon even if it wasn´t on free will. He needed to swear an oath to Galbatorix in the old language in which you can´t lie. So he has to fullfill the oath by the magic of the old language. Brom explained it in first book and Murthag also explained it when he fought Eragon.

@loyal2murtagh4ever did he swear on his true name? You can´t lie in the old language and to break an oath means to lie. And didn´t Murthag say GAlbatorix took care for the case of the true name changing. Sorry but the only way Eragon and Murthag becoming friends again is that Eragon blows Galbatorix in to bits. And that´s easier said than done. I hope Paolini finds a way to get around his own rules like the elves do

@princeofpersia873it could not. brom and eragon killed the ra'zac in the movie, that means eragon's motivation is gone, and the ra'zac never go back to interoogate roran and he never brings the village to surda and by extention, never marries katrina and have a baby with her.They didnt even mention Orik, any dwarves or the Twins, which mean... the twins never capture murtagh and kill ajhihad, and so thorn never hatches and eragon never learns about the elunduri' or whatever. See? Plot  Destroyed

This could work for Eragon 2 couldn't it? i mean i LOVE it with Murtagh(aka hotness) but after Garrow's death since Roran blames him and he feels like everyone he loves must die because of Saphira hatching 4 him ...... I think it could work if they ever make a second movie.

Murtagh is definatly the greatest character in the books, because he's not good and he's not bad. I find some of the other characters like Eragon are just too... GOOD. But Murtagh is confused, and i love confused characters.
