so according to that guy on the left, we should play with a "safety net" that kicks on when we play. so when we start to play and change dynamics, it compresses it? that doesnt sound good at all....
This is the part Im stuck on, trying to master songs requires limiting and some compression, the problem is it can take the life right out of the music but without it you cant drive the levels nice and high. This is why people that can do this well get paid, its a real art.
for those struggling to understand compression - imagine you're watching a movie on the tv, and the commercials come on - the volume suddenly jumps up. You grab the remote and lower the volume. You turn it up again when the movie comes back on.
nice that you talk about it, but it would be way nicer to just show us how things should be done! I already bought a mic and I want to start recording!! :d
it's the most misused tool by mastering engineers today. i buy a modern CD, rip the music and simply look at it in Audacity or something and i'm just like O_O
thanks for the video guys. I've been watching these video's and hoping to learn where to start with my recording. Do you guys plan on doing a setup anytime soon and showing how you adjust your mics, levels, etc.... I'm really interested in learning this.
Hey guys! I just want to say I really appreciate what you've been doing over the last few years. I started watching your vids on nextlevelguitar about 3 years ago as a beginner guitar player. I started out watching the beginner vids and worked my way up. I am happy to say I am now playing gigs in a metal band thanks to you guys and have spent about $3000 on gear. THANK YOU TO DAVE TAUB AND ROCKONGOODPEOPLE!!!

Everyones gotta be louder than the next guy lol. I have a multiband compressor plug in but it takes a real pro to know what to do with it :(

I have absolutely no idea what the guy on the right is talking about. I guess I ought to reconsider recording at home.
