I just bought one and can't wait to pick it up. I needed it because the internet has so much information on PDF file formats i want to look at and read but i hate sitting at a computer desk because of my back it would be nice to lay down and read those PDF files
ok great... 400 bucks...the books should atleast be free or cheaper than the paper version since no trees are being harmed lol and 0 time goes into distributing the books.. you could get a good 20 books for that price.
that god awful black-then-white refresh thing drives me up the wall. I was literally in the sony shop with the cash to buy one. the sales guy suggested I play with the one on display... and within 2 mins i wanted to smash the f**king thing!
While the concept of this reader is good, in that a touch screen eliminates the need for too many buttons and allows for easy highlighting, the problem is that it was poorly implemented. The addition of the touch screen reduced the contrast and makes for a lot of glare. That detracts for the overall clarity of the eInk screen, which defeats the whole selling point of eInk. Maybe they will address this issue and come out with a low glare, high contrast touch screen in their next model.
Ya, they seem soooo close to the perfect reader with this one. So close, but not quite there. I can't justify the price tag at this time, so I'll sit tight and wait for the next generation.
I think this should be a must for students. Especially college students who have to lug around heavy and expensive books. I think the possibilities are endless of what you can get out of these devices. It already plays audio so what if some of the books you get have little sound bites of information attached?
I think it would be an incredible learning experience rather than just having to read text all the time. Hopefully the future models will include all-color graphics.
...which would be great if the Sony store offered up-to-date text books. I'm waiting for a day when eBooks are as common as hardcovers; then all books (including university text books) will ship with e-copies on CD or with a code to download it from the publishers website. That's when buying an e-book reader will be worthwhile. Not before.
the backlght comeon if u press it and it helps if u are in the dark u can read the book ask me more Questions if u need to but the ebook reader is really good and amazzing
The main drawback is the tiny 6" screen... pretty much useless for PDF files, let alone normal text. 8" is the minimum needed for a letter or A4 sized PDF.
Also, the irex iliad has hand writing capability, not just a touch screen.
Too bad the touch-screen doesn't allow annotations like on the iRex Illiad, and too bad no WiFi nor HSDPA built-in for reading the Internet, blogs and more.

Look at the contrast of the screen. Huge step down, even if you compare it with 505! Im definately NOT going to buy something like this.

It looks backlit. I thought the idea was to make reading like reading a book, easy on the eyes, with no backlight!
I've been looking at various ereaders and don't like what I've seen of this one.
muskndusk 3 years ago
You can turn off the back lighting. I personally find it to be better than kindle. Reading is still easy on the eyes.

When will it be released for the UK? And how much? ANyone know?
TheFemaleDurden 3 years ago
The screen seems a bit reflecting, isn't it? Think I'll stay with my 505.
Astorcd 3 years ago 2
The display is more reflective than the 505's because of the extra touch screen layer. Definitely stick with the 505.

sullivanl 3 years ago
The reader can resize and reflow the text on pdf files, which means you can easily read pdf documents on the 700.
