It is loaded to lower pressure than the .44 magnum and fires a bigger bullet a good bit slower with slightly more total energy. Its NOT a heavy kicking round, the .44 in a revolver kicks a good bit harder, the .454 casull in a single action makes the .50AE look like a horsefly and the .500S&W even in the behemoth Xframe revolver kicks for ~3x as much as the .50 AE,

Just like not everyone in the military carries a shotgun or a SAW the Israeli army has some people that carry the Desert Eagles for putting down vehicles alot of them carry a second side arm because, as you said the DE is impractical, its especially pointless against unarmored personnel.

Not like those huge revolvers that rely on mass to counteract recoil. Overpowered? Maybe a bit, but let's see the M9 stop a vehicle, even with 17 rounds.Impractical? Nah!

The cases being ejected are RIMLESS cases and both the .357 and .44 magnum are rimmed. The only rimless case for the Desert Eagle is the .50 AE.
