  • Thanks Eastview! "Weather friend " and I did a little research and we both agree with you. The duration of the event had not been scrutinized. The video's title/tags/info have been changed.

  • Hi Eastview! I'm no expert, so any further info would be appreciated. We had a "weather friend" look at the AVI(raw)file and he was convinced. :33 looks like a textbook sprite, and :36-:38 a jet. I viewed your channel, read some posts, seems like you know what your talking about. Tell me more about how you came to that conclusion. I'm more reasonable than the folks who think ET shot the shuttle down. :)

  • The duration of a sprite is typically only a few ms, so that in standard video (30 fps) they only show up in one, or at most two, frames. Also, they are very much dimmer than the events shown here, where you have a bright payload bay foreground. Sprites and jets have been seen in shuttle TV images, but not looking down from above, rather detecting them on the limb (distance ~3000 km) against a dark background sky.

  • Nice video, but none of these events look like either sprites or jets. Instead, they appear to be internal illumination of clouds from intracloud lightning as observed from above.

  • is 0:33 red sprites?

  • Cool vid. Crazy we just learned about them in '89.
