  • Im sorry but im new to characters in cinema 4d how would i add skin to the charcter when im finished adding the bones i cant find a tutorial anywhere could you help me out somehow?

  • @strikeBOXproductions when you bind the mesh to the joints it automatically creates the skin tag as a child of the mesh.

  • "toes" 8D

  • THANK YOU!!!!!! :)

  • 1:42 it looks like spiderman got some competition with his Lycra designs

  • doesn't work..go fuck yourself!

  • @bumtaksi if you have C4D r12, its in the commands section of the character tab, i think you might regret those last words :)

  • if you're not finding bind, go to carachter, commands...its there

  • what's your version of c4d?

    i can't find bind :'(

  • I hope u have time .. can u make a tut on how to make a simple cyclewalk animation .. ? Thanks in advance .

  • The binding tool isn't in the drop down...wat's wrong and what should I do?

  • @TheMegaArchitect You might have a different version. Check the reference/guide book or whatever it's called.

  • @JClayCast No I checked....got the same version.

ps: don't have the reference book ¨(

  • @JClayCast Found the binding tool...... and now I can't click it when i'm going to bind my objects!!!

    ps: It's just gray....

  • @TheMegaArchitect the object needs to be made editable

  • @JClayCast your right its not in R13

  • why the dislikes lol...one of the best tutorials ive seen here on yt

  • Hey, I got this problem. I did select children at root. Then chose bind with the character, and still, I can't move the arms or anything. What do i do now?!?! I'm trying to rig Samus from metroid to build it in Minecraft but first i wanna rig it! Help mee please!

  • Hi! Really great tutorial! Thanks. I just have a small issue when working with this tutorial. After I rigged the character and bind it, I try to rotate one of the body parts, for example the leg, but both the right and left leg will move. I guess I missed undoing the symmetry option for the skeleton somewhere along the way. Although I have no idea off how to fix this issue. I would greatly appretiate it if someone would be kind and help me in this matter. Thanks!

And keep up the good work!

  • @OasisTj Did you mess with the weighting of each bone? I've got a feeling that the left leg's bone is, after auto-weighting, affecting both legs (this happens a lot if they are very close to each other).

  • @JClayCast Hm okay, Well I never started to weightpaint. I just think it looks more like an identical movement of both the legs (or arms or whatever) than weightpainting gone wrong :P

  • @JClayCast Hi! No I didn't even start to weightpaint. I don't believe the issue is the weightpainting since the both arms, legs or whatever I chose is moving identically. Before I bound the skeleton to the body I had the same issue, that whenever I tried to move one of the sleketons, the other one moved identically. This is why I believe it has something to do with the "symmetry" setting. Have any idea of how to fix it? Thanks!

  • @OasisTj Check the joints' hierarchy. I just tried right now, setting symmetry to "Draw" and it worked fine, no mirrored movement. I've never had this happen, so I'm not sure and I don't want to say redo it unless it wasn't complicated to set up. Could, for example, the left leg be a child of the right leg, thus moving the right leg moves the left leg on accident? Unlikely unless you manually moved joints around.

  • @JClayCast Thanks! I will check it out! :)

  • how do I have this doll in my editing screen?!

  • learn maya

  • thank you! now I might reach my deadline

  • awesome man, but when i gonna click bind, the bind option is not avalible (its gray)

the only thing i did different is that instead of import one object of a man i did my stick using shapes, but i dont think that this change anything

  • This Is The Best 3d Tutorial i understad i will sub you plz sub me but even if you dony you are amazing

  • ill do this when i buy my more advanced mind this weekend

  • perfect, thanks for sharing it!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE YOU!!!

  • I bind my objects but they dont stick?

  • Can you make a tutorial about car rigging? I really can't understand the glitch. I followed a tutorial but when I play the animation my car is "exploding" , the tires go in a way , the body parts in different ways.

  • @CrosetezAsfalt I'd have to do some research first, but I'll keep that in mind. At the moment, though, it sounds like you moved the bones or something in an odd way or perhaps the weighting is off, and when the wheel rotates it pulls other parts of the car and spins them out of control.

  • i selected the model and selected children on root, but bind is shaded out and i cant use it. what do i do?

  • @TheBakewell94 Have you looked in the comments - common mistakes?

  • @JClayCast didnt answer my question but i found it out myself.

  • @TheBakewell94 what you did? please share with us

  • @jachvideos change the model to edit mode, i think the shortcut is C

  • @TheBakewell94 what did u do to get bind selectable?

  • Dude, you are bad ass.

  • i cant find the bind option D:

    is there different cinema 4D's?

cause mines cinema 4D studio, i don't know what i did wrong?

  • @demonfox879 What version is it? Perhaps r12? Character>Commands

  • @JClayCast yae r12, thanks allot!

  • hey man u really answered my cuestions Thank you

there are other videos showing this but i didnt get it.

