I fear this unit will be used very very seldom because some people won't find it cost effective at all to waste time harassing and just make actual units. Didn't this happen to the reapers?
@ccisnotatree But once they hit med-late game, it's logical to stop making reapers. It's usefulness is generally in early game to harrass and do early pushes, but they become useless against tier 2 units and onwards. That's what I'm saying, these new units become too specialized for early jobs like that and we'll see them seldomly used in long macro-games.Also I'm in the Quidditch League.
@UnstableUranium I'm a Diamond Terran player. I use Reapers all game long, in small quantities to pressure my opponent and keep him in his base. For only 50/50, they're extremely cost efficient when it comes to pressure. Make 3-4 of them and you'll instantly have map control all game because you can expand/focus on army while your opponent is stuck to defending his base from Reaper harass.

@UnstableUranium Sorry for the late reply. Honestly 3-4 spine crawlers already makes the reaper worth the cost. How much are spine crawlers? 75 minerals? 100? 225-300 minerals plus the drones to make them PLUS the queen per base to defend against one unit that costs 50/50 sounds pretty cost-efficient to me, especially if it's 3-4 reapers. Just by doing that I've already done damage to your economy without even doing anything.

Reaper is 50/50 and Spine is 100; 150 if you are the type to include Drone cost but to me stuff like Drones and Queens should already be a given. Anyways if you make one Reaper and he doesn't make a spine he's on top; if he overreacts your on top.

if you can use the phase shift ability on your own buildings you could technically save a nexus since the buildings under the affect cant be attacked, which would come in handy for expos

The Carrier being cut is probably one of the worst decisions Blizzard made. The Mothership should have been a Hero Unit, instead of a unit weaker then the Carrier.
I'm excited for this. When used in conjunction with the warp prism, you could do drops a lot better and not worry about turrets. Your opponent never would be safe from drops. Ever. Unless they had ground unit anti air. Also, being able to see what is being produced is also really good, and so is the mineral line blockage.

Is it just me or are they making the Protoss less exciting? Getting rid of both the Mothership and the Carrier?? For this and the Tempest (which Toss didn't need since it's AA is fine)? Who knows. It's early but can't say I'm too pumped for the new Protoss units (looking right at you too, Replicants). Hopefully they opt for something else.
This unit certainly does open up doors for new strategies. I can't wait to drop sentries in my Zerg opponents main and then forcefield the ramp while raping all his drones with the oracle messing up the minerals

I don't understand why they had to cut the Mothership, because this unit doesn't substitute the Mothership AT ALL.
Why couldn't they just cut the Phoenix? Why are there 2 Protoss units used for harassing the mineral line, and why would you need 2 Protoss air units to counter Mutalisks?

This unit will have a huge impact on SC2; as a Toss player, I am happy I will have a quick, easy harrass unit. As it is now, DT's and multi phoenix cost too much to do enough damage for me (for me)... it is nice to know I'll have more than just drop ship play (compare this to the cheap, effective harrass of Zerg and Terran).

Warp Prisim drop some DTs and use an oracle to shut down the [Spore\spines, cannons\nexus recall, turrets and pf's. shut down a whole base with 2 oracles a warp prism and 3 DT. GG. unless you want to treat the oracle like a reaper and never send it in with support! and now the reaper has LESS use with no fast building snipe.

@OnlyKoolaid i think the usefullness of these units is to stop ur opponents economy or buy you some time to be ahead of your opponent. As you can see it can lock the mineral fields down and no workers can mine from the patch being locked.

Ok, so protoss players can't double chrono their buildings, zerg players can't double inject larva, but terran players can drop ALL their mules AT ONCE. I find this unit extremely useful and adding it into the game sounds sick good if you talk about balance, because come on, mules use up NO supply, so in the late game scenario, when you have 3 or more bases and you're maxed out, you can dispose of most of your scvs and rely on MULES for mining.

@Potts132 Get evapoted by colossi and HTs, lategame zerg tends to spam spine crawlers and if these things shut them down, zerg's at a disadvantage. Also early game zerg won't have an army until threatened - that's how zerg's played, it's a reactionary race for a reason. Lastly, how can a zerg attack if his base is under threat from phoenix/voidray and oracle? If zerg stays - deathball comes, if zerg leaves, he loses his eco and dies anyway.

The minerals force field abillity doesn't seem too useful, although maybe in a really even game it could get you ahead. With the stun buildings though you can take out the mass spinecrawlers late game Zerg get and maybe use it on Terran bunkers.

If you micro this unit well, will be godlike game decider. Forcefield all minerals, thats 0 minerals income for enemy and its just energy(free)!!. This unit will be expensive I think, that could balance a bit.
I love how in selling this new protoss unit all he can talk about is how happy the protoss' opponents should be that it's "worker friendly" and that if they wait a few seconds or send in a few units to clean up those forcefields everything goes back to normal. As a protoss player, why would that make *me* want to use that unit?
@mjemerso this is much easier than killing units, and the other main imba-eco killer, the brue frame herron has already been cut down on quite a bit so it's not the game ender it once was - with this unit, short of bumping into someone's army and getting destroyed, you have GUARANTEED economy interruption. The heart of all harass techniques is to keep flying in and making life hell, provided they price the unit and it's spells, it's going to be about as essential to toss as the viper is 4 z.

@mjemerso What if your opponents army is in the middle of the map and you slip a few oracles into their main and natural shutting down their mining, that's a lot of minerals gone and your opponent has to reposition his army to clear them if he wants to get back to mining asap. This can then let you move in for the kill whilst their army is out of position; or even harass another expo with DTs are zealot warp ins from a warp prism.

Templar tech is always used, and robotics is always used as well, so a DT drop is nothing, on 2 base or more. adding a stargate and building an oracle or two will never hurt. and if all the pros say the unit sucks then Terran get it in LotV! @OnlyKoolaid Did you hear the video? It's meant to be used alone. And if it's what they're trying to achieve as an economy raider for early to mid game then you can't add DTs on. I'm not saying that's possible but that would be very expensive which the oracle isn't trying to achieve.

By all means, use the oracle alone.
they say to use it alone so it will not be part of the death ball, and that is the only thing they want you to know.
if a zerg wants to lay down 20 spines late game an oracle can phase them out, and the spines will buy zerg no time. deathball addition complete.
Blizz created the oracle and shredder to not be a deathball unit.

@OnlyKoolaid i think the usefullness of these units is to stop ur opponents economy or buy you some time to be ahead of your opponent. As you can see it can lock the mineral fields down and no workers can mine from the patch being locked.

@JegolS don't mind them, they're all below gold level. they don't watch professional level play because if that was the case, they would all realize how insanely useful this unit would be ESPECIALLY with the high level multi-tasking and the quickness of SC2 pro-gamers. i'm definitely looking forward to see korean protoss' use this unit to their advantage

Ok, so protoss players can't double chrono their buildings, zerg players can't double inject larva, but terran players can drop ALL their mules AT ONCE. I find this unit extremely useful and adding it into the game sounds sick good if you talk about balance, because come on, mules use up NO supply, so in the late game scenario, when you have 3 or more bases and you're maxed out, you can dispose of most of your scvs and rely on MULES for mining.

@Potts132 Get evapoted by colossi and HTs, lategame zerg tends to spam spine crawlers and if these things shut them down, zerg's at a disadvantage. Also early game zerg won't have an army until threatened - that's how zerg's played, it's a reactionary race for a reason. Lastly, how can a zerg attack if his base is under threat from phoenix/voidray and oracle? If zerg stays - deathball comes, if zerg leaves, he loses his eco and dies anyway.

The minerals force field abillity doesn't seem too useful, although maybe in a really even game it could get you ahead. With the stun buildings though you can take out the mass spinecrawlers late game Zerg get and maybe use it on Terran bunkers.

I love how in selling this new protoss unit all he can talk about is how happy the protoss' opponents should be that it's "worker friendly" and that if they wait a few seconds or send in a few units to clean up those forcefields everything goes back to normal. As a protoss player, why would that make *me* want to use that unit?

@mjemerso this is much easier than killing units, and the other main imba-eco killer, the brue frame herron has already been cut down on quite a bit so it's not the game ender it once was - with this unit, short of bumping into someone's army and getting destroyed, you have GUARANTEED economy interruption. The heart of all harass techniques is to keep flying in and making life hell, provided they price the unit and it's spells, it's going to be about as essential to toss as the viper is 4 z.

@mjemerso What if your opponents army is in the middle of the map and you slip a few oracles into their main and natural shutting down their mining, that's a lot of minerals gone and your opponent has to reposition his army to clear them if he wants to get back to mining asap. This can then let you move in for the kill whilst their army is out of position; or even harass another expo with DTs are zealot warp ins from a warp prism.