  • Im wanting to add fingers to my hands. I have a template bone set. How do I add on to a bone?

  • @JesusEdits I think you just add the bones as children to the bones for the rest of the body. So, you kinda have the Root bones going to the arm bones, and then add your hand bones as children to the arm bones.

  • what if i have a character with clothes and its grouped (head, legs). i can't use the blind option :(

  • Really great tutorial :D youre awesome and saved my day :D or my night :D

  • LULeg. Rofl.

  • How do I even make a character in the first place?

  • @NotyDesigns Learn anatomy to a certain extent then draw it on paper and trace it in the program. I've made character in the past just by modeling but they turned out totally random because I didnt have a reference.

  • thx a lot <3

  • haha. 6:00 ..comes out of the body. Proper place.

  • For some strange reason, I can't bind =S

  • how to make graphic like that?(mine graphics of the 3d model are all blacks and transparent)

  • Wouldn't it be much better to use a visual selector rather then find a bone through a cluttered list?

  • i figured out that if you CAN'T rotate and what-not: be using the model tool.

try that. and if you still don't got it..? idk. :I

  • Why i can't use bind?

  • thanks mate...very helpfull............... i think we can do the same thinks for a face....but we have to work in the weight.....

  • To all the guys who can't click on bind - If you have NURBS parented to a model, then DON'T select the NURBS, select the model only (which is the child) and now it should work :) Worked for me. And if binds isn't there, then go to Character > Commands.

Oh and thanks a lot for the tutorial man. Live saver!

  • Holy shit, i can not thank you enough for this video!

  • bind isnt clickable, any idea why?

  • the bind button isnt there?

  • i cant click on bind ?

  • how do atchully ge th guy from te site im afraidi carnt do it i tride to use another figure alread in the systembu tha ailed :/ could eone hep me please

  • Works now! :-D Thnx.

  • It seems like there has been a conspiracy by the Germans to keep good c4d rigging tutorials from the English speaking world... way to fight die Mann! lol

  • @PeeyanoKeys Irony is, I'm German. :)

  • @JClayCast

    My character does not bind!

  • thanks man, very useful for me :D

  • Comment removed

  • Could you make a tutorial or private message me on how to add armour, clothing and items to a rigged character model, please?

  • Press "R" on your keyboard. I assume you mean you don't get the rotate tool that rotates the bones? See the highlighted button at the top-left of the screen that looks like two circular arrows pointing in a loop? That's the rotate tool. Next to it is a square (scale tool) and a cross-like arrow (move tool). I hope this is what you asked, otherwise I'm stating the obvious. :)

  • Buen video! Muy útil!

    Muchas gracias! un saludo like

  • Question.. its very simple. I am a total noob but I did everything you said and binded my characters structure.. But I don't know how to move parts 8:56 - 9:20 When I click it, it doesn't show a circle around it to move it like you do =/ how do I get that? I am sorry if this is to simple. But I just don't know how and google is no help.

  • What program can you use to make meshes?

  • I have a question what if your character has multiply parts to and is not a simple character like this one what should I do because nothing happens when I try to bind the character with the joints so I tried to put all the parts like the leg parts and what not of the character inside the joint parts instead of Binding them but that does not really work either.

  • @Mastersun88 make one skeleton/rig the encompasses the entire character. Then, you'll have to do the weighting (setting bones to the mesh) to each object individually. E.g. you wan two bones to move a box and sphere. set the bones the way you want then, then rig them to the box, and then rig them to the sphere. From there, you do the weighting for each object individually. There might be other ways, this is how I've done it.

  • great tutorial, very well explained. Much appreciated, sir..

  • @Treknn meh well i was just useing it as a test

  • you sound kinda like seananners

  • now i cant even select bind =.=

  • @NothinsM umm. . . restart. (best tip ever, huh? :D ) I can't seem to recreate the exact problem, which makes me think you forgot something really basic, like edit mode or something simple like that. Those are the most common errors and make everything really confusing.

  • @JClayCast well im useing the basic model that comes with cinema 4D for practice. i line up the mode land joints

    made it editable

then i go and bind it. works ok. now i rotate and the frame moves but not the model.

  • @NothinsM Check: is the model editable (press C when model is selected). Did you add joins separately to the model? When adding joints, make sure the model isn't selected so they are made children of the model. Did you select both model and joints to bind? If so, I have no clue. :)

  • @JClayCast even if they end up as children of the model i just switch them out. if i select the right joint with the part of the model after i make it editable i can get it to bind and move. but if i select everything. it wont

  • I got it working, but now every time i try to get the symmetry working it doesnt. Then i switch root null off, and it works but the other side is like 1000 times bigger and doesn't even rotate but a few degrees. Any help?

  • thanks

  • wassup doc?

  • Where do u download this from

  • Does anybody know how to merge objects into 1 ??? I cant add joints to multiple objects to make only 1 skeleton PLS HEEELP!!!!

  • @playaN3 Make sure the objects are editable (press C when object is selected), go to Functions>Connect. Viola.

  • @JClayCast Some of these things that you are doing in this tutorial is done differently in R12, and I dont know how :/ are you planning on making an r12 tut?

  • @Brickkks Send me a PM and I can fix it for you. I assume you can't find some of the menu commands.

  • are you using r12?

  • @Brickkks Yes, but my tutorials are still r11.5

  • i have never really understood how to bone rig befor but now i do thanks alot. XD

  • cant find the option "bind"

  • @9gustav6 if your useing r11.5 its in character then commands then you should see it

  • No Dislikes, Yeaaaa bitchhh

  • Thank You So MUCH! I have tried to find tutorial about this exactly same thing and i havent found any. You saved my day :D

  • @tecnopro90000 Glad I could help. Any other tutorials I could make?

  • @JClayCast Well if you have time, could you tell me, how to rig a more complicated character. Like Darth Vader. He has many parts, and i fail to rig them all. He can be only be moved from a one place.

  • @JClayCast yes! how let the hands move??

  • @TheLegend9O Rig them - simple answer. I might make a quick tutorial for that, but it's basically putting "bones" where real bones in real hands go.

  • thx

  • Where can I get characters like this and others? Also is there a way to make your own character? If so can you do a tutorial on it?

  • i like how his cursor is on the croch like half the vid hahaaa

  • How you import that character in cinema4d?

    please comment back

  • @Nba926 Go to File > Open. C4D loads tons of 3D files like .obj (the most basic) and .fbx. It won't load 3Ds max files.

  • "do do dopular dequests"

  • I can't find the "bind" key? My drop down menu, ain't that long..

  • @Congressive I assume you have Cinema 4D r12? (what version?) It's under Character> Commands

  • @JClayCast Yeah it's there.. Thank you :-)

  • hey really nice and helpfull tutorial but had the same problem as Congressive, cannot find BIND tool. im using r12, spanish version so... in Character> Commands is that the second option?

  • @soronefabrik1 Yeah, the icon looks like a joint pointing to a rectangle.

  • what did you scale the model to in cm?

  • @GeNaCiD3zHD I didn't rescale it - I just opened the one I got.

  • @JClayCast i have cinema 4d r12 and iv rigged all my model and done all that stuff but your model is only on polygon model and the model i've got has 5 polygon models such as the head, chest, legs etc. and its not working when i try and animate my model :/

  • @GeNaCiD3zHD Hm, yeah - I don't know how to bind multiple individual objects with the same set of bones at once - you can attach them and make one object, or just select all the bones and Bind them to each object separately, then weight them and it should work.

  • when I do like you do, symmetric putting out the joints, I can only change the right arm and leg, I cant rotate the left one cus there is no joint for selecting it?

  • @woahbre nvm I figured it out thanks

  • This is perfect, thank you :D

  • dude im begging u make a tutorial on modeling a person

  • cool

  • @SceneRecreation PolyCount Wiki - if you can't find it, PM me and I'll send you the link.

  • wats better 3ds max or cinema 4d

  • @TheBerserker305 That's for personal preference. I don't know much about 3Ds Max, but C4D is very easy to learn and get started with, and you'll be able to come back to it a lot, though it does lack a few minor things that other programs have (such as Autodesk). Get trials of both and compare.

  • @TheBerserker305 3DS Max But Cinema 4D Is More Easy To Learn I Suggest U Start With Cinema 4D Thats What Im Doin XD

  • wats better 3ds max or cinema 4d

  • Thank you!

  • Vewy vewy subtle

    Chawacter

    Pweferences

Oh, I fucking love how you talk.

It reminds me Leo and Satan cartoon

  • Could you help me also, love the tutorial but around 8:15 in your tutorial when you click bind, I don't even have bind on the character down scroll thing. I can't seem to find it any where.

Btw my scroll down thing is only half as full as yours also could you please help me out?

  • @RealTDragon What version do you have?

  • @JClayCast R12

  • @RealTDragon Character>Commands>Bind

  • @JClayCast Thanks man really appreciated, I would of saw it earlier but it was grey and not optional. I'm still figuring it out.

  • Comment removed

  • "bind" is unclickable for me. It's an icon, minus the color. Please respond.

  • @TheKolarisClan Could you be more precise? The only thing I can guess is - did you select all the bones and objects? Is the object you are binding "editable" (that is, in edit mode - you can make it editable by clicking c or going in the function menu). The editable issue is the most common one. . .

  • @JClayCast Yes, I forgot to convert it into an editable object, and it worked after I did it.

  • At last an easy to follow tutorial on character rigging thank you very much, it's now in my favorites.
